Mourning Doves |
It's been a lovely sunny day, with an afternoon high in the upper 60s.
I woke up feeling much better than I did, yesterday. The blood clot is still there and the leg is still painful, but, I think it is getting better.
I did two loads of laundry in the morning (although I haven't put them away, yet!)
In the early afternoon, neighbor S called and came over to see me and my daughter. She brought us some gata (Armenian cookies). She was happy that my daughter will stay another week, but, told me to call her if I needed anything. She is such a wonderful neighbor and friend.
Later in the afternoon, my daughter and I went for a very short walk, up and down the driveway and in front of the house. Just for 10 minutes or so as I didn't want my leg to hurt. We saw these two mourning doves sitting together on one of the overhead power lines.
Side By Side |
Love was in the air! There was a moment of fluttering wings and a high wire balancing act and we realized that the one with the ruffled feathers to left was the male!
After the Loving |
Then there was a moment of billing and cooing and daughter and I left them to continue their courtship and went back inside! LOL.
Daughter showed me how to log into the Hoopla website on my laptop, today, and I borrowed an e-book from the library! Once, a few years ago, she had shown me how to download the app on my old cell phone and I borrowed an e-book, but, I didn't like reading it on my small phone screen, especially since I had to enlarge the print in order to be able to read it. But, the laptop screen is big enough and I can read more than a couple of words at a time! I read a couple of chapters of the book I borrowed (non-fiction; The Six Wives of Henry VIII by Alison Weir); I think I will enjoy reading e-books, now.
I had a scrambled egg and some fried potatoes for brunch while daughter finished up some leftovers. For dinner, I made a stir-fry with slices of leftover pork roast (daughter cut the slices for me), onions, tomatoes, and broccoli and cooked a pot of rice. Daughter enjoyed the dinner.
Today, I am grateful for:
- Phone calls from my aunt and former neighbor T
- A visit from neighbor S
- A sunny day and a short walk with my daughter
- Feeling a little better
- Working appliances
Today's joyful activities included reading and crocheting.
I haven't made any plans for tomorrow. Since daughter is not flying back out, tomorrow, we will spend a relaxed day, being together.
How was your Saturday? What are your plans for Sunday?
I am so glad you were able to walk a little. I hope your leg continues to improve. We had lovely sunshine yesterday, it was beautiful. Grey and damp this morning, but maybe it will improve while we are out at church
ReplyDeleteThank you, Angela. My leg hurt, last night, but, it feels better, today, and I managed another short walk. I hope the weather improved for you.
DeleteWhat wonderful photos of the courting couple on the wire :) I'm glad you are feeling better and your leg is on the mend and so pleased your daughter will stay another week with you.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Eileen. My leg hurt in the night, but, it's better, today. I, too, am very glad that my daughter is staying for another week.
DeleteI hope you have recovered from your sore throat and cough and you and Tilly are doing well.
I still prefer reading a book in paper form, but I do occasionally read an ebook, usually from Hoopla. Part of the reason is I feel like I have enough screen time already and I don't need any more. However, ebooks are a great resource and very convenient, especially when the weather is bad or you aren't feeling well, so a trip to the library is not in the cards.
ReplyDeleteI, too, prefer reading actual books, but, my local branch library is closing for renovations, later this month, and they don't know when they will reopen and I'm not sure if I want to be going to the next branch as it is not located as conveniently close to me. So, being able to borrow and read e-books might be the next best thing. :)
DeleteI love springtime bird antics. You’re getting a front row seat to the mourning dove amour.
ReplyDeleteIt’s good that you got to walk; hope your leg keeps improving!
We dressed for St. Patrick’s Day today, but we’re not going out to celebrate. There were lots of people in green and shamrock regalia in NYC yesterday, especially around Times Square. We walked through on our way to the theater and it was fun to see so many tourists having a great time. The play was so very wonderful! It was the first performance, in a packed house, full of happy energy. I loved every minute.
I do most of my reading on an electronic device and husband reads on a Kindle. I wasn’t crazy about it at first, but now I find it convenient and easy to manage.
I got to talk to my daughters, sisters, and some cousins; there have been photos and messages back and forth, including cats sporting green ribbons for the occasion. ☘️
It was fun to see the mourning doves! :D I often find them walking about in my garden, eating grass seeds, etc.
DeleteMy leg hurt last night but, it is better, today, and I did another short walk.
I'm glad you enjoyed the play and enjoyed seeing all the people dressed up for St. Patrick's Day.
Sounds like you had a fun day, today, chatting with your family members and exchanging photos and messages. :)
I love your romantic dove photos! The mourning doves haven't yet returned to our area but with the milder weather they might be earlier this year. I did hear what sounded like a migrating bird of some kind the other day, but I'm not familiar with all the bird songs so I couldn't identify it, except to know that it wasn't a chickadee, blue jay, goldfinch or nuthatch!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Bushlady. I often see the mourning doves in the high telephone wires at the back or taking a stroll through the garden. There are some Eurasian Collared Doves, too, which look a lot like the morning doves, but, have a black half ring on their necks and square tipped tails.
DeleteI'm glad you're feeling a little better now and I hope that your leg continues to improve.
ReplyDeleteIt is so lovely that your daughter can stay on a little longer. Xx
Thank you, Jules. :)
DeleteI also think it is good news about the extended stay! Regardless of how the leg is getting on!
ReplyDeleteElla
Thank you, Ella. :)
DeleteThe blue skies are really beautiful. Glad you got out for a little walk.
ReplyDeleteIt's good that your daughter helped you with the library book. I enjoy getting kindle books from my library.
Thank you, Sharon; we are having more blue skies now that the rains have moved on. :)
DeleteThe doves are so cute. I wonder if that picture will be used in one of your upcoming challenges? It's a good one.
ReplyDeleteYeah for borrowing e-books. I have a kindle and it's nice to always have the option of downloading a book instantaneously from the library when none of my regular books are appealing to me.
I'm glad you are now able to read them more comfortably.
Thank you, Debra. Not sure if the birds will make it into one of the photo challenges. But, it turned out to be a cute photo, didn't it?
DeleteI am enjoying reading the e-book; the library branch I use will be closed for renovations, so, it'll be easier to download books and read online until I can go back to the library to borrow physical books. Of course, I could use a different branch library, but I like my neighborhood one. :)
