Friday

Boiled Mung Beans and Katta Sambol for Brunch

I remembered to put the mung beans to soak last night and boiled them, this morning.  Katta sambol is a mixture of onions, dried red chili flakes, pieces of Maldive fish (a type of tuna that has been dry cured), salt and lime juice.  I didn't make it this time, though, and used a bottled version I bought from the Sri Lankan store.

The house felt cold when I woke up, so, after I got dressed and said my morning prayers, I went outside to check on the garden and to walk for a few minutes.  It wasn't that warm outside, but, it was warmer than inside.  Later, I did a little tidying and housework, but, mostly, I read.

In the evening, M tended to the garden and we discussed buying a few more chrysanthemums to plant in the garden.  They'll provide a nice touch of color in the garden at this time of the year.

Later in the evening, I switched on the electric space heater for a few hours.  I also video chatted with my daughter.  She has fully recovered from her Covid booster side effects and is feeling well.  She will be self-isolating all of next week in preparation for coming down for Thanksgiving because she doesn't want to expose me to anything.

Today, I am grateful for:

- M's help with the garden
- The electric space heater and electricity
- A mostly sunny day
- Library books
- Being able to video chat with my daughter

Today's joyful activity was reading.

How was your Friday?  What are your plans for tomorrow/the weekend?

  1. I've never heard of mung beans here, they do look good.
It will be nice to have more chrysanthemums in your garden.

    1. If you've ever had Chinese food and eaten bean sprouts, they are sprouted mung beans. I don't much care for bean sprouts, but, I love boiled mung beans.
Yes, it would be nice to have more chrysanthemums in the garden. One year, I planted them all along the front driveway, but, they didn't do too well in the front.
Yes, I am looking forward to seeing her, again. :)

  4. It's kind of your daughter to go through the inconvenience of self isolation before visiting you. Does she work from home? I imagine it must be quite difficult if you don't work from home. Love FDxx

    1. Yes, it is very kind of her to do so. She is normally required to go into the office two days a week and works from home the other three days; however, she has arranged it with her supervisor to work from home all next week. :)

  5. Hi Bless! 👋🏻 Happy birthday to you! 🥳 Hope you have a wonderful day! I’m sure you must be so excited by the upcoming visit from your daughter. My #1 son was here for a week—it had been four years since we last saw each other—and it was so good to see him. Take care. 😀 Judy in Anaheim

    1. Hi Judy! Thank you for the birthday wishes!
Oh, wow, four years since you last saw your son! I'm sure you were happy to see him!
Yes, I'm looking forward to my daughter's visit and keeping my fingers crossed that nothing happens between now and next Saturday when she's due to come home! We both remember the year when she was to come home for Thanksgiving and the friend who was to give her a ride down got Covid and she couldn't come down.
Hope all is well with you and yours. :)
