I thought it was time to do an update on the watermelon trio! These photos were taken on Thursday evening:
Wawa Melon:

Wawa Melon is growing well. It is rather unassuming and not fussy. It is just getting on with what needs to be done, which is to grow.
Wonky Melon:

Wonky, unfortunately, is not doing well, at all! It has not grown and the prognosis isn't very good. Poor Wonky. The odds are against it! It will probably have to be surgically removed!
Walter Melon III:

Walter Melon III, who had a bit of an identity crisis, initially (Whata Melon? Wanda Melon?) seems to be doing well, too. It takes personal appearances very seriously and, as you can see, keeps its tendrils well curled and arranged just so. Apparently, Walter benefitted from the recent visit from the rooster next door, as I found he had acquired a new accessory!

Walter has now acquired a new nickname, Dandy Macaroni, as a result of his feather! LOL!

I think Dandy Macaroni is going to be the big winner in the end in the size department. Keep us posted.

DeleteWell, with a name like Walter, #lll was bound to be dignified, and obviously has aspirations for greatness now that he has added a feather to his neat tendrils. Poor Wonky! I think Wawa melon has taken note and has decided to keep a low profile.
ReplyDeleteI'm in gardening mode today. I've already been clearing around a small raspberry patch and I'm thinking of heading out to another area where there are unwanted saplings growing that I see from the deck and think, I must get out there and sort that!
Walter III is still sporting his feather, as of this morning. But, Wonky was laid to rest, yesterday. :( I think Wawa is getting ideas from Walter AKA Dandy! No feather for him, but, he now has a tendril wrapped around a sprig of dried leaves from the bottle brush tree! :D
