Not As Productive on Friday

Today was not nearly as productive as yesterday!  I didn't feel quite as energetic and decided to take it relatively easy.  I still did a few household tasks, spoke with neighbor E, cousin P, and friend R, and picked a few more zucchini with M (we picked 10 zucchini today).  I grated one zucchini and froze the  grated zucchini (3 cups) for later.  I need to make a little more room in the freezer for additional packets of grated zucchini - they will come in useful later in the year when there won't be as many fresh zucchini on hand!

We also picked four ripe tomatoes and a handful of green beans.  The green beans aren't doing as well as the zucchini, which is sad because I like green beans more than I like zucchini!  The tomatoes were used in tonight's dinner - sausages cooked with onions and the tomatoes; daughter had rice with it and I had a tortilla.

It looks like daughter might be able to stay down here for a few more weeks!  She received an email from her office that the renovations in the building they are moving into aren't completed yet and they will not be able to move in at the beginning of August as planned.  The new move in date has been postponed to September and daughter will stay with me until the end of August!  We are both very happy about it!  It gives us a little more time to be together and gives me a little extra time to recover before having to be on my own.

Today, I am grateful for:

- Another pain free day
- Daughter gets to extend her stay for a few more weeks!
- Phone calls and emails with family, friends, and neighbors
- M helping with the garden
- More zucchini!

Today's joyful activity was walking in the garden and harvesting more vegetables.

Plans for tomorrow include more relaxing and either some sewing or tidying my bedroom (or both!).

How was your Friday?  What are your plans for the weekend?

  1. That's good news that your daughter gets to stay a little longer. Office moves never happen when they're supposed to, so I'm not surprised.

I am eagerly awaiting our first ripe tomato. There are lots of green ones but it will be a while before they are ripe.

    1. Daughter and I are both happy that she gets to stay a little longer. Maybe we might still have time to do some of the things we couldn't do because I spent 6 weeks recovering from the sciatica pain!

  3. Oh, that's great news about your daughter's extended stay. I'm so pleased for both of you.

I'm having a quiet day, playing with my sewing machine. I'm experimenting with the embroidery stitches which I don't need for the skirt at all, but am having fun nonetheless 😊

    1. Thank you, Eileen; we are both glad that she gets to stay a bit longer. :)

Sounds like you are having fun with your sewing machine! You could always do a row of embroidery as a border for your skirt if you like. :)

  4. That is just lovely that your daughter will be with you for extra weeks! You do so well to listen to your body and know when to take things more slowly. There are always lighter activities and you were able to catch up with neighbour, family member and friend, which is important, too.
I hope you don't get excessive heat as per what I heard on the radio about California. Our summer is a mix, sometimes really hot, sometimes surprisingly cool although nothing we would complain about if it was February! Lots of grass cutting after the rain, DH does a great job.

Yes, I'm getting a little better at recognizing what my body is saying! I felt a little ache at the base of my spine, yesterday, when I went out to throw the trash, and I took that as an indication I should take it easy!

So far, our heat hasn't been that bad. We are still below 100F in my area and the fans (both ceiling and stand fans) are keeping us comfortable. I hope your temperatures remain at a level that is comfortable for you, especially when the grass needs cutting!

  5. It’s so nice that your daughter can stay longer.

What do you do with frozen grated zucchini? They are not too mushy when thawed?
The other day I bought zucchini to make mallung. 😃

The frozen grated zucchini can be used to make zucchini bread, to extend ground beef when making spaghetti sauce, etc. Yes, it gets mushy, but, you can drain off some of the extra liquid. I keep intending to make the mallung, but, haven't done so yet. Maybe tomorrow.

  7. That's wonderful news that your daughter gets to stay with you through the rest of the summer. I'm happy for you both. Did you feel any of the earthquake effects the other day? Denise

  8. You are best to take things easy, as you feel the need.
Later, I'm going to be making your mackerel curry with some ripe tomatoes I was given this week. X

    1. Yes, I am learning to listen to my body without pushing through the tiredness, etc. Glad to hear that the mackerel curry is a hit with you and your family. :) My daughter was saying I haven't made any, recently; might make some later this week! :)

  9. What good news that your daughter can stay longer. What a blessing her stay has been. I remember back around Christmas your posts about whether she would be able to come - and then thinking she was going to be able to come and then the disappointment when it was thought that she wasn't going to be able to travel safely and then - there she was!
And her she still is :)
Which I know has made you both happy.

    1. It was a bit of an emotional roller coaster, before Christmas, wasn't it? Who would have imagined she'd be able to extend her stay until almost the end of summer? Of course, this now means she will have to fly back (as opposed to getting a ride back with her friend who will drive to the Bay Area at the end of August), but, hopefully, it will be OK. She is now fully vaccinated and will wear a mask while traveling.
