Monday

Red Rose

Today, I went for a fasting blood test in the morning.  The drive there and back went well and the appointment went well, too, with only a 10 minute wait. My appointment was at 9:30 a.m. and I was home by 10:30 a.m.  I had a cup of tea after I came home and rested a bit.

In the afternoon, aunt C called and we had a long chat.  She was mostly venting about something that had happened and I provided a sympathetic ear.  There might have been three additional phone calls from her during the course of the afternoon and evening!  LOL.  I didn't mind.  To misquote John Milton, "They also serve who only stand and listen"!

Later in the evening, I took the trash bins to the curb for pick up in the morning, cleaned the litter box, did the dishes, checked the mail, and cooked a pot of rice.  I had planned to make curry puffs for tonight's dinner, and even went as far as taking some of the packages of frozen puff pastry out from the freezer.  Then, I saw all the leftovers in the fridge, changed my mind, and put the pastry back in the freezer (it hadn't had enough time to thaw, so it was fine to put back in the freezer).

Lunch had been salad followed by some fried rice I had made with leftover rice and sausage from the weekend.  Dinner was the freshly cooked rice with leftover beef curry, green beans, beets, zucchini salad, and zucchini chutney.  We finished the beef curry, green beans, and the zucchini salad, tonight.  I will make the curry puffs for tomorrow's dinner.

Later in the evening, I spoke with cousin N, friend A, and with friend R.

Today, I am grateful for:

- A safe drive to and from the blood test
- Health insurance
- Phone calls with family and friends
- Weekly trash collection services
- What I was able to accomplish

Today's joyful activity was chatting with family and friends.

Plans for tomorrow include some filing and maybe dusting the living room.

How was your Monday?  What are your plans for Tuesday?

  1. Good idea to use up the leftovers first. Sounds like another nice and productive day. Beautiful rose Bless. :)

    1. Yes, I thought the leftovers should be eaten first - otherwise, they tend to just sit in the fridge and then, we don't want to eat it! Thank you, Martha; one of the roses from the front garden. :)

  2. It's good you were able to get your blood test done in preparation for your appointment.

I've heard on the news about the drought in California and how bad it is right now.
I hope you get some rain soon.
We've been in a pretty wet period. I wish I could send you some.

    1. Thank you, Debra; I'll find out the blood test results on Friday. :)

I wish you could share some of your rain with me! It was cloudy this morning and the forecast said scattered morning showers in some areas, but, as far as I know, we didn't get any in my area.

  3. I have one friend who calls and all I do is listen. She doesn't have the best family life, so that's what she needs. In fact, we all need that from time to time. I'm sure Aunt C appreciated your sympathetic ear.

    1. I know Aunt C appreciated me being there to listen to her. In fact, she both apologized for calling me so often, yesterday, and thanked me for listening to her. She just wanted to talk to someone who would listen without being critical. I was glad to be that someone. :)

  4. It's always good when you can get a blood test visit over and done with reasonably quickly. Your main productivity for the day seems to have been to offer some comfort to your aunt who was obviously quite upset if she needed to call and vent more than once. I'm sure she appreciated your love and patience.

Some of our milkweed plants have deformed leaves at the top and I went round and cut off the bad parts, checking of course that I wasn't throwing out any Monarch caterpillars. I don't think they were impressed by the ugly leaves either as I didn't find any.

    1. It was good to have the blood test done without a lengthy wait. They do restrict the number of people waiting in the waiting room to six, these days, and everyone is required to wear a mask, but, the less time spent waiting in the company of strangers the better, these days, I think!

Aunt needed someone to vent to who would listen to her without invalidating her feelings or even just minimizing them. I was happy to have been able to provide her with a sympathetic ear; she was very appreciative. :)

You were probably wise to remove the deformed leaves on the milkweed plants. The caterpillars would want to feast on good leaves that are full of nutrients!

Hope your day is going well and you are enjoying some nice weather. :)

  5. I made my chicken puffs today ... loved them. I made two verions - a mildly spiced one for my sis who is a bit of a wimp with spicy food and some very spicy ones for me and BiL, but I will have to keep them all myself now. All will become clear when you read tomorrow's post.

Keeping my fingers crossed for favourable test results.

    1. Glad you are pleased with the chicken puffs. I hope the reason for keeping them all for yourself is a good one! They can be frozen, too, if you like.

Thank you; I'll find out the results on Friday.

  6. Every time you mention making curry puffs my mouth waters. I really do need to try to make some.
Years ago I was painting animals on the walls of the pre-school floor of our church. Each age group was easily identified by the animals on the wall, so you could pick up your child in the elephant, monkey, bear...etc. room. After spending a couple of days doing it I misquote Milton "She also serves who only sits and paints"

    1. I hope you will be able to make some curry puffs (not sure if they have keto puff pastry, but, you could use any type of pastry, actually) and you like them, Anne. :)

    1. Thank you, Denise. I am getting back to being able to do more. Today, I did a bit of dusting and drove to my aunt's house (daughter drove us back). I still haven't tried vacuuming, yet!
