More Hazy Days

Yesterday (Friday) was another hazy day with poor air quality and no sunshine.  I didn't feel motivated to do anything!  I practiced the piano, pulled out some yarn to knit a scarf, watched several documentaries about 9/11 (hard to believe it has been 19 years, already!), spoke with friend R and aunt C, and took it easy.  Later in the afternoon, M came to tend to the garden and I gave him the option of taking the day off due to the air quality, but, he said he was fine and mowed the back yard for me.

Today (Saturday) has been yet another hazy day with poor air quality and no sunshine.  Even though it is supposed to be warm outside, it has been cool inside the house, both yesterday and today.  A little too cool for my liking at not quite 70F when I woke up and warming up to below 75F in the afternoon.  I am back to wearing a sweater and socks!  I haven't been feeling very motivated to do anything, so, I've been taking it easy and relaxing.

These days, little baby possum has been visiting the back steps:

Baby Possum

Looking for Leftover Cat Food

It is apparently part of the clean up crew!  Eating up the small bits of kibble the cats have left!  I've seen the bigger possum, around too - maybe the mama possum.  But, the baby one is cuter!

On these smoky, hazy days, I am grateful for:

- My daughter and I are safe from the fires

- My daughter was able to order herself a second air purifier (she really needs it, up there)

- M was able to tend to the garden

- The yarn stash

- Asthma inhalers

My joyful activities have been video chatting with my daughter and knitting.

How are you doing?  What are your plans for Sunday?

  1. It’s raining hard here. I wish I could send it to CA where it’s needed the most.

I’m glad you and your daughter are safe from the fires. When I talked with Mom today, she asked me about the fires.

    Stay safe, Bless.

    1. We could do with some rain, Nil. Hope everyone at home (your Mom, sisters, etc.) are keeping well and you are, too. Take care.

    1. It is cute, isn't it?

Thank you, Jules; yes, we are keeping safe. :)

  3. It's only 18°C in the house as I write this so I may have to give in and switch the heating on for a while.

It's good that you chose to have a quiet day while you are experiencing poor air quality. I hope they can get the fires under control before too long so things can improve for you all.

    1. Brr, yes, that is cold, Eileen; I'd definitely turn the heating on!

Yes, my asthma was bothering me, yesterday, and I thought it was best not to exert myself, too much. But, more than anything else, the grey, hazy day left me feeling very unmotivated! Today is better; there is a little hazy sunshine!

  4. Until the air quality improves, I think it's smart to have relaxed days. Hopefully that improvement will come sooner rather than later.

    1. Thank you, Live and Learn; my asthma bothered me, yesterday, and I didn't want to do anything to aggravate it. But, more than anything else, I didn't feel very motivated to do anything, yesterday. Today, is better. The smoke has abated, air quality is fair, and there is some hazy sunshine. :)

  5. Who would feel like doing much in those conditions. Super stormy here in SW Florida, we are getting all the worst of the storms from Tropical Storm Sally. I'm sure it will be a lazy day here for sure. Your little baby visitor is cute :)

  6. Yes, it has been hazy, hasn't it. I think you were wise to stay indoors and watch documentaries. The air quality seems better to me today. I may take Lula for a short walk, and wear my mask.

    1. Thank you, Stephenie. It was a little better, today, wasn't it? I went out to throw the trash and the tops of my trash bins had a powdery later of ash on them! Not as bad as in previous years when there were fires in the Verdugo Mountains, but, I was surprised to see any ash!

  7. I'm not surprised you haven't been feeling very ambitious. The air quality is scary and we hear it is even a problem in British Columbia now.
Your baby possum must have come to cheer you up!

We get a lot of rain on and off, sometimes heavy downpours and then it will be quite pleasant outdoors. I just wish some of that rain might come your way to help put out the wildfires.

    1. The air quality has been very bad these past couple of days (although, a little better, today) and I haven't felt quite myself. I even went to bed before 12:30 a.m., last night and slept for 9 hours! Only woke up because Dancer was demanding his breakfast!

A nice shower of rain would help, I think, but, there is no rain in the forecast and the temperatures are supposed to go back up into the triple digits, by midweek.
