Organizing the Freezer on Friday

Today was a fairly productive day, at least until I had an asthma flare-up in the evening.

In the morning, I did two loads of laundry, checked on my neighbor T, and chatted with cousin P.  The radiology center where I had the mammogram on Wednesday called to ask where the previous mammogram was done to request a copy for comparison, so, at least, they are working on it.

In the afternoon, I did a freezer inventory and organized the freezer a little better.  This is the freezer that comes with my side-by-side fridge/freezer (I don't have a second freezer).  I had organized it, earlier, but, the last grocery pick up I did messed it up a bit as I shoved things in where they would fit!  As a result, things became a bit disorganized.  Today, I took everything out, shelf by shelf, grouped things so that they were not all over the place and wrote down what I have.

Then, I portioned out the trays of chicken breast halves that I bought, yesterday, and froze most of them, in packages of 2 breast halves per package.  I kept one piece to cook over the weekend - cut it up into small pieces and left it to marinate in the fridge.  I plan to make a chicken stir-fry with it.

After that, I cut up the chub of ground beef.  I had been wanting hamburgers, recently, so, I decided to form all three pounds of ground beef into hamburger patties.  I made 16 patties and froze 12 of them in packages of two each.  I cooked the last four and had two for dinner, tonight; the remaining two are in the fridge for another meal.

By that time, it was 5:00 p.m. and M was here to tend to the garden.  I didn't have a specific task for him, so he watered and tidied the garden for me.

My asthma flare up started around that time; I was talking on the phone with my daughter and realized that I was wheezing.  I took two puffs of my rescue inhaler and turned on the air purifier.

I've been taking it easy, since then.  I practiced the piano for a little, spoke on the phone with friend R, and watched news.  I needed to take two more puffs of the rescue inhaler, a few minutes ago; I am waiting for it to take effect.

Today, I am grateful for:

- Rescue inhalers and air purifiers

- M tending to the garden for me

- Freezers and a freezer inventory

- Working appliances and the electricity to run them

- Chatting on the phone with family and friends

Today's joyful activity was organizing the freezer!  Maybe not everyone's idea of a joyful activity, but, it brought me much joy to see what I had in there and know that it is somewhat organized!

Plans for tomorrow include cooking the chicken stir-fry.

How was your Friday and what are your plans for the weekend?

  1. There is something so satifying about when we tidy up something and establish some order. It's saturday here in New Zealand, and I spent the day with two of my adult daughters, an adult grand daughter, baby grandchild and four year old great grandchild, at an animal farm and cafe. A lovely day.

    1. Yes, I find myself wanting more order in my home environment, especially when things in the outside world appear to be out of my control. :) It sounds like you had a lovely day, I'm sure the four year old loved seeing all the farm animals.

  2. I hope today is a day of easy breathing for you. With all of the smoke, I'm not surprised you were having problems. I have friends in Oregon, and while they were not in an evacuation zone, left seeking cleaner air because of the wife's asthma. They have been very careful, much like you, and had rarely left their house, but the smoke drove them out.

I recently organized our freezer, also, and I too found it quite satisfying.

    1. Thank you, Live and Learn. I hope your friends in Oregon found a place with better air quality and their home remains safe to return to.

It feels good to have the freezer organized. :)

    1. Thank you, Eileen. The air quality is supposed to be better, today, but, I am taking it easy. Getting the freezer organized and inventoried was something I had been wanting to do for a few weeks now and I am so happy I was able to get it done, yesterday. :)

  5. Sorry to hear about your asthma flare up. I hope you are much better today.
My freezer is partly organized but could be improved. I was ferreting around in there on Friday, looking for a large bag of frozen fries, and thinking to my horror that we must have used them up. Then I found them upstairs in the fridge freezer where I had brought them up one day and started to use them. So "Fish and Chips" was our meal as planned.

    1. I am feeling much better, now, thank you, Bushlady. I'm glad you found your bag of frozen fries! Fish and chips sounds wonderful. Having an organized freezer is important - I opened a new bag of frozen edamame, the other day, not realizing that that there was another bag that was already open! So, now, I have two opened bags of edamame! LOL. (I simply boil them and eat them as a snack, from time to time.)
