Wednesday

Another Fabric Covered Box

Another relatively cool day, today.  Wednesdays are when I usually schedule the vacuuming, but, since I vacuumed on Sunday (and the family room rug, again, on Monday, too), I decided to skip vacuuming, today.  I spent the morning replying to blog comments, reading and commenting on a few blogs, and practicing the piano.

My cousin's daughter called me, later in the morning, saying she was at the grocery store and did I need anything?  I hadn't done any grocery shopping in August, other than the loaf of bread I asked my neighbor to pick up for me.  I was planning on putting in an order for groceries, but, hadn't done so, yet.  So, I gratefully accepted my cousin's daughter's offer and asked her to pick up half a gallon of milk and some grapes for me.  My cousin brought them over and I gave her the money for the milk and grapes.  I will probably put in the order for groceries, next week.

In the afternoon, I cleaned and reorganized the plastic shelving unit in the bathroom.  I line these shelves with wax paper, which makes it easy to clean; if anything spills or drips, it goes on the wax paper, and when it comes time to clean, all I have to do is toss the old wax paper, wipe the shelves with a damp microfiber cloth, and then, put new wax paper down.  The shelves are about 8 inches deep and fit into that space without jutting out into the doorway.  I have been using these shelves to store the disinfectant sprays and flea prevention sprays that I stocked up on and they have been looking a bit cluttered.  So, today, I took two more cardboard boxes and covered them with fabric, using some upholstery fabric remnants that I had been given by a friend.  Since this fabric is thicker, I hot glued it to the box.  I covered two boxes - one holds the disinfectant sprays, the other holds the flea sprays and a container of insect spray.  Maybe boxes with higher sides might have been better, but, these work well enough for me.

The Boxes in Use

The plastic shoe box contains Dancer's brush, flea combs, flea medications (he received this month's application of the flea preventive medication, today, and he wasn't very happy with me about that!), etc.  The pink bowl on top of the shoe box is what I use to add sand to his litter box.  The sand is stored in two covered buckets, one of which is just visible in the bottom right of the second picture.  Cleaning and tidying these shelves have been something I had been wanting to do for several weeks, now, so I am happy I got it done, today.

Later, I watched news and then, walked outside, in the drive way for 15 minutes.   Afterwards, I had dinner and chatted with friend R who called.

Today, I am grateful for:

- Cousin's daughter offering to pick up some groceries for me

- Chatting with cousin, for a few minutes, when she brought over the groceries

- Fabric remnants in the stash and finding a good use for them

- Hot glue guns and glue sticks

- Extension cords

Today's intentional joyful activity was a craft project - the fabric covered boxes.  A very frugal craft project because the boxes and the fabric were free and the boxes serve a useful purpose, as well.

Wednesday's To Do List:
- Paperwork/filing - DID SOME
- Do one decluttering/organizing task - DONE (bathroom shelves; decluttered 2 items)
- Practice the piano - DONE

Thursday's To Do List:
- Clean the kitchen
- Water the garden, front and back
- More paperwork
- Practice the piano

How was your Wednesday?  What are your plans for Thursday?

  1. I'm taking a trip to Italy today - online Italian conversation. That's followed by learning all about Medieval graffiti in Winchester Cathedral - an online lecture. This evening will be spent with friends - an online Zoom meet. How did we ever manage without computers?

    1. Sounds like you've planned a fun-filled day! I'm afraid the only things I know about Winchester Cathedral are that Jane Austen was buried there and the song by that name! :D

  2. The boxes look great. I don't have any spare fabric or I'd be tempted to make some myself.
My plans for today include work and cleaning the bathrooms. Neither are very exciting :)

    1. Oh, I wish I could give you some of my spare fabric! :D

Your plans for the day might not be very exciting, but, they are both very necessary, aren't they? I hope your day goes well and, hopefully, you've planned for a small treat for yourself after the day's chores are done. :)

  3. Your house must be so neat with shelf after shelf being organized and spiffed up. The fabric boxes are a very good idea and such a good use of what you have on hand.

    1. It's getting there, Live and Learn! :) Ideally, these shelves should be gone through and reorganized every 6 months or so, if not more frequently, but, this year, my spring cleaning sort of fizzled out almost before it started! I've been admiring fabric covered boxes for some time, now, but, didn't want to pay money to buy them, unless I could get them for $1 at the dollar store. My homemade covered boxes work fine for the purpose. :)

    1. Thank you, Martha. I'm happy to use up some of my stash of fabric and I seem to have acquired an abundance of boxes, lately, as things have been delivered in them! My daughter glued some of her boxes and made a shelf unit to store her video games collection! She covered them with paper as she didn't have fabric. :)

  7. Always good to catch up on a project that you have been wanting to get at!
I made some veggie noodle soup for lunch and made chili in the crockpot for supper. I walked to the mailboxes and it was pleasant and sunny. Guess what, this evening we suddenly had another good heavy downpour! We are not wanting for rain at all.

    1. It felt good to get the bathroom shelf unit cleaned out.

It sounds like you've got rain to spare! Too bad you can't send some of it my way! :) I watered portions of the back yard this morning and watered the front garden, in the evening.

  8. Nice craft project! Very useful! In here it is finally cooler for some week now, but too much rain, so we can't go out as much. Have a lovely weekend☺

  9. You've done a lot of shelf work recently. It's nice to clean things up and organize areas isn't it. Instant gratification with those sorts of tasks.
Your area looks nice and organized.
Good idea on the waxed paper usage.

    1. Yes, finally in the mood to get some cleaning and organizing done! It doesn't happen often enough, so, need to take full advantage of it while it lasts! :D
