Hazy Days

Today, there was a grey haze in my area from the nearby fires, accompanied by poor air quality.  The haze blocked much of the sunlight and the temperature was cool.

I spent a quiet day, today.  I didn't feel very energetic and the poor air quality caused my asthma to act up.  I practiced the piano, did a little paperwork, did the dishes and wiped down the kitchen counters, called the pharmacy in response to a text that my medications were ready for pick up and requested they be mailed to me, watered the fruit trees in the backyard in the morning (picked some oranges, too) and watered the front in the early evening.  You can see how the recent heat impacted the plants:

But, the plants will recover.  It's nothing compared to the damage caused by the wildfires that are currently raging.

In the afternoon, my former colleague called me and we spoke about the medical insurance paperwork.  He assured me that I still had plenty of time and asked me to update him once I've spoken with Social Security in October.  I felt much better after I had spoken with him.

Today, I am grateful for:

- My daughter and I are safe from the fires

- Asthma medications

- Water for the garden

- Freshly picked oranges from my tree

- My former colleague reassuring me about the insurance paperwork

Today's joyful activity was speaking with my former colleague and being reassured that my paperwork will be timely.

Plans for tomorrow include some house cleaning, provided the air quality is good.  If not, I will take it easy, again.

How was your day?  What are your plans for tomorrow?

  1. Sorry to hear that your asthma is not so good. When will your air purifier arrive?

I'm glad your friend was able to set your mind at rest about the insurance renewal. How often do you have to do this? It would drive me crazy!

    1. My air purifier should arrive by next Friday. I actually ordered two!

Yes, it's wonderful that my friend was able to reassure me. Hopefully, this is just a one time thing! Insurance is renewed annually and we have the option of keeping our current plan or making changes during the annual open enrollment period (usually in October, with the plan going into effect in January of the following year). But, what I am in the process of doing now is applying for a government health care plan that I am eligible for when I turn 65.

  3. I keep reading about the fires and say silent prayers for all the areas affected. My son who lives in Oregon is packing up his family and heading for the coast this weekend. The air quality is very poor and their eyes are hurting, so they are seeking cleared air.

    1. Anne, I hope your son and his family are safe from the fires. May they have a safe drive to the coast and a safe stay there. I don't think we've had fires like this, before!

  4. I shall be glad when I hear that you have your air purifier! What a difficult time to be living in. But you find much to be thankful for.
After a dull, cool day yesterday, we had a lovely sunny day today with temperature around 70°F. I had another visit with my friend beside the river, and this evening we even managed to eat supper on the deck, while the sun was still high enough to keep us warm.

    1. The air purifier is supposed to arrive, next week. Yes, these are challenging times, aren't they? But, I do have much for which to be grateful.

I am glad you had a sunny day. Sounds like perfect fall weather. It was 70F inside my family room when I checked this morning and I felt cold enough for sweaters and cardigans! LOL. It warmed up, a little, later, but, I felt cold most of the day!

  5. What a worry about the fires. Stay safe. When the bush fires were raging in Australia last year, the sky turned orange then yellow one day in New Zealand. The birds stopped singing. It was eerie. Everyone quietly came out into the streets, and just stared at the sky. As your daughter said, acopalyctic sky.

    1. Yes, the fires are really bad in some areas. It's another hazy, smoky day, here, with bad air quality.

Make sure you keep your medications to hand. I worry about your asthma, especially in the current circumstances. X

    1. Thank you, Jules; yes, it is a relief to have that reassurance about the paperwork!

I keep my medications in my purse. My asthma was pretty bad, yesterday, but, it is better, today. Thank you for being concerned, Jules.

  8. My geraniums look like that, too, Bless. I pulled off several of the leaves this morning. I will give the front garden a good watering tonight. I hope your asthma is better.

    1. I imagine many of us have scorched plants after our recent heatwave. I hope your fruit trees are doing OK, though. Deep watering will help, too. My asthma is better, today, thank you. Hope you are safe from the fires, Stephenie.
