It rained on and off most of the day on Tuesday. There were some flooding and mudslides in some parts and several people died in the mudslides, according to the news. So, although we really needed the rain, it wasn't a good rain. The morning commute wasn't too bad, but the evening commute was bumper to bumper and two of the lanes on the freeway I take to come home were closed due to flooding, but I got off at an earlier exit and drove on the surface streets, which were OK. Only one intersection was flooded on my way home, but it wasn't too bad.
I didn't feel like doing much after I came home, so I took it easy. I had a cup of coffee, replied to blog comments, read and commented on some other blogs, wrote to one of my long-time friends (we've been friends since elementary school), exchanged emails with another friend, called Aunt T to wish her for her birthday (she had gone out to dinner with her family, so I left a message with one of her daughters as aunt's voice mail was full!), and spoke with Aunt C who called to check on me (she was worried because I had driven to work and back in the rain! In fact, her daughter, my cousin N, texted me in the morning to tell me to be careful! I am blessed to have such caring family.) In between, I listened to songs and watched some videos online. I also decluttered 3 more books.
Today, I am grateful for:
- Caring family who check on me
- Safe commutes to work and back
- No rain caused damage in my immediate neighborhood
- Keeping in touch with family and friends
- A working heater/thermostat!

How was your Tuesday?
We had a rainy Tuesday, here, too. Although it sounds as though your weather was much worse -- it seems like California can't get a break! Yesterday was my first day back at my internship; it was great but I'm definitely going to be tired as I adjust to the schedule again!
ReplyDeleteThe areas that suffered recent brush fires experienced too much rain at once for the ground to absorb and, without any vegetation to hold the soil in place, there were mudslides which caused deaths and a lot of damage.
DeleteGlad your first day back at the internship went well; Hope you won't be too tired during the adjustment period. I found it hard to get up early enough this morning and was very tempted to stay home!
I was thinking of you this morning Bless, and hoping you were OK. It's good that your family are keeping check on you. X
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jules. I am fine, but I do appreciate people checking on me. :)
DeleteGlad you made it home safely. It must have taken a long time with all of the traffic problems. No wonder you were tired, but you still did well with your To Do list.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Live and Learn. I am able to catch a glimpse of the freeway, which is below me, as I approach the on-ramp, and there is also one of those lit up freeway signs which tells me how long it will take to reach certain points under current speeds. When I see all the red brake lights and the estimated time, I know to settle in for a long drive!
DeleteOn a good day, when traffic is moving, it takes me 45 minutes to an hour or so to drive the less than 20 miles home. When it is raining and the freeway is backed up, it takes about 1 1/2 hours. I listen to the news or, sometimes, music, on the drive home and try to relax, but, when it is raining, I find myself needing being more alert and, I guess, tense.
Today, it wasn't raining, but the freeway was still congested (one of the other freeways was closed, so, I assume more people were using this freeway, instead). But they were saying on the news that on one of the other freeways, the one I used to take when daughter was going to UCLA, it was taking 1 hour to drive the 6 miles from one point to another! Even the traffic announcers sounded taken aback by those speeds!
Glad to hear you had a safe trip home after work. Driving in heavy dense traffic because of bad weather conditions is very taxing, so it is no wonder you didn't want to do anything when you got home. You were wise to just take it easy and stay in touch with friends, family and the "news".
ReplyDeleteThank you, Susan. They say one should drive slower in the rain and to leave plenty of room between your car and the one in front, and I try to do that, but then, people take that as an invitation to cut in front of you without signaling! I like driving, but I am beginning to not like driving in the rain!
DeleteI never feel like doing anything when it's raining, it saps all my energy. I'm glad you were safe driving home. What a tragedy, all the people whose house survived the fires now might be losing them due to the landslides. And the poor people who died... Your house is in a valley, right? There's no chance of landslides near you, I hope.
ReplyDeleteI don't mind the rain, but it was cold when I got home, yesterday, so I had to sit by the heater to drink my coffee and feel warm, again, and then, I guess I relaxed too much, because I didn't feel like doing anything more strenuous than reading blogs, commenting, and writing to friends!
DeleteIt is very sad to hear about the lives lost and the homes damaged. Yes, my house is in the valley; no chance of a mudslide and, even if the intersections flood, very little chance of floods, too.
Just reading about the rain and mudslides in our newspapers so popped over to see if you were ok. Glad to read you are home and safe. xx
ReplyDeleteAw, thank you, Suzanne. Yes, I am OK. My house is not near any of the hillside areas that are subject to brush fires and mudslides. As you can imagine, I am very thankful for that!
DeleteIt has been sad to hear on the news of those who have lost their lives in the mudslides. California has certainly had some problems with fire and now rain on the denuded hillsides.
ReplyDeleteI was really tired Tuesday so I didn't go out and I even took a nap before lunch. I don't know why I was tired but I thought I had slept well. Then last night I was twitchy and couldn't get to sleep so I got up and made a warm drink and sat reading an old journal that I found in a drawer. It was interesting to read of things and thoughts from 20 years ago! Felt well enough this morning to go out for some groceries, but I did take a nap before making supper.
The weather was pleasant today and our baby squirrel was enjoying coming for peanuts. He has a good snow tunnel system set up!
It's very sad, Bushlady. It's what people were worried would happen, of course, when we had all those fires.
DeleteI am sorry you were feeling so tired. Could it be the weather, I wonder? I hope you were able to get enough rest. I have a few journals from 20+ years ago, myself. I should probably destroy them!
Aw, you have a baby squirrel! How cute! Give him an extra peanut from me!
It's so good to have people care enough to check on you! It was drizzly here today too. A change as the temp is finally above freezing - but only for a couple of days. It's back to snow on Friday.
ReplyDeleteYes, it is good to have people who care enough to check on you! Enjoy your warmer temperatures for as long as they last! Then, bundle up when it snows again!
DeleteI am so thankful that you have friends and family that do check in on you. I was worried about you with the flooding in your area and am so glad to see that you are ok.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Debbie; yes, I am fine, the floods didn't have any impact where I live (other than the flooded intersections and roads further up). It's a blessing to have people who care enough to check on me; I try to do the same for my friend who lives alone, herself. :)
