Monday: Update on Pharmacy Battle and Bargains!

Monday morning, I received a text from the pharmacy, stating that my prescription was ready to be picked up!  Thank goodness!  A prayer answered!    I went in the early afternoon to pick it up.  The staff on duty today weren't the same staff who were there yesterday, so they didn't know that it had been unavailable, yesterday.  Even when I informed them about yesterday's drama and asked about it, all they could say was that the prescription had been filled this morning.  I am assuming the clinic was open today, even though it is a holiday, and they had seen the request the pharmacy sent, yesterday, and called it in?  Or, if it had been a computer glitch or a pharmacy error, they quietly corrected it!  It doesn't matter.  All that matters is I have another 3 months supply of medicine!  I will bring it up with my oncologist when I go to see her, next and ask how such a thing can be avoided in the future.

While I was at the pharmacy, I noticed that they had some holiday gift wrap and bows on clearance.    I hadn't planned on buying holiday gift wrap, but I didn't have any at home and I had used up my stash of holiday gift bags, so I decided that some gift wrap and bows would be a good idea.

Dancer Inspecting the Gift Wrap

Especially since they were on sale for 90% off!  The rolls of gift wrap (130 sq. ft.) was originally priced at $7.99 each.  The bag of 24 bows was originally priced at $5.99.

"Ooh!  Shiny!"

I wouldn't pay $7.99 for a roll of wrapping paper, but, I would pay $.79.  Same for the bows.

My total would have come to $2.17.  But, I had a $2 off coupon!  So, the total came to $.17 plus $.02 tax for a grand total of $.19!

Gift Wrap Receipt

90% off sales are my favorite!

The receipt tells me I saved $21.80, but, not really, because I wouldn't have bought them when they were full price!  The way I look at it, I saved $2 because of the coupon.

After I came home, I relaxed and typed up my 2017 grocery spending recap.  I also took the kitchen trash out and took the big trash bin and yard waste bin to the curb for pick up, tomorrow.  Later, I did a load of laundry, which is hanging up to dry, overnight.  My friend R called and we chatted for awhile and I exchanged emails with another friend.  Still later, I video chatted with daughter.  Need to clean the litter box before going to bed.

Today's breakfast was a banana; lunch was leftover Thai food; dinner was pasta with the last of the shrimp curry, and I am having a tangerine, now.

Today, I am grateful for:
- My medication refill was approved and refilled by the pharmacy, which I feel was an answered prayer
- A bargain on gift wrap and bows
- A day off from work
- Phone calls and emails from friends
- Chatting with my daughter

Tuesday's To Do List:
- Doctor's appointment
- Bring the trash cans in
- Put gas to the car
- Put away the laundry
- Put away the dried dishes
- Do more dishes
- Clear the kitchen counters
- Cook/meal plan for the week's lunches and dinners

How was your Monday?  Did you shop at any after Christmas sales for this year's gift wrapping, etc.?  Did you find good bargains?

  1. 90% off is a great sale for something you need. I have used a couple of them in the past and we're good with wrapping paper for a while. Glad your prescription got filled without further drama.

    1. Thanks, Live and Learn. I need to make sure I call for refills well before I come to the end and before a long weekend! These refills are supposed to be in their automatic refill program, but, that doesn't always work, it seems! :)

90% off is the best! One year, I found holiday themed mugs on sale for 90% off - each mug was sale priced at $.10! I think I bought 20 mugs and half the people on my gift list that year received mugs with chocolates in them!

    1. Yes, it is, isn't it? Of course, it does mean I have to store the gift wrap for a year, but that's OK.

Yes, I'm very happy to have the prescription in hand! :)

  3. Well done on your 90% off Christmas wrapping paper. I can never imagine who actually pays the full price.

    1. Thanks, Sandy. Probably someone in a rush who needs to wrap a gift in a hurry? Or several of my colleagues who would never think to look for gift wrap on sale. :)

  4. So I'm considering using bags like you said and now you're going to wrap presents?! LOL. Maybe Dancer will help you wrap. 90% off was really too good to pass up, especially since you had used up your stock of bags.

I agree with you when looking at "how much your saved" on the receipt. I usually only care about the coupon value because, like you said, I wouldn't have bought the item if it were full price. Kohl's is the worst with that. Oh my. Who ever pays full price for anything at Kohl's has a fool for a budget keeper :)

I considered buying pretty gift tags on clearance at Aldi a couple of weeks ago but I left them because even at $1.24, I prefer the sticker type that I don't have to fiddle with come wrapping time. Wait until you see how I "wrapped" Middle Son's birthday present for tomorrow. I hate wrapping. I think I may have mentioned it once or twice or maybe even many times :)

    1. He, he, the first thing I thought when I took my purchases back to the car was, "Oops, I told Nathalie to use bags and she's going to say something!" :D But I couldn't have bought enough bags for that price! One year, I was lucky and I found bags selling for $.10 each at KMart - I think I bought 25 bags that year! They've all been used up, though. I think I have just 3 bags left in the stash - from the last 3 gifts I received. I'll reuse them and wrap the rest of the gifts. :)

I hate to pay full price for anything, but you've reminded me that I've a gift card to Kohl's. Should go shopping there, one of these days.

Looking forward to seeing how you wrapped Middle Son's gift, Nathalie. I'm sure you did a good job with it! :)

Oh, you know Dancer will help with the wrapping! He's pretty good at shredding curling ribbon, too!

  5. Once again the pharmacy drama gets under control! I think they must be overworked or something.
I haven't bought any gift wrap but DH was thrilled when I came home one day with a large box of Brandy Beans for only $3 (I should have bought 2, not that we need to eat these things). I also got a box of fancy cookies for half price and later found Christmas candy-cane-chip icecream sandwiches for $1.99. I only bought one of the two packets, thinking I wouldn't be greedy in case someone with children rather than a sweet-tooth DH wanted to buy the other. But after a few days I found the remaining package still unsold and snapped it up!

    1. Bushlady, they are definitely overworked! I've been to that pharmacy so many times and every time, the pharmacists are busy filling orders, serving customers, answering the phone which is constantly ringing. They do their best, I know, except, when things go wrong, it becomes a bit frustrating for everyone!

Great buys on the after Christmas goodies! They'll help to extend the festive season a bit longer. :)

  6. I love 90% off sales too.. I didn't buy Christmas paper this year. I still have lots from previous sales.
So proud you got your meds filled.. I really hate when the pharmacy does this.. Not sure why , it happens??? But happens here too..

    1. I think the pharmacies are all over worked! One of my cousins' daughter is a pharmacist and I know she gets run off her feet at times.
