No old man snoring, though! At least, not in my house! LOL.
Woke up this morning to see the ground all wet. It must have rained in the early morning, but it was only drizzling a little bit when I left for work. The freeway was very congested, though.
It was still barely drizzling when I went to the post office during my lunch break to mail something my daughter had made to her friend, since we couldn't do it on Saturday.
When I drove home in the evening, it was raining. It took me 1 1/2 hours to get home, in bumper to bumper traffic. Some of the intersections along the main road to my house were flooded, but I could drive through them. Further ahead, the road was completely under water and was closed. That section of the road, under a freeway overpass, always floods. We are supposed to get the heaviest rainfall early tomorrow morning, around 4:00 a.m. People in the burn areas where we had the brush fires, earlier, are being told to either evacuate or to be ready to evacuate due to potential mud slides.
I dressed warmly to go to the office, today. I wore a pair of fleece lined leggings under my pair of pants to keep my legs warm, a short sleeved blouse, a turtle necked sweater I had bought when I went shopping with daughter, a cardigan over that, and a jacket! When I got to the office, I felt warm enough to remove the jacket and the cardigan. But, in the afternoon, I got cold again and even the cardigan wasn't enough!
Daughter and I had both bought coordinating sweaters when we shopped together - I bought the black with white stripes sweater and she bought a white with thinner black stripes sweater; when I mentioned to her that I wore my black and white striped sweater today, she said she wore her white and black striped sweater to work today! LOL! I told her that great minds think alike!
Once I got home, I took the trash cans to the curb, emptied the waste baskets and kitchen trash, etc. Then, I had a cup of coffee while I opened the windows to air out the house, spoke with my daughter on the phone (she said it was pouring with rain, up there, too), and watched some news. My cousin N (Aunt C's daughter) texted me and I texted her back and my friend R called to check on me - apparently, she was without electricity for awhile in her apartment, due to the rain. She called to see if I had power and I did. Hopefully, I won't lose electricity in the night! If I do, however, I have a battery operated alarm clock as well as the radio clock
Today, I didn't go for a walk due to the rain. Instead, I climbed 3 flights of stairs at the office - each flight had 24 steps, so I felt I got a bit of a cardio workout! Maybe, tomorrow, I can try to do that twice a day, instead of just once.
I took a banana and the last cream swirl bun to the office for my breakfast, but I wasn't hungry for breakfast. Lunch was pasta and shrimp curry, with a tangerine for afternoon snack. I also drank some orange juice. Dinner was going to be beef vegetable soup, but I had a bagel with cream cheese, instead. This is why I don't make a proper menu plan! I just list options and keep it at that. Maybe I'll take some soup for my lunch, tomorrow. If not, I can take a sandwich. Or, perhaps, both.
Today, I am grateful for:

- A safe drive in the rain to the office and back

How was your Monday? Is it raining where you are? Or is it snowing? Hope you are keeping safe, no matter what the weather is like.
You had a very successful day with everything you accomplished. I think I would be pleased to get all of that done in a day and I don't work outside of the home. I don't know how you have the energy.
ReplyDeleteThe rain must be a blessing and a worry at the same time. I hope there are no mudslides for those poor people who have already endured so much with the fires.
Thank you, Susan. Often, it is a challenge to get everything done after I come home, when I don't want to clean house after spending the day at the office, but then, I don't want to do it all on the weekends, either!
DeleteYes, the rain is both a blessing and a worry. There have been some mudslides, already, and several people killed. Several roads had to be closed due to the flooding, too, including some lanes on the freeway I take to drive home from work, just north of my usual exit - I exited before that, however, and drove on the surface roads, today.
No rain in Central Florida, just clouds although today I see more blue sky than I did yesterday. Our temps will be in the low 70s again and I'm loving it. It's lovely outside but everything is burnt because of the deep freeze we had last week. Can't wait for some rain so the landscape everywhere can start greening up again! I just checked my weather app and actually it's supposed to be raining at 10 a.m. and we should have thunderstorms this afternoon and also tomorrow so we'll see.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad your garden got some rain but I worry about you driving through flooded intersections. Be very careful, you don't want to get stranded and then also damage your car. Poor people who know might have to evacuate and lose their homes if there are mud slides. It never ends, does it?
Great job on getting exercise even though you couldn't take a walk! Good thinking and climbing stairs is an excellent cardio exercise.
I hope you don't lose power. Do you have a camping stove on which to cook if you do? Batteries in your flashlight?
Take care!
Nathalie, I'm glad it is warming up for you. Hope you get some rain to help your garden grow, again.
DeleteYes, I hate driving through flooded intersections. That's when I wish I was driving a truck or something higher off the ground than my car!
I do have batteries in my flashlights, but this is a good reminder to check them and replace the batteries, if needed (I do keep some extras on hand). No camp stove, but I should be able to light my gas stove with a match. If not, it will have to be the barbecue grill (I have one of those old-fashioned ones that require charcoal and I keep a bag of briquettes on hand at all times) or I could always make a camp fire with 3 bricks, or even stones, on which to balance a cooking pot and firewood or charcoal to burn. When I was growing up, many homes had these types of brick fire places (we didn't call them camp fires, then) in which to cook, before kerosene stoves came into use. :) Now, I hear that propane stoves are more popular than the kerosene stoves as propane is cheaper than kerosene.
Glad the rain did not keep you from doing what you had to do safely. It has been pretty cold lately but is warming and supposed to be in the mid 60's tomorrow. Crazy weather makes my joints ache. Oh well!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Anne. Glad it is warming up for you. I suppose it is a good guess to say that you are pleased with the outcome of the game, last night? :)
DeleteI hope the roads are OK for you tomorrow Bless. You really do have the extremes of weather. The next time I feel like moaning about our weather this side of the pond I will think again. X
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jules, the roads I take to work and back were fine, today, except for 2 lanes of the freeway being closed due to flooding, a bit beyond my usual exit (I took an earlier exit to avoid all the traffic build up). But some other roads had to be closed due to the mudslides and flooding, and I heard on the news that some people lost their lives due to the mudslides, further up north. Yes, it is either a drought and fire or so much rain at once that it floods and there are mudslides! It's a bit like that song, "It never rains in Southern California, but girl, don't they warn you, it pours, man it pours"!
DeleteWe had a 2 1/2 hour power outage on Friday and a family not far from us were starting their generator and somehow this resulted in a fire which destroyed their whole house and outbuildings. Fortunately they got out safely with their dogs. It was in the minus 20s (celsius) so the fire took off fast.
ReplyDeleteThen we lost our phone and internet for most of the weekend so we had a nice break from the web! It was strange at first as we depend on the internet for Netflix and other things.
Yesterday, Monday, while you were having all that rain, we had steady snow. The temperature is up and today the sun is out. I just hope it won't get really mild and then refreeze into ice everywhere. Wouldn't it be nice if we could order the weather for our own convenience?
Bushlady, so sorry to hear about your neighbor's fire! The neighbor next door to me, who had the garage fire around Marhch or April, last year, use a generator each evening as they apparently do not have electricity restored to their house after the fire, yet. I hope there won't be another fire due to the generator!
DeleteI remember when I was without internet service for a couple of days after my neighbor's fire! My phone worked, but I had no internet or TV. I didn't miss not having TV, but it felt very strange, indeed, to be without my internet! I think I actually went to sleep early, because I wasn't reading blogs, etc.!
Hope your mild temperatures won't be too mild and cause more problems with ice! We are supposed to be sunny and back in the 70s, maybe even 80s, by the end of the week!
That is a pretty intense storm you're having. Stay safe.
ReplyDeleteYes, Live and Learn; I heard today that several people lost their lives due to the mudslides. :( Thank you; the rain is just a thin drizzle now, where I live. I appreciate the rain, but could do without all the destruction it can bring!
