Equally Warm Tuesday

Another warm day, here, although it felt a little cooler than yesterday.

I went for my immune booster injections in the morning.  Came home and had a scrambled egg and fried potatoes for brunch.

The first of the cherry guavas are ripe:

Ripe Cherry Guava
I picked and ate the ones that were ripe (after washing them, of course)!  They were still warm from the sun!

I felt very tired today, so I took a nap in the afternoon.  Ate a banana instead of having a cup of tea when I woke up.

Later in the evening, I deadheaded the roses in the front garden and put water.

Made a chicken and vegetable saute for dinner:

Chicken and Veggies
Unfortunately, I didn't have much of an appetite.  I forced myself to eat what I had served to the plate and put the rest of the dish in the fridge for later in the week.  At least I won't have to cook for a couple of days.

Today, I am grateful for:

- Safe drive to the clinic and back
- Immune booster injections
- Fresh, ripe cherry guavas
- Afternoon naps
- Phone calls from a friend and an aunt

Daughter just called (9:00 p.m.) to say she's home (at her apartment) after her last class.  Her class ends at 8:00 p.m., and then she has to wait for the bus.  Usually, she gets home around 8:45 p.m., but today, the bus driver got into a shouting match with a passenger who had to be removed from the bus and then, they had to wait for the bus driver's supervisor to arrive!  All the passengers had to get down and wait for another bus, daughter said.  Well, at least she's home safe and sound.  It's been a long day for her (her first class was at 9:00 a.m.) with classes and work in between classes.

How was your Tuesday?  Did you have a good day?

  1. There are times when I really don't feel like cooking and after standing in the kitchen I don't feel like eating it either, so having a couple of meals plated up ready and waiting for when you feel like them is a good idea.

That's a long day for your daughter. Is that a typical day for her? Amy finishes school in a couple of weeks to start study leave, then after her exams finish early June she's off until September when college starts. Have a good day. xx

    1. My treatments have left me without much of an appetite. Plus heartburn! I try to eat early, and I am fine as long as I am sitting up in a chair, but go to lie down and the heartburn starts. Last night, too, I had to take antacids before I could sleep.

Often, I am not hungry after I cook! So, having something already prepared is helpful.

Tuesdays are daughter's long day, with her evening class. Other days, she finishes classes and work by 6:30 p.m. or earlier. And she was able to arrange her schedule so she has no classes at all on Mondays and Fridays - that enabled her to fly down home on the weekends to accompany me to chemo treatments on Fridays.

That's great that your daughter gets to have study leave! They don't do that here! Classes go on right up till exams start.

  2. Oh I really want to taste a cherry guava now! How wonderful it is that you can just pick it from your own backyard.

It must have been frustrating for your daughter to have to wait even longer to get home because of the situation on the bus. I don't get why they had to wait for another bus, that sounds like a major inconvenience for the passengers who weren't at fault. Thankfully she got home alright.

I hope you got some rest last night and are feeling refreshed today without too many side effects from your treatment. Take care!

    1. Check your plant nurseries to see if they carry cherry guava plants - I'm sure they'll grow well in Florida.

I guess the passengers were told to wait for the next bus because there would have been formalities to get through with the supervisor having to take a written report of the incident, etc. and that would have taken some time. Or, maybe the bus driver wasn't allowed to work for the rest of her shift pending investigation into the incident? Apparently, the passenger got angry because another passenger brushed past him without saying, "Excuse me", and the bus driver tried to soothe him and then he turned on her and became verbally abusive and she made him leave the bus at the next stop! Fortunately, the buses come every 15 minutes or so, up there. But it was just one more thing at the end of a long day for daughter.

Thank you, I managed to get some sleep (after I dealt with the heartburn), and slept in a bit this morning (ignored Dancer kitty's pitiful meows for breakfast). Feeling OK, right now.

Hope you are feeling better, today.

    2. I feel better then I feel not so good again... I probably need a few more days of rest. I really haven't done anything today. I checked the University of Florida's fact sheet for guava trees in Florida and they are saying that they are an invasive species and to make sure to control their spread. Of course, I have had terrible luck with fruit trees (probably because I don't water them enough) so that might never be a problem. The main headache would be to figure out where to plant one. They need full sun but also to be 20 to 25 ft away from any other trees, poles or structures, which is a big challenge for us as we have many trees around our property, 2 power poles and the vegetable garden... I wouldn't want the shade from the tree preventing me from growing veggies. Also I need to keep my backyard accessible to large tree trimmer trucks since we still have large oak trees that need to be maintained periodically.

Did you ever grow vegetables in your garden, Bless?

I also ignored New Kitty's meows all day. She's been fed and has fresh water and a clean litterbox so I guess she just wants someone to play with her but today's not the day, haha.

I'm sorry you're having heartburn. Greg has the same problem when he lies down. I buy him the Tums Chewy Delights (they come in Cherry or Orange, CVS and other chains carry them, I think CVS has their own brand of it too) and he likes them. They're like soft caramels, not chalky pills.

    3. Well, that's interesting (the requirements for growing guava) because my cherry guava tree and one of the feijoa (pineapple guava) trees grow smack dab against my house and the other 2 feijoa are growing against the wall! They do all get full sun and, often, too much sun, because the cherry guavas sometimes get burned from the afternoon sun.

Yes, I used to grow vegetables in the garden: green beans, tomatoes, spinach, carrots, snow peas, eggplant, zucchini, bitter melon, chilies and bell peppers, beets, okra, onions, etc. Lots of vegetables. But, over the years, I stopped because I didn't have the time to tend to the garden. Not to mention having to water everything. I might start again after this year. We'll see.

The heartburn is one of the side effects, I was told. I have been prescribed some antacids but it means I have to take them every day as a preventive measure and I am already taking so many medications that I hate having to take another. So, I just take a Tums as and when needed.

Hope you get some rest and feel better, soon.

  3. Your medical system never fails to surprise me. All this driving back and forth for an injection that can be done by a nurse practitioner or nearby clinic seems inefficient. Would you be comfortable/trusting of a nearby facility? Do you have Home Nurse [used to be called VON] as a community service?
Thrilled to see some sliced carrot. Are you willing to eat asparagus, broccoli slaw, sweet potato slice, any of the squashes, grape tomatoes? They will grow in your garden for free.

    1. I am grateful to have medical care when so many others don't have any, so you'll not hear me complain. I am assigned to a particular clinic, based on the type of insurance I have. Unfortunately, that clinic is located downtown. It has worked out well for me in the past because I am usually able to go to my doctor's appointments from the office. Unfortunately, it is not as convenient under present circumstances. I could have found a closer location to my home if I had switched my primary care provider or chosen a different insurance provider when the annual enrollment took place in October. But I was already in the middle of treatments by then and afraid to switch, as it might have meant delays, etc.

I don't know if I have access to a Home Nurse; I think they are few and far between and only for patients who are much worse off than I.

Driving an hour or longer to downtown is fairly routine for me, since that is my daily commute when I go to work. The distance is just about 20 miles; it's the congestion that causes the long travel times.

I am actually willing to eat many things, but this week's vegetables will be limited by what's in the fridge/freezer. Since I've been told to avoid public places, I haven't gone to a grocery store. Daughter has been doing all my grocery shopping for me, but she got sick before she could shop for fresh produce when she came home last. And she didn't come home last weekend and she won't be coming home next weekend, either. So, I am going to be somewhat limited in terms of fresh produce for the next couple of weeks to what I have on hand and maybe what I can ask a neighbor to buy for me.

The one thing I miss the most is not being able to go grocery shopping and having to depend on others to do it for me.

  4. I'm sure having fresh fruit must be good for you - no nutrition wasted in traveling!
So glad that your daughter got home safely. With such a long day she certainly didn't need that delay.

    1. The fruit couldn't have been any fresher! Barely five minutes from picking to eating. :D

We were both glad when she finally got home and could relax and have dinner, etc.
