Chutney on Saturday

"No Waste" Peach Chutney

I made another batch of peach chutney, today, with 5 lbs. of the peaches we had picked earlier.  I had kept them in the bottom fridge drawer and they had frozen in there!  Oops!  I just cut up the frozen peaches, peels and all, and made chutney!  9 1/2 pints of "no waste" peach chutney!  That took up most of the afternoon and early part of the evening!

In the morning, I did a load of laundry and washed some dishes that I had been too tired to do yesterday.

Neighbor T called and we had a nice chat, although she called me thinking she was calling someone else!  Aunt C called, too, to check on Dancer.  Dancer has now started to run away from me when he sees me coming with the tube of eye ointment!  Poor kitty.  Later, I called and chatted with friend R.  I will take her some peaches, jam, and chutney, tomorrow.

My neighbors are having another noisy party with live mariachi band and amplifiers.  They have been preparing since Thursday - taking out their RVs, power washing the driveway, setting up tents, etc.  The party started at 2:30 p.m. and it is now half past midnight, and the music has been non-stop.  I have my windows and doors closed to minimize the noise, but, the house is vibrating to their base!  I like music and it is very upbeat for the most part, but, non-stop from 2:30 p.m. is starting to get to be a bit too much!  There is no sign of it stopping any time soon, either.  Yes, there is a noise ordinance in place and they are violating it, but, no one is enforcing the noise ordinance because our law enforcement officers have more serious crimes to deal with.  Fortunately, I don't go to sleep until the early hours of the morning, anyway.

It was a lovely sunny, warm day with a high of 78F.  Finally!  I was able to peel off my sweater!

Brunch was toast with butter and peach jam.  Dinner was some of the lavash flat bread with the last of the mackerel curry and a bowl of turkey/vegetable soup.

Today, I am grateful for:

- The sunny, warm day
- Peaches!
- Phone chats with family and friends
- Exchanging emails with friends
- More chutney

Today's joyful activity was making chutney.  It was tiring, too, but, it was joyful, too.

Plans for tomorrow include preserving more peaches - I'll can them in some simple sugar syrup.  I think I have enough jam and chutney.

How is your weekend coming along?

  1. Oh Bless I do feel sorry for you having such inconsiderate neighbours. I was thinking it should not be allowed after a certain time I think it's 11 p.m. here. Could you ask them to tone it down somewhat although that will probably be difficult for you?
You certainly are not wasting any of your bumper crop of peaches.

    1. They turned off the amplifiers around 1:30 a.m., but, I could still hear the singing and the brass instruments they were playing. Eventually, the party stopped around 2:30 a.m. It was quiet when I went to bed around 3:30 a.m. They have some music playing, again, right now (just before 2:00 p.m.), but, it's not amplified. At least it is a happy sound!
Other neighbors have asked them to turn their music down on previous occasions. They've called the police and they've gone there in person and yelled at them. It doesn't do any good! I am reluctant to say anything because I feel vulnerable.
No, I am not wasting any of that peach crop, if I can help it! :D

  2. Oh, my. That's a big celebration next door. I don't think I could have tolerated it as well as you did. I hope Dancer's eye clears up soon for both of your sakes. Giving meds to an unwilling cat is no fun for anyone.

    1. I'm resigned to their parties! It eventually ended around 2:30 a.m. The music has resumed this afternoon, but, it's not a live band!
Thank you, June; I, too, hope his eye gets better, soon. It's hard to hold him still with one hand and prop his eye lids open to apply the medication with the other hand!

  3. That chutney looks every bit as delicious as the other. I'm sure your neighbour was happy that she had dialled you after all. How kind of your aunt to check on Dancer. What a pity he doesn't like his eye ointment. I hope the neighbours' party didn't last much longer. I can imagine the feeling of dread whenever they get their tents set up! I suspect that people in the next road and beyond can also hear the racket.
I am now feeling dozy after being at church from 9.30 am when the choir rehearsal began, to 12.15 pm when Mass ended! I may have to think twice about going for a walk and hit the couch instead!

    1. Thank you, Bushlady; yes, the chutney is as delicious and I think I will use this no waste method for peach chutney from now on!
The party next door ended around 2:30 a.m., but, the celebrations have started, again! I can hear music being played, although it isn't a live band!
I hope you are able to take a nap and then, maybe a walk later on?

  4. I'm sorry your peace is being disturbed in this way. The people hosting the party are being inconsiderate at best.
I hope the noise won't continue too much longer. Xx

    1. Thank you, Jules. The party eventually ended around 2:30 a.m. and it was all quiet when I went to bed at 3:30 a.m. But, the music has resumed this afternoon, although it isn't a live band. Just someone playing music quite loudly. It's all done outside, in their back yard.

  5. I'm sorry you have such inconsiderate neighbors. I understand how you could feel vulnerable. I have a new neighbor renting the property behind me, across the alley, and he's trashing it. I don't want to confront him. I will try reporting him to city zoning, but they likely won't do anything. I hope your neighbors parties aren't too frequent. As for the peaches, you've certainly gotten a lot from that one tree!

    1. Thank you, Celie. I don't mind people partying, but, amplified music past midnight is a bit too much!
Yes, better not confront your new neighbor! If you know the owners of the property he's renting, then, maybe you can notify them.
This peach tree has outperformed itself each year!

  6. Oh no. I hate reading this. I feel sorry for you having to deal with this. Your neighbors are so inconsiderate. I would be crazy about it.
You are much more calm then I would be.
Can you go in your bedroom to buffer the noise somewhat? Does that put a wall or two between you and where it's coming from?

    1. It was very loud, but, I kept telling myself that they were just having a good time. Going to my bedroom doesn't really help - the music reverberates off neighbor T's house and it often sounds as if the music is coming from that direction! I haven't tried earplugs, though!
