Easter Sunday

Gazania Flowers

Easter Sunday was sunny and warm, with a high of 75F.  As you can imagine, I was more than happy and opened the windows and the front door, too, to get that warm air in to the house!

Once again, I sat outside, in the back yard, to say my morning prayers and enjoy the warmth (at the time, it was warmer outside than it was inside).  Afterwards, I walked around in the garden checking on the plants and admiring the flowers.

While I was still in the garden, I had a phone call from my friend S (not to be confused with neighbor S).  Friend S is Sri Lankan and she asked me if I could give her some curry leaves from my trees since she was all out of curry leaves.  I said yes, of course.  She said she had to go to work in the afternoon (she works at a grocery store and our grocery stores are open on Easter Sunday), but, her husband and daughter will stop by in the evening, around 5:00 p.m., to pick up the curry leaves; would I be home at that time?  I said yes, that would be fine.  I went ahead and picked a bag of curry leaves for her and added a few fresh lemons, as well.

In the afternoon, I continued to repair the quilt top and watched some videos, online.  Cooking videos, decluttering videos, a video about clothes from the "gilded age" that are part of an exhibit in a museum, etc.

Around 5:00 p.m., friend S's daughter called to let me know that she and her father were on their way to pick up the curry leaves.  Well, guess what?  They brought me a meal!

Rice and Curries, Compliments of Friend S

Friend S is a wonderful cook and she had prepared a meal in the morning, before she went to work!  Ghee rice, chicken curry, fried and cooked eggplant "moju", cashew curry, served in a container with extra cashew curry and mango curry in baggies and homemade tri-colored marshmallows for dessert!  Everything smelled so good that I had to have a taste of everything!  The rest was put in the fridge for later in the week.

Then, I watched the evening news and knitted.

A little while later, neighbor S brought me the Easter meal she and her family had prepared:

Easter Dinner, Compliments of Neighbor S

She brought me a feast!  Rice pilaf, fried tilapia, cabbage salad, a piece of cheese filled puff pastry known as burek/borek.  In addition, there were two pieces of Armenian cheese, Armenian bread, cut up tomatoes, some greens (scallions and herbs such as parsley), an Easter egg, and for dessert, there were slices of two different cakes her daughter N had baked!  One was an olive oil cake and the other was a yogurt lemon cake.  I had some of it for my dinner and I've put the rest in the fridge for tomorrow.

I don't think I will need to cook for at least a couple of days!  Next week's meal plan will be leftovers!  LOL.

Later in the evening, I called friend R and checked on her and video chatted with my daughter.

On Sunday, I was grateful for:
- Good friends and neighbors who bless me so much with their kindness and generosity
- An abundance of good food
- Phone calls and emails with friends and family
- A sunny and warm day (didn't need to switch on the heater at all!)
- Being able to share curry leaves and lemons from the garden

Today's joyful activity was enjoying the wonderful meals provided by my friend S and neighbor S!

According to the weather forecast, Monday will be another warm and sunny day!  Plans for Monday include a little housework and more quilt repairs.

What are your plans for Monday?

  1. Your meals from your friend and neighbour look really delicious. You are so fortunate to have such generous gifts of prepared meals.
The weather here is dreadful, it is pouring with rain and I have had to turn the heating on, such changeable weather we are having.

    1. I am very blessed to have such kind and generous friends, Eileen. It goes beyond the food, delicious as it all was. It's knowing that they cared enough to think of me in the first place. :) It made me feel hugged.

  3. You have such generous friends and an abundance of leftovers by the sound of it ... bye bye meal plan!

We have rain today. Typical Bank Holiday weather but I can't really complain because the rest of the Easter holiday has been sunny and bright. I've done a bit of sorting out this morning, have practiced the piano and now catching up on blog reading. It's quite chilly so I have turned the heating back on and I'll spend a pleasant hour or so reading. xx

    1. I do have some wonderful and generous friends, don't I? The meal plan will be leftovers! :D
Sounds like you've had a very productive day, even if it was rainy and cold. We had a warm day, today, but, it's supposed to get cooler with rain in the forecast for Thursday.

  4. How lovely that you had two Easter dinners delivered to you! You are well set up for the rest of the week. We had decided to go with a takeout option of turkey dinner from a local restaurant, and what a good thing it was, as we had a totally unexpected power outage in our immediate area, so cooking a big meal would have presented problems. The generator ensured that we had fridge, freezer, heat and water and internet, but the oven would have been out of action with a half cooked meal! We enjoyed our takeout and got power back later in the evening.

    1. It was wonderful to have two Easter meals delivered to me, Bushlady. I am very blessed!
That was very fortunate that you had already decided on having a turkey dinner from a local restaurant! Trying to cook a holiday meal with the power out would have been a problem, I'm sure! As it was, you had everything under control! I'm glad the power came back, later on. :)

I am so blessed to have such caring and generous friends who bring me food!
I don't know if you'd be able to grow a curry leaf tree indoors, but, it might be something to try! I'm sure if you have it in a location with plenty of sunlight and warmth, it will adapt to growing indoors. :)

  6. How wonderful that your friend and neighbor both brought you meals! The food looks delicious. You share so much with them as well. It's turned warm here suddenly, 76F high today! It will be warm all week, but I'm sure it won't last into next. Enjoy your sunny days.

I heard on the news that some states will be experiencing summer-like temperatures, this week! Enjoy the warm weather while you can! :) Today was a beautifully warm and sunny day, here! Tomorrow will be warm, too, but, there's rain in the forecast for Thursday!

    1. They were delicious; I think food prepared by other people often tastes better, probably because they cook different things and in different ways than I do. :)

Thank you for visiting my blog and leaving a comment. I tried to leave a comment on your blog post about the owls, but, I couldn't figure out how to do so. Instead, I read your post about how you moved to France and left a comment there. :)

  9. My goodness!!! What a wonderful assortment of foods from your friends on Easter. Everything looks so delicious - all the variety and colors. I always get so hungry reading your blog lol
What are the two white items on the small plate - they look like feta.
I received my own food gift on Monday from a neighbor. (The neighbor who bought the house next door) He had a variety of things leftover from their Easter and wondered if I would like some. Of course I said yes (and thought of you;)
A container of greens, 3 lbs of delicious grapes- they are so good- a bag of mandarins and a bag of celery and a bag of limes.
All unopened. I gave the greens to my friend who eats a big salad every day.
I quartered the limes and froze them individually on a baking sheet in the freezer. Once they were frozen I put them all in a freezer bag. It will be wonderful to grab a piece or two of lime when I need it.
It's funny about the celery. Other than at Thanksgiving I never buy celery. It's not something I use enough of or care enough about to pay for. I'd rather buy capers and dates and cheese with my money hahahaha
But sometimes I wish I had a stalk to chop up for a soup.
So I was really happy to get that bag of celery
And I made some noodle soup yesterday with it.

    1. It was quite a feast and an assortment of flavors. The two white items that look like feta are a type of Armenian cheese. It is a bit crumbly.
I'm glad that your neighbor shared some of his extras with you and you not only accepted them but passed along the greens to your friend!
A good idea to freeze the limes! I have a bag of quartered lemons in the freezer for those times when I might run out of fresh lemons before the next crop is ready to be picked.
Celery freezes well - I chop it up into small pieces or slices and freeze them in small baggies. I don't like to eat raw celery, but, like you, I like to add it to soups or to ground beef (along with onions, carrots, etc.) to extend it (and to sneak in a bit of vegetables to my diet!).

  10. Well that was a day of untold bounty! How kind of everyone. What were the homemade marshmallows like? They are not my favourite sweet, but I wonder if homemade is better...

    1. It was very kind and generous of my friends and neighbors to treat me to Easter meals. The homemade marshmallows were very good, but, then, I like marshmallows! Growing up, the only marshmallows I knew of were the ones my maternal grandmother would make at Christmas (she made her own Turkish Delight, too).
