Zucchini, Anyone?

Wednesday's Zucchini Harvest

This is what M picked today, after picking almost as many on Friday!   What a bountiful blessing!  We gave away most of Friday's pickings to friends and neighbors.  I think some of today's harvest might be set out in a box with a Free sign on it!

It was a slightly cooler day, today and another pain-free day.  I spent the majority of the day reading and sewing on the quilt.  My biggest accomplishment today was changing my bedsheets (daughter helped with putting on the fitted sheet) and doing a load of laundry (again, she helped with getting the last of the washed items out of the washing machine because the tub is deep and I am short; she didn't want me to bend over too much to reach the last few items at the bottom).

Today, I am grateful for:

- Another pain free day
- The bountiful garden harvest!
- M being able to water the garden midweek
- My daughter's help with the housework
- Electricity to run the fans

Today's joyful activity was sewing on the quilt.

How was your day?

  1. Another bountiful harvest of zucchini. Taking it slow in your recovery is probably a wise move & look at all you are accomplishing - the repair on the quilt I am sure was a big task.

    1. I am starting to feel inundated with zucchini! LOL. I had fully expected at least half the seedlings to die, otherwise, I'd have planted fewer seeds!

My daughter is super worried on my behalf (that I'll get another flare up), so I am indulging her by taking it easy. But, I think I need to start doing a bit more!

The quilt repair is coming along nicely, although it is a bit too warm to be working on a flannel backed quilt, right now! :D

  2. I think it's always easier to make a bed with two people. I do it by myself sometimes, but am always thankful when I have help.

    1. Thank you, June; you always know the right thing to say. :) My daughter thinks the problem is my fitted sheet doesn't fit properly and needs to be pulled into place (it was one of those "slightly imperfect" sets that I bought from a discount store back in 2014; more for the comforter that came with it than anything else): https://bless2cents.blogspot.com/2014/09/weekend-doings-bargain-shopping.html

Daughter thinks I should buy myself a new set of better fitting sheets! :D

    1. Isn't it? I wish I had a bigger freezer! But, since I don't, I think I'll be looking for more neighbors who might like zucchini! :D

  4. Oh my gosh. It is looking like all 14 plants are out there and producing.
You are the zucchini grower extraordinaire. lol

That's probably smart that your daughter got the clothes out of the deep wash tub.
You don't want to stress the area of the body where the sciatic nerve is at this point that's for sure. Not that that motion would do it - who knows? - but better safe than sorry.

Yum - waffles were very tasty with the peach chutney.

    1. We are going to be buried under a mound of zucchini at this rate! LOL. I am almost tempted to ask M to pull out half of the zucchini plants! :D But, no, I won't do that - I'll just ask daughter to take some of the extra zucchini to the temple so anyone who visits can take some.

Yes, I am taking every precaution not to cause a flare up, if only to spare my daughter the worry. She is so anxious on my behalf.

    2. No don't destroy the plants! That would be such a pity.
I'm sure the temple and any passers-by will be very grateful for your surplus. It's going to be huge with 14 plants but they, too, are a blessing ... and you'll be a bit more sparing next year I'm sure. G has only 4 plants and even that number is enough to feed most of her village for the whole summer!

    3. I honestly fully expected most of the plants to die! Just as they have done in years past! I really didn't think they will all grow and produce so profusely! No, I won't destroy the plants; I will take this opportunity to bless others with the surplus produce! :)

  5. I'm impressed with your zucchini harvest. Taking them to the temple is an excellent way of dealing with the excess and I'm sure will be appreciated by many that way.

I wonder if the doctor will suggest any exercises for you if the MRI doesn't highlight any issues. I wonder if the inactivity of resting, though obviously essential, is also impacting on your muscle tone which comes with its own set of problems.

What will you be doing tomorrow, apart from looking for zucchini recipes? 😂 My gardener will be here tomorrow so I will be busy outdoors, followed by some bulk cooking in the afternoon.

    1. Yes, I've harvested way more zucchini than we can eat by ourselves, so, it's time to find a way to share the bounty!

I hope the doctor will suggest some exercises (if not, I will need to ask her). I'm sure my enforced inactivity isn't very good for me in the long run!

I've spent a good portion of my day catching up on Mary-Lou's old blog posts! I've been reading her blog from the beginning, as I did Lady Ella's and yours. :)

  6. Zucchini, the plant that gives and gives! Our son may not have that problem as he wrote to say that something had been nipping off the zucchini flowers during the night!
I'm finding plenty of Monarch caterpillars on the milkweed at the moment, including up the road. I hope that as many as possible will eventually succeed in becoming butterflies.

    1. Too bad your son doesn't live close to me - I have more than enough zucchini to share! :D I really wouldn't mind if Bun Bun decided to eat some zucchini flowers, but, so far, it doesn't seem to care much for them! :D

Oh, I do hope the Monarch caterpillars will do well over the summer and become butterflies.

  7. That's quite a crop! And you've reminded me that I have one in the fridge which needs using up. X

    1. It is, isn't it? We picked 4 more, yesterday! :D What will you make with the one you have in your fridge?

    2. I think I might use it in a Spanish omelette, along with some peppers. X
