It is time for the SPSH first link up, hosted by Mary-Lou at Patio Postcards!
I had posted a few of my first SPSH photos in an earlier post, too, but, these are the ones I have selected for this first official link up:
No. 5: The Art of the Fold - An origami heart my daughter did in high school with a piece of paper on which she had worked out a math problem, which is why I call it "A Calculating Heart":

It's a bit battered, partly because it was among a pile of old school work to be recycled when I saw it and rescued it.
No. 7: What's in Bloom - There are different things blooming in the garden almost every day. But, these double colored roses are a favorite as no two flowers are the same.

DeleteBless thanks for joining in with the SPSH. You are off to a grand start in your finds. Your art of the fold - wow. I did chuckle at all the zucchini in your frig!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Mary-Lou. I couldn't pass up on that photo of the inside of my fridge! :D
DeleteWho is the figurine of? Was it a favorite of your mother's?
ReplyDeleteMy mother always referred to it as a Georgian gentleman; apparently, at one time, she had a lady figurine, too, and they were a pair, but, I don't remember ever seeing it. I really don't know if it was a favorite or not, but, it is one of the few items she chose to take with her when we left Sri Lanka. When we left, we were allowed to take two suitcases each as our baggage and each suitcase could only weigh so much - I think it was 44 lbs/20 kilos. My mother had to condense the contents of 2 houses into 6 suitcases. Obviously, we sold or gave away all the furniture and took with us only the most valued and sentimental items. We stored a couple of items with relatives and collected them 6 years later, when my mother and I went back for a visit. But, the figurine was something my mother packed into her suitcase. I never thought to ask her about the significance of that figurine or why she decided to keep it when she let so many other things go. And now, I keep it because she kept it! Which really isn't a good reason to keep it, is it?
DeleteNow, I'm curious. I wonder why she chose the figurine out of all the things that needed to come. I guess we'll never know.
DeleteMaybe it reminded her of her younger years - I think she said she was in her teens when she got them and I think she said she bought them, herself. There is another set of Chinese dolls, also a couple, that she kept and brought with her (and I know why she kept them). Their original clothes crumbled away and she made new outfits for them. I still have them, too, and continue to keep them, although my daughter doesn't like them!
DeleteYou've made a good start. I like your courgette collection in the fridge ... I bet no-one else will have one like that!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Eileen. Ha, ha, that picture of the zucchini in the fridge is the picture of this summer! :D
DeleteI love the zucchini in the fridge!
ReplyDeleteThank you! This is the summer of the zucchini! :D
DeleteGreat ideas so far. How lucky that you hadn't recycled the calculating heart yet. It's perfect :0)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Liz. I saw that you had an example of origami (in better condition) in your selection of photos, too. :)
DeleteLove the origami heart, and of course, the fridge photo--what a great start for the scavenger hunt!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Karen. This is the summer of the zucchini at my house! :D
DeleteGreat pictures. I'm not sure I could do the origami but it gives me some ideas for this.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Kirstin. Glad the origami picture gave you some ideas for the prompt. :)
Deletehaha - love the zucchini in the fridge. If the prompt was "What you've been up to" it would've worked for that too lol
ReplyDeleteThose roses are really special. I love that no two are alike.
It is the summer of the zucchini, that's for sure! :D Those plants are still producing and we are still harvesting! Those roses are my favorites, I think. :)
