Productive Thursday

New Kitchen Faucet  (Oops!  Should have cleaned the back splash, first!)

Today has been another good day and a productive one as well!

I had asked M if he knew of a plumber and he said that neighbor A (behind me, one house over; he tends to her garden, too) had recommended a company she had used.  Both he and I contacted A to find out the details, which she texted to us, this morning.

I called the plumbing company and they sent a plumber out this afternoon.  In addition to the drippy faucet in the kitchen, I also had no hot water in my shower (although I had hot water in the sink faucet).  A previous plumber had told me that I needed to replace the whole shower unit - that was shortly before the Covid lockdown, but, since I had another bathroom, I just used the shower in that bathroom and put off buying a new shower unit.

Well, the plumber who was here today checked the shower and made an adjustment in how much the shower handle could be turned and just like that, I had hot water!  Apparently, the shower handle didn't turn all the way up to open the hot water valve fully!  Who knew?

The kitchen faucet wasn't such an easy fix; he recommended that I replaced the faucet, which is what I expected I would have to do.  He would go and buy it for me, if I would reimburse him for it when he brought me the receipt.  Yes please!  He asked me if I wanted the same type of faucet and I said yes (single handle, with a side nozzle that pulls out).  The new faucet cost $88.01 with tax.  The labor charges for both the shower handle adjustment and kitchen faucet installation came to $110, which was surprisingly reasonable I thought.  The last time I had the kitchen faucet replaced (over 12 years ago), I paid $200 just for labor.

As he was leaving to go, I asked the plumber if he would like to have some freshly picked home grown zucchini and he said yes, his wife would like to have some.  I gave him three zucchini to take home with him!

Later, I texted neighbor A to say the plumber had been and thanked her for the recommendation.  Then, I asked her if she'd like to have some homegrown zucchini and she said she'd love some!  My daughter walked over to her house and gave her a bag with three zucchini before A could change her mind!  LOL

In the morning, before the plumber was due to arrive, I cleaned my bathroom - this time, I not only swept the bathroom floor, I mopped it, too!  Daughter was anxious that I was doing too much, but, I felt OK.  In the afternoon, I did a little more repair work on the quilt and watched some videos.  Later in the evening, I did two loads of laundry (still have to fold and put away the washed clothes).  Then, I cooked sausages and a stir fry with zucchini and carrots in the electric skillet for dinner.  That took care of another half of a fairly big zucchini - the rest of the zucchini will be cooked tomorrow.

I am happy with what I was able to accomplish today!

Today, I am grateful for:

- A and M helping me with finding a plumber
- Getting the plumbing work done
- Working fixtures
- What I was able to accomplish today
- Finding two more willing takers for the zucchini glut!

Today's joyful activity was getting the plumbing work done!

Plans for tomorrow include M's visit to tend to the garden (what are the chances that he'll find more zucchini to harvest?)

How was your day, today?  What are your plans for tomorrow?

  1. Another job well done, and it will be a good idea to keep the number of the plumber for if you might need him again. X

    1. Yes, I printed out a copy of the invoice (it was emailed to me) and the number is on it. I will keep it in the file folder for household repairs. :)

  2. I'm loving my new faucet (we call them taps in the UK) in the bathroom. No sign of any giveaway zucchini (UK = courgettes) in the hutch by my neighbour's door yet.

    1. We used to call them taps, too, when I was growing up in Sri Lanka! :) I don't remember seeing zucchini when I was a child, so, have no idea what they were called in SL.

Hope your neighbor has some courgettes to give away, soon!

  3. I hope there will be no ill effects for such a busy day. Plumbers are an expensive sometime necessity, but yeah to finding a reasonable one. Happy Weekend.

    1. Thankfully, I slept well, last night, and there were no ill effects. It's a bit of a trial and error period, right now, trying to figure out how much I can do without getting a flare up!

I'm very glad I found a plumber who seems reasonable; I've already recommended him to a friend of mine!

Thank you, Mary-Lou; hope you, too, have a lovely weekend.

  4. What a great day! Productive and a nice knowledgeable plumber that didn't take advantage with ridiculous labor charges. I hope the weekend is great. :)

  5. Yeah for getting things fixed! It always feel so good to get those jobs done.

I know we've talked before how difficult it can be just to find someone to to do house repairs. Now you've found a good - and it seems like affordable - plumber.
You must be thrilled having hot water in your shower again and a new kitchen faucet.

You were very busy yesterday and got a lot accomplished.

I noticed a couple days ago we have a squirrel (I think) that got into our gutter under the protective screens on it knocking them all askew. I don't know what's going on but I can see a lot of debris hanging out of the gutter.
It's a two-story house and my husband used to climb up there and take care of the gutters but it's not a chore we can or should be doing any longer. So we have a guy coming this morning to take care of it. I hope he has the time to go around and clean all of the gutters and secure all the screens on them.

We are getting two sides of our house painted this summer. The eastern and southern sides get the most wear by far which is funny because I would've supposed that the northern side would show the most wear to the shingles in our cold climate but it doesn't.
The other sides are still looking good. The paint job was supposed to start June 1 but hasn't. That's just how it goes with these things and hopefully the painter will be coming soon. It someone my husband knows so I'm hoping we will be coming up soon on his job list.

As I type this the gutter guy got is here and is going to clean all of the gutters and the painter is talking to my husband and going to start next week.
Things are getting taken care of from coast to coast, Bless :)

    1. Yes, it does feel good to get some of these things crossed off the "mile long" to do list! :) Unfortunately, there are still a bunch of things remaining on that list! Sounds like you are getting a few things accomplished over at your end, too! It's good to know that things are being taken care of from coast to coast, isn't it? :D

  6. Hi Bless, I am slow catching up with blogs. I bought my house 22 years ago with no appliances, so got all new. I'm just starting needing to replace. New clothes washer comes next week as the old one couldn't be repaired. I replaced the fridge 6 months ago, and the new one quit working after just 4 months! I had to wait 3 weeks for a part. I think 27 years for a stove is excellent! I hope a new one fits in the space. I'm glad to hear your back is doing so well. My best to you, Celie.

    1. Hi Celie, glad to hear from you again. Just yesterday, I was telling my daughter, I haven't heard from you, recently and I was wondering if you had gone to take care of your sister, again. I hope she is doing well?

Oh, that's terrible that the new fridge quit working after only 4 months! I hope the warranty covered the cost of the new part and labor!

Hope all is well with you, Celie, and have a lovely weekend.

  7. It sounds like you've found a reliable plumber and so good of him to buy the tap for you to reimburse him. You're not going to know yourself with new taps, hot water in the shower and a new stove! I admit that I was amused that you didn't miss the opportunity to pass on zucchinis to him and to neighbour A ... well done. 😂

    1. I am very glad I found a good plumber! I've already recommended him to one of my friends!

I'm getting thoroughly spoiled with new taps, hot water, new appliances, etc.! Now, I need to find a good electrician to fix the heater in the bathroom, replace the broken ceiling fans and light fixtures and then we'll talk! :D

Ha, ha, I am very grateful for any opportunity to be able to bless others with my zucchini harvest! LOL!

  8. What a successful visit from the plumber and so nice that the bill for all the work was so much more reasonable than a previous experience. He is definitely a "keeper"! Added bonus that he and neighbour A were both happy to receive zucchini gifts!
We had light rain all night and more this morning. It prevented both DH and I from meeting outdoors with our respective friends, but I did go grocery shopping, and succumbed to the temptation of a large pizza which I baked for our lunch, there is even some leftover.

I'm sorry the rain prevented you and your husband from meeting outdoors with your friends. Hopefully, you will be able to meet them another day when the weather is better. Glad you treated yourselves to a pizza for lunch. Enjoy the leftovers for a snack! :)

  9. That’s an extremely reasonable bill to replace a faucet.

The other day I wanted to make zucchini mallung because I saw one small zucchini in the vegetable drawer while looking for something else in the fridge. It turned out to be a cucumber! 😁

    1. Yes, that's what I thought, too, Nil, that the plumber's charges were very reasonable.

Oh, no! I'm sorry it turned out to be a cucumber! We picked 5 more zucchini today - wish I could send you a couple of them!

  10. So glad you found a decent plumber! Sounds like he knew what he was talking about. It isn't always easy to find someone reliable and reasonably priced. Nice of your neighbour to give you the number.

  11. That plumber was a great find. We have a few little plumbing jobs that were saving up for one visit sometime, but we don't have a regular person we call. I hope we get as lucky as you did.
