Tuesday's Update

Mirabilis/Four-o-Clocks

Today was another good day!  Such a blessing!  I was able to do a few more things (make my tea, put coffee to brew for my daughter, make myself a sandwich, etc.) that made me feel like I was making progress.  I never realized how much I took being able to do these small tasks for granted!

In between these and other small tasks, I chatted on the phone with neighbor T (she's feeling better, she said), aunt C and cousin N (they loved the cookies my daughter had made and given them), friend R, and cousin P.  I also watched more videos and finished knitting the sweater I was making for my daughter.  I need to weave in the ends and tidy it up a bit before I take a picture to post.

The highlight of the day was taking a short walk in the garden with my daughter and checking on the plants!  I took a couple of photos, including the one above, picked a couple of peaches, and pointed out some more zucchini for daughter to pick!  One of them had grown quite big and I joked that we should be able to get at least three loaves of zucchini bread out of it!  There is also a recipe for chocolate zucchini cake that Lady Ella has so kindly shared to try.  I've a feeling that there might be some baking, later this week!

Today, I am grateful for:

- Another pain-free day
- Being able to do some small household tasks
- Phone calls with family and friends
- Emails from friends
- Garden produce

Today's joyful activity was a walk in the garden!  I was so happy to be able to see the plants and the flowers and pick some of the fruits and vegetables.

I'm hoping that I didn't overdo things, today, because I can feel a little tightness in my left leg!  Hopefully, it will go away and not worsen into a flare up!

Plans for tomorrow include M's visit and tidying up the sweater.

How was your Tuesday?  What are your plans for Wednesday?

  1. Having a very quiet day while my other half recovers from a heavy cold. Taking a dress apart to remake it.

  2. It's great to hear that you continue to be pain free and I hope that the tightness you were feeling didn't lead to another flare up. I'm sure the walk around the garden lifted your spirits and it's good to hear that your daughter is taking such good care of you.

I'm having a quieter day today, mainly sitting in the garden to read. I'll go over to the marina later on to add to the number of steps completed. I don't plan to walk too far, just to have a change of scene.

    1. Thank you, Eileen; I didn't have a flare up last night, after all! I'm taking it just a bit easy, today, as I don't want to push it. But, I am hoping that I might be able to go out into the garden, again. :)

A day spent reading in the garden and a walk to the marina sounds good to me. Hope you enjoy the walk. :)

  3. Yeah for you. Living with constant pain is so draining, so it is marvelous that you are getting pain free days & small returns to "normal" life. Your Four O'Clocks are quite pretty.

    1. Thank you, Mary-Lou. Yes, constant pain is so debilitating and exhausting! I am grateful for each and every day that I am pain free! And I rejoice in being able to do those small tasks that I took for granted and sometimes grumbled about! The four o'clocks self-seed and come back year after year!

  4. I planted mirabilis a month ago, but have no showing. Maybe there was a reason the bulbs were half price. :)

    1. Keep them in place and maybe they'll start to grow, later. Once established, they will return year after year. Mine grow from both seeds and bulbs.

  6. Glad you were feeling a bit better!
Thank you for posting the picture of the four o'clocks. My grandmother had them between her house and her next door neighbors. When we were kids we would get a needle and thread and make 4 o'clock leis to wear around while we played outside there.

I'm glad the picture of the four o'clocks brought back memories of your grandmother's garden for you. :)

  7. Good news! I hope you managed another circuit of the garden with no ill effects. I trust we'll hear the details tomorrow (including how many coats you wore for the outing!).

    1. Thank you, Lady Ella. I did take a short walk in the garden this afternoon (at 1:30 p.m.) when M was here. It was 74F (23C); it felt a bit cool, but, with the sun shining almost directly overhead, I didn't need a coat or a sweater! :D

  8. Lovely flowers and so good that you were able to "take a turn" around the garden (sounds like someone out of Jane Austen's era when I put it that way).
My first giant poppy bloom is out and 18 to go! That plant has been faithful for years and gives a lot of pleasure with the brilliant red flowers. Our yard could be summed up with the word "abundance" as there is just so much of everything, including zillions of maple keys falling from the trees. No wonder we keep finding tiny maple trees everywhere.

    1. Thank you, Bushlady; I was able to take a turn around the garden, today, too!

Oh, your poppies sound so beautiful! Your garden sounds like a lovely place, too. Maybe you can start potting up those tiny maple seedlings and offer them for sale!

  9. Glad it was a good day and you were able to get out in the garden. I'm not much of a zucchini lover but I really enjoy breads and muffins made out of it. Yum!

    1. Thank you, Sharon; I, too, love zucchini bread and muffins, etc., more than zucchini cooked as a vegetable! :)

  10. Glad to hear that you are feeling so much better, Bless. I was worried. Chatting with friends on the phone is so healing. That zucchini recipe sounds delicious.

    1. Thank you, Stephenie. It's taking me a long time to heal, but, I am hoping that I will continue to feel better. Chatting with friends on the phone is lovely. The next best thing to visiting with them in person!

  11. Yeah! A trip to the garden.
And more zucchini. I made a chocolate zucchini cake once and it was very good.
I am hoping you didn't overdo it and continue to feel well.

    1. Thank you, Debra. I have received two recipes for chocolate zucchini cake (one using a cake mix, the other from scratch); we might make one or both and see how they turn out! I've had a couple of good days, so, I'm hopeful that it will continue. :)
