Sunday Update

Today, too, was another good day!  I'm so grateful to have had another pain free day!

I walked a little more (still inside the house) today than I did yesterday.  Daughter did household chores and watered the fruit trees in the back garden.  I folded two loads of laundry for her (while seated on the bed) and she put them away.  I also cut some green beans and, because she was still watering the garden, added the curry powder and other seasonings plus water and kept them on the stove to cook on low heat.  I went back to the kitchen a couple of times to stir them, by which time, daughter had come in from watering and took over.  I felt like I accomplished something, helping her with the cooking!

In between, I read blogs, watched You Tube videos (quilting, gardening, decluttering), and knitted.

I also called to check on neighbor T, who seems to have hurt her back!  She called me yesterday morning to tell me about it; I urged her to tell her daughter, so she could come and check on her (her daughter lives a short drive away) but she was reluctant to do so.  Later in the evening, yesterday, I called to check on T and asked if she would like my daughter to bring her some dinner, but, she declined.   Today, when I called her, she said she had told her daughter, this morning.  Again, I asked if she would like my daughter to bring her anything, but, she declined.

This evening, Aunt C and cousin N stopped by to drop off a bag of clothes (mostly sweaters).  Aunt C has been decluttering her closet, again!  They didn't want to come in, but, daughter gave them a bag of her homemade cookies as a small thank you gift.  Cousin was very happy with the cookies and daughter and I are happy with the sweaters!  Aunt told us to give away any we don't want, but we will probably keep them all.  I will take one or two and daughter will take the rest.  She will find them very useful when she goes back to Berkeley, especially since her office will be moving to a new location which has an open plan with cubicles where she will not be able to use her personal space heater unlike at the former location (there had been a memo stating that no personal heaters will be allowed).

Today, I am grateful for:

- Another good, pain free day
- New to us clothes
- Being able to help daughter a little bit with the cooking, etc.
- Working appliances
- Fun videos to watch

Today's joyful activities included knitting and watching videos!

Plans for tomorrow include more knitting and maybe, if things continue to go well, a walk in the garden?

How was your Sunday?  What are your plans for Monday and the week ahead?

  1. So glad you had a pain free day. I feel sorry for your neighbour - she calls to tell you about her back pain, then appears to refuse all offers of help. Your daughter will appreciate those new sweaters this autumn in her chilled workspace!

  2. That is good news. It's also good you have your knitting to keep you busy. You've reminded me that I need to buy some wool so I can knit a winter jumper for Lily. X

    1. Thank you, Mary-Lou; I am enjoying reading your blog from the beginning! And as I mentioned, I was highly intrigued to see that you had cited a quote from a friend of mine in one of your old posts!

  5. Good to hear that you are gradually doing more but not overdoing things. What fun to have another clothes donation.
The weather is up in the mid 90s lately and humid, but we did have some more rain. I tend to stay home in this heat but will take an umbrella for sunshade and walk to the mailbox this afternoon as I didn't even check on Friday.

    1. Thank you, Bushlady; I have had another good morning with a few simple tasks accomplished, which has pleased me no end! It's always a pleasure to receive new to us clothes and I am glad that my daughter appreciates them as much as I do.

Wow, you are having higher temperatures up there than we are having over here! Stay cool!

  6. Warm sweaters really come in handy, especially in the Bay Area. I'm glad that you are feeling better. My Sunday and Monday included kayaking, which was fabulous!

    1. Thank you, Debra. I am so glad I can do a few more things, these days.
I called neighbor T and she said she's feeling better; her daughter had bought some of the medicated muscle relaxant patches my doctor had suggested I used (although they didn't do anything for me!) and she finds them helpful.

  8. I’m so glad to hear you are feeling better, Bless.

When I was a grad student, I kept a small heater in my lab room. Everyone else used to fight over the thermostat. 😊

  9. Yay for another pain free day. Do you think perhaps you're turning the corner on your pain? I hope so. Sorry about your neighbor's back pain. Yes, check on her periodically to make sure she is okay. Too bad your daughter won't be able to use a personal heater at her new work location. It's probably for safety reasons. Denise

    1. Thank you, Denise; I do hope I'm turning the corner where the pain is concerned, but, I don't know for sure, because my left foot is still numb. As long as it is numb, it is a symptom that the sciatic nerve is still impacted. So, it is a matter of finding out just what I can do and can't do without triggering another flare up. I've been checking on my neighbor a couple of times a day; she seems to be on the mend. Yes, I think the use of personal heaters at the new location is a safety concern. It's probably a fire risk.

  10. It sounds sound you're moving forward in your recovery which is so good to hear.

Is it much colder where your daughter lives?

    1. Thank you, Eileen; I am fervently hoping that I am on the way to recovery!

Yes, it is colder up in the Bay Area, which includes San Francisco and Berkeley. It's often foggy, too. It's a place where, if the day time highs go up to the mid 70s, people consider it a heatwave! My daughter is like me - we think the mid 80s is just comfortable!

  11. You're such a good neighbour! I'm glad she finally called her daughter. I know that sometimes people don't like to ask for her but I'm sure her daughter would prefer to know!
