Monthly Photo Challenge - May: Red

The theme for the May monthly photo challenge hosted by Eileen was "Red".

I took the majority of these photos at the beginning of the month - in the first week.  Looking back, I am so very glad I did that!

Red flowers in my garden:

Hibiscus

Red Rose

Red Rose 2

Pomegranate

Bottlebrush (Callistemon) Flower

Bottle Brush Flowers

Red Stamens of the Pineapple Guava (Feijoa) Flowers

Pineapple Guava/Feijoa Flower Stamens

And a red amigurumi cephalopod my daughter crocheted, a long time ago; it was one of her first amigurumi creations:

Red Cephalopod

She was trying to create a "tako" (octopus in Japanese) but ended up with a pentapus - it has five legs and a snout!

The theme for June is "beginning with D" if anyone is interested in joining.  The rules are simple: the photos must be taken by you, during the month (no photos from the archives), a minimum of five (no upper limit).

Thank you for this opportunity to participate in the monthly photo challenge, Eileen.

  1. Oh you joined in! I really thought you might not have managed to take any photos, so seeing these was a great surprise! And the pics are brilliant. Such beautiful, vibrant reds in your garden. My fave is the hibiscus, but I've always liked bottlebrush too.

Hope your day has not been too uncomfortable.

    1. Thank you, Lady Ella. I was so glad I had taken these photos in early May! Yet another benefit of not procrastinating! I have read that bottlebrush flowers are edible/makes a good tea, but I don't know that for sure! But, the rest of the flowers I've pictured are all either edible (hibiscus, rose, feijoa) or produce edible fruits (pomegranate, feijoa). :)

Today has been better, thank you. Still taking it easy, though.

  5. Very pretty red flowers for your challenge.
Those bottle brush flowers are especially striking.

Sitting here this morning I'm trying to think what red I would have outside in May.
Azaleas for me. One newer one that is a true red and a few others that are reddish-pink.
And just recently I bought a few annuals that have a bit of red.

I'm glad you had taken those pictures earlier in the month so you were able to participate.

    1. Thank you, Debra. It's funny, but, until I took these photos, I hadn't realized just how many red flowers I had! I took them at the correct time, too, because now, the pomegranate flowers have finished flowering and the pineapple guava flowers are probably coming to an end, too. Not to mention the fact that I can't walk around to take any pictures at this time!

Sounds like your garden is coming along nicely. Azaleas are so pretty - I tried growing them in my garden, one time, but, they didn't survive my neglect!

  6. I rally wasn't expecting you to join in this time so this post is a lovely surprise. The hibiscus in the first photo is absolutely beautiful and I love the little red pentapus in your last photo.

Many thanks for joining in, Bless x

    1. I was laughing at myself for being so eager to take the photos at the beginning of the month, but, I am glad I didn't procrastinate for once! I shall do my best to participate in June, too, but, I don't promise anything! I might have to cheat and ask my daughter to participate on my behalf!

    2. You'll be the Artistic Director so that's fine ... or five different photos of Dancer meets the brief as well 😊

    3. Ha, ha, I already took a picture of Dancer from my bed, today! Used the zoom feature on my cell phone camera, so it might be a bit blurry, but, it is something I took, myself. :)

  7. I've never seen pineapple guava flowers before. They are very interesting, not to mention pretty. I like the subject matter you chose for the challenge.

    1. The petals of the pineapple guava flowers are edible. They have a slightly sweet taste. The birds, especially mockingbirds, love to eat them! I prefer to eat the fruit to eating the flowers, myself. :)

    1. Thank you, Bushlady. I'm glad I didn't procrastinate taking the pictures.

Thank you, too, for thinking of me and keeping me in your prayers. I'm feeling a little better, today, but, still resting in bed! The pain keeps coming and going. :(
