Monday

Sunday was "cold", with a high of only 61F (don't laugh; that's winter for us in southern California!), mostly sunny, and very windy.  I had the heater on during the night and in the morning.  Later, however, I turned the heater off, opened a window or two to air out the house, bundled up, and went into the garden to walk for 20 minutes and then, do a little bit of gardening.  Afterwards, I called friend R and chatted with her a bit, exchanged emails with a friend, and, later, video chatted with my daughter.  It was a quiet, restful day.

Today started out cold, but, it warmed up to 63F in the afternoon!  Another sunny day, without the wind.  I went outside and walked for a bit in the late morning, and, again, in the early afternoon.  I called the oncologist's office to see if the mammogram results have come in yet, but, apparently not.  There was also a message from the pharmacy about a couple of my medications and I got that sorted out.  One prescription refill was ready to be picked up and I requested they mailed it to me.  The other prescription, I was told, was waiting for the doctor's office to authorize, but, when I called the doctor's office, they said they had done that, already.  Then, I called the pharmacy back and they said to disregard their text!  LOL.

In the afternoon, I had my piano lesson.  Afterwards, I needed to turn on the heater, again, because I felt cold.  Dancer and I have made the move from the family room to the living room (where the main, wall heater is located)!  It is our winter quarters!  My chair is directly in front of the heater and his towel is on the floor, between the heater and my chair!  The only problem with that is I can't watch TV as that is in the family room!

It has been another, relatively quiet day.  I spoke on the phone with friend R and video chatted with my daughter.  There is a big question mark if she'll be able to come down for Thanksgiving, after all, because the friend who offered her a ride has been exposed to this dreaded virus and has tested positive.  It will be well past the 14 day period if they do decide to drive down, but, we shall see how things stand, closer to the day.

Today, I am grateful for:

- Daughter's friend's illness has been mild

- Friend was diagnosed before the trip down and not afterwards

- A working heater

- Sunny afternoons

- Piano lessons

Today's joyful activity was walking in the sunshine in the garden.

Plans for tomorrow include some housework, watering the garden, and paperwork.

How was your day?  What are your plans for tomorrow?

  1. I spent Monday making Christmas cards. Now the whole house is a tip - I began diecutting and punching at the dining table, then moved to the sofa where I sat sticking pictures onto cards. This has left a trail of punched holes like wedding confetti all though the house, and curly strips of peeled paper from the double sided tape. But 75 cards are done. I shall spend the day getting things back into order. Grateful that lockdown means nobody is coming into my house!

    1. Oh, wow! 75 cards! You were very busy! I don't send out a lot of cards, usually, but, I might, this year, because I won't be seeing anyone at Christmas and New Year's. Have fun putting things back in order. :)

  2. Let's hope that your daughter's friend continues with mild symptoms & yes it is good that she was diagnosed before traveling. Can the heater or the TV be moved so that they can bring you joy & warmth in the same location?

    1. Thank you, Mary Lou; yes, we will wait and see how things turn out. Well, the heater is a wall unit (natural gas), so it can't be moved. The TV might be able to be moved, but we might need a longer cable wire. I do have an electric space heater in the family room and a crocheted blanket on the sofa...

  3. Maybe you need to get a little space heater for the family room for those cold winter days so you can watch TV if you want.

    1. I do have a space heater in the family room and I have a crocheted blanket on the sofa. I just need to get over this mentality that, if I have the big heater on, then, I should be seated right in front of it! :D

  4. These are the days of switching the heat on and off. I don't want to complain though, because soon enough we shall need the heat all the time. This week I need to remember to walk in the sunshine as well, but there seems so many little inside chores that I forget until evening that I haven't even been out. Glad you were able to enjoy the garden.

    1. I generally turn the heater off during the day. But, is has to be on in the evenings, because I feel cold, easily. I am trying to make it a habit to go outside and walk or, at least, be in the sunshine for 20-30 minutes, especially during the winter. I am hoping it will help with the insomnia!

  5. That's a shame there's uncertainty hanging over your daughter's visit. I hope her friend recovers with no lasting problems, and maybe it'll all work out and they can still get home.

Don't you have a TV socket in the living room or a suitable extension cable so you could ask M to move the TV for you. We used to move rooms during the winter in one of my childhood homes. Everyone had their specific responsibilities on moving day - mine was the table lamps, my eldest brother moved the TV, but I can't remember what my other brother and my sister did. Mum and Dad moved the big sofa so, together with the seating already in the winter room, there was somewhere for everyone to sit.

    1. Thank you, Eileen; we are keeping our fingers crossed that my daughter will still be able to come home for the holidays. If not for Thanksgiving, then, maybe for Christmas and the New Year.

A long time ago, when the TV was connected to an aerial, I had a long enough cord for it to be moved around, but, when I got cable, they put in a shorter cord. It's OK; I can switch on the electric space heater in the family room, if needed. It's just that the living room is the warmest room when the heater is on. I probably should have put in a second heater in the family room when I had it built, but, I didn't have the funds to do so, at the time.

  6. Winter is the same for us here in Florida. It get's down to 60 or below I consider it "freezing" lol. I hope your daughter will be able to make the trip to see you for Thanksgiving!

    1. We get spoiled living where we do, don't we? I spent a few years in Wisconsin, attending university, and used to laugh when I'd come down to California over the winter breaks, because it would feel so warm! Now, I am freezing when it is below 70F!

Thank you, Martha. We shall see how it all turns out.

Hope you are safe from the hurricane!

  8. It isn't fun to be cold. The other day it wasn't at all cold in the house, about 71°F, but for some reason I felt like my legs were blocks of ice. I figured that my circulation needed some help and going for a walk did make some difference.

Yesterday when the sun was down, I just checked outside and two squirrels came along for last minute peanuts! As far as the birds are concerned, they are on short rations as there is a complete lack of bags of black oil sunflower seeds and I have been partly filling the feeders. Today I bought some mixed seed from the few bags available in the store and I will see just how hungry they really are or if they turn their little beaks up at it!

    1. I think poor circulation probably has a lot to do with my feeling cold. I need to move around a bit more!

Oh, lucky squirrels! Can't blame the birds for wanting to get the best seeds available, but, hopefully, they'll accept the mixed seeds, too. I just watched a hummingbird visit my hibiscus flowers. It visited each flower and then, flew away.

  9. Oh, that's too bad about her friend and the virus. Thank God you found out now, before you were exposed. I'm afraid it is going to spread rapidly at Holiday gatherings. I have been turning on my heat, too.

    1. Thank you, Stephenie. Yes, thank goodness we found out before rather than after. If she can't come home for Thanksgiving, there's a possibility she can visit over Christmas and New Year.

I imagine you need to have the heat on, especially at the cabin. Stay warm and safe. :)

    1. Thank you, Sharon. It would be lovely if she can come down for a visit, but, only if it is safe to do so. Perhaps for Christmas.
In the meantime, we can "visit" online. :)

    1. The past couple of days have been warm and I moved back to the family room! LOL. The sofas in the family room are more comfortable. But, I'll be moving back to the living room later this week!

Thank you, but, so far, it doesn't look like she'll be able to visit for Thanksgiving. But, hopefully, she can come down for Christmas. :)
