Quiet Wednesday

Today has been a relatively quiet day.  I slept with the heater on, last night, and the house was nice and warm when I woke up.  Later, it turned out to be a nice, warm day, so I was able to open the windows and air out the house.  But, once the sun sets, it starts getting chilly, again.

I seem to have lost my motivation to do any cleaning, but, I managed to change my bed sheets and the sofa dust covers and do two loads of laundry.  I also washed the dishes, cleared the kitchen counters, wiped the stove top, watered the indoor plants, and tidied the family room.

I also went through the mail and grocery ads.  One store is having skinless, boneless chicken breasts on sale for $.99/lb. on Tuesday (1 day sale).  I think that is a very good price and will stock up on them.  Another store is having daughter's favorite coffee on sale, again, for $4.99.  I'm glad I didn't buy any when it went on sale for $6.49, last week.  $4.99 is my stock up price for her coffee.

Daughter will be coming down, tomorrow afternoon, for a visit over the Thanksgiving holidays.  I am looking forward to her visit.

Today, I am grateful for:
- A sunny, warm day
- Being able to sleep in
- Phone calls from family and friends
- A freshly made bed
- What I was able to accomplish, today

How was your Wednesday?  How do you motivate yourself to do housework and cleaning when you seem to have lost your motivation to deep clean?

  1. How lovely that your daughter is visiting again - I hope you have a lovely time together.

I can't sleep in a warm house so the heating is off through the night and comes on about 30 minutes before I get up. I get a migraine type headache if I sleep in a heated room.

    1. I am looking forward to her visit, Eileen. I know that she is, too. :)

That's interesting about how we all differ when it comes to keeping our homes warm and sleeping in a cool room or heated room, isn't it? I don't have a programmable thermostat, just a manual one; I turned it on for a short while, last night, before I went to bed, and turned it off, again. Then, I woke up around 6:00 a.m. and debated whether to turn it back on or not, but decided not to, and went back to sleep! When I woke up, later, it was mid-morning, and the air outside was warmer than the air inside, so I opened the windows to warm up the house!

  2. It's not surprising that you are not motivated to clean because you did so much cleaning before your gathering that your house is probably still really clean. Enjoy your daughter's visit.

    1. Yes, I guess I am sort of "resting on my laurels", when it comes to cleaning! But, there are all those deep cleaning tasks I didn't get around to doing, before the prayer gathering, that still need to be done! Sometimes, when the pressure is off, I tend to let things go!

Daughter called this morning and said half her suitcase is packed with stuff she's bringing down for me! :D She found raw whole cashews at a cheaper price up there, than down here, so she bought 4 packages for me and there are the 6 scarves she bought and the 4 bottles of almond extract, plus, some empty canning jars! :D She's only bringing her carry on luggage, so it's not a big suitcase.

  3. You did a very thorough deep clean before the prayer gathering and will probably do another mini round before the almsgiving. I feel you are good until January. I also think you are doing well with maintaining your cleaning schedule. I need to deep clean before I put out any Christmas decorations, so I work best under deadlines. Also, I will crank out some tunes (either Xmas songs, or peppy rock music)

I have a feeling you will be run off your feet "shopping" when your daughter arrives. Save your energy.

    1. Thank you, Susan; I think I, too, work best under deadlines, when the pressure is on! But, yes, I will be cleaning again, before the almsgiving! It's just that I didn't get my cleaning list completed before the prayer gathering, so all those things I skipped doing, such as cleaning the light fixtures and the sliding glass door, are bothering me!

Ha, ha, you are right! We have several shopping trips, planned! :D

  4. I'm trying to get ready for daughter's visit. Feeling a little down as it's snowing again. I am so not ready for this. Sigh. That's a really good price on the chicken breasts.

    1. I'm sorry it is snowing again, Sharon. But think how happy Shasta will be to be running around in that snow! I know you will enjoy having your daughter home with you for the holidays. (((HUGS)))

  5. My problem is that I can't relax when I don't do the weekly cleaning. So that motivates me .. most of the time. :)

You must be so excited to have your daughter for the Thanksgiving week. Are you going to do anything special?

    1. I have a cousin who has to clean every Saturday, Nil. She says the same thing as you - can't relax if the weekly cleaning isn't done! I am afraid I am not very disciplined when it comes to weekly cleaning!

We haven't planned anything special, Nil. She will be getting together with some of her friends and we will attend a couple of family get togethers. The rest of the time, we'll just "hang out", as they say. Some shopping, a meal or two out, and just relax.

  7. Daughters are one of life's joys. How lovely that she is coming to yours'. When I lived alone, because I hate clutter, it was so quick and easy to clean. And nice. Now I live with a family member who has 'stuff' put out everywhere and I get overwhelmed looking at all the tidying up which I seem to do for both of us, and all I can see is ornaments and trinkets which need cleaning. My motivation to clean is not happening now but still I must do it.

    1. I can honestly say that my daughter is both a joy and a blessing to me, Ratnamurti. :)

I am guilty of having lots of ornaments and trinkets, I'm afraid. A lot of them have sentimental value to me. I'm trying to declutter, but it isn't easy for me.

  8. I think you got a reasonable amount of work done! The rest can wait, you have my permission to hold off for a while. Have a lovely visit with your daughter. You will soon forget that you didn't get any more deep cleaning done!

It was really cold last night, around 15°F, but the furnace kept us warm. We were up to around 22°F this afternoon and I bundled up and went for a long walk down by the river where some reeds in the water had little globes of ice around the stems, so pretty. It took me a while to thaw out when I got home, though. I should have put on some warmer pants or liners under the ones I was wearing.

    1. Thank you, Bushlady! Yes, I think I'll take a short holiday from the deep cleaning while my daughter is home. There will be time to clean once she's gone. And then, it can count towards cleaning for the almsgiving, as well. :)

I am glad the furnace kept you warm! Yes, please do dress warmly and wrap up well when you go out in such cold weather!
