Rest on Sunday

"Rest on Sunday" says the old rhyme.  I spent a restful morning, having coffee, replying to blog comments, visiting one or two other blogs, playing a game or two of sudoku, etc.

In the afternoon, I decided to do a load of laundry, because, even though I had intended to laundry on Monday, I had enough of lights for a load, I had the time, the weather was good for them to dry quickly, and doing a load of laundry always makes me feel I've been productive!  I actually did two loads of laundry!  The laundry basket is empty now, so, tomorrow, I will wash the sofa dust covers.

Then, I organized my closet.  I generally hang all the same type of garments together - all the blouses together, all the skirts together, etc.  Within each group, the items are arranged by color, with all the white blouses together, all the black blouses together, and so forth.  Recently, however, that order got disrupted as I just put back items without taking the time to sort them by type and color.  The side of the closet to my left when I stand in front of it, has all the formal/evening wear and most of the pairs of pants and skirts; the side to my right has coats, jackets, cardigans, blouses and dresses.  I was able to declutter a few items to put aside for donations.

Later, I did a little sewing and watered the front garden, including the new plants.  They were looking a bit wilted, but, hopefully, they'll perk up after the watering.

My aunt T called in the evening and, later, I called friends A and R to check on them.

My daughter sent me more of her planner doodles (she corrected me and said it was a planner, not a journal or an appointment book!):

More Doodles in Japanese and English
Friday's doodle says, "tsukareta", which means "I'm tired", Saturday's doodle says, "nanimo shitakunai", meaning "I don't want to do anything", and Sunday's doodle is about the pizza she made.  Yes, she knows Japanese - that was her minor in undergrad.

She bought refrigerated pizza dough on Saturday and made the pizza with spinach pesto:

Toppings of her choice - pepperoni, mushrooms, onion, spinach, mozzarella, and sausage:

The baked pizza:

Makes me want pizza!

Later, daughter and I video chatted.  She has started crocheting herself a scarf, so she was crocheting while we chatted and I was knitting one of the red hats for the Heart Association!  We had our own crochet/knitting group going!  She said the library there, too, has a knitting group that meets once a month, for two hours, on a Saturday evening.  She said she made a note of it in her calendar and she's considering going.  It's at the downtown library branch, which is a bus ride away, not in the branch that is across the street from her apartment, which would have been more convenient.

Today, I am grateful for:
- A relaxed, restful day
- Washing machines
- Being able to air dry the laundry
- Time in which to sew
- Video chatting with my daughter

  1. I have a similar system to you for organising my wardrobe. I keep the same type of garments together organised by colour. Looking at it from the left it's dresses, skirts, trousers, then tops. Cardigans are on the shelf above the hanging rail, then jackets and coats are kept in a different cupboard. Well done for having a bit of a sort out. Do you feel better for having done that?

Your daughter is a very talented young woman, you must be very proud of her.

    1. Eileen, it's a bit scary how alike we are in some ways! Yes, I feel better; the state of the closet was getting me down!

I am a bit biased, you understand, but yes, I am very proud of my daughter. :D

  2. I feel the same way about laundry. If I do nothing else all day, I feel like I have accomplished something with the laundry done up. And if you don't have to use the dryer, even better. Great job organizing your closet. I now have two closets...one where I keep all of my summer clothes, and the other where I hang my winter wardrobe. With temperatures this weekend hovering around 9 C degrees, guess which closet I took my clothes from this morning? I am back in jeans.

Daughter's pizza looks yummy and probably tastes much better than take-out. She is frugal minded like her mother.

    1. Wow, that's quite a change in the temperature, isn't it? Weren't you at 29C, last week, when you were out, weeding? I keep my sweaters in a chest of drawers, but the majority of my clothes are year-round. I am now going through the closet, trying to decide what I should keep and what I should donate, now that I am retired.

Her pizza is probably healthier than what one can buy, with all that spinach! Yes, she is frugal minded, like me. I'm glad, because, otherwise, there might have been some conflict! :D

  3. Congratulations on a restful Sunday (even though you did laundry)

  4. Your daughter should go to her local branch and ask about starting a knitting group there. I bet there are others in the area who would be interested.

    1. That's what I told her! The branch across the street from her is the newest branch and, according to my daughter, they have fewer activities than the more established main library, downtown. I will tell her that you suggested it, too. :)

  5. A creative and clever daughter and the pizza she's made looks delicious. Amy is off to University on Wednesday. Today we went shopping for basics for her store cupboard and a few food items to get her through the first few days. There are things everywhere at the moment. Tomorrow we will have to pull it all together and pack. It's an odd feeling knowing she's moving out but she seems excited, if a little nervous. xx

    1. Oh, wish Amy the best from me, please! I remember when my daughter went away and how excited and nervous we both were! She will love it, I'm sure, and you and Thomas will miss her!

  6. How nice to have an online crochet/knitting group. :)
Your daughter is very creative just like her mom. Maybe she can start a knitting group at the nearby library? I'm sure there are others who would prefer meeting there.

    1. We often work on our projects while we video chat! She is hesitant to suggest the library near her start a knitting group because she doesn't know if she'll feel like going to one on a particular given day and would feel obligated to attend one if she is responsible for starting it! She generally watches videos while she works on her various projects or listens to music, etc. She's a bit of an introvert, if you haven't guessed.
