Sunny Sunday!

On Sunday, we had sunshine and clear blue skies.

Dancer enjoying the sunshine

Daughter woke up early and went out to breakfast with one of her friends.  I slept in and woke up after she had left.

My neighbor T called around 11:30 a.m. and we had our usual Sunday morning chat.  I called friend R and left a message; she called back, later, and we chatted a bit.

Shortly after noon, daughter and I decided to go shopping!  She wanted to get some felt and fabric glue from the craft store and I wanted to get some kitty litter before she left, because I can't carry those heavy buckets of litter, still.

When we were at the crafts supplies store, I saw some yarn on sale (50% off!) and couldn't resist:

Soft Yarn
Well, I tried to resist, but daughter urged me to buy them and when I couldn't decide between the two colors, she encouraged me to buy both!  They were originally priced $7.99 but on sale for $4.00 each.  The yarn is acylic and each skein is  7 oz.and 350 yards (200g/320m) according to the label.  I bought 3 skeins of each color.  It's probably more than what I need for sweaters, but I didn't want to run short of yarn; any extra yarn can be used for scarves and other items.

In the afternoon, after we came home from our shopping and had lunch, daughter took a nap and I started to knit:

New sweater in the making
I haven't finished knitting the grey wool sweater, yet, but I was eager to see how this yarn worked up.  I think a plain knit (stockinette stitch) sweater with minimal detailing would be best with the color changes in the yarn, don't you?  I did the ribbing (knit 1 purl 1) with US size 6 needles and am doing the body with US size 8 needles.

Later, we watched the Academy Awards show and I sewed two cushion covers for daughter to take back with her; the fabric is what she bought on her last visit home at Christmas:

Harry Potter Themed Cushion Cover

They are both sewn in the envelope style, with a flap instead of a zipper:

Avengers Themed Cushion Cover
I inserted one of my cushions to show how it looks; daughter will take only the covers and use the cushion inserts she has up there with her.

She also sewed a cushion cover with some fleece that she will decorate and give as a gift to one of her friends as a birthday gift.  She picked out 26 assorted buttons from my button box to attach to that cushion cover as part of the decorations!

Today, I am grateful for:
- A sunny day
- Neighbor T calling to check on me
- Going shopping with daughter
- Yarn on sale!
- Being able to sew the two cushion covers for her

Daughter also applied the monthly flea medicine on Dancer, so that is done for another month.

Daughter will leave tomorrow.  Her flight is in the afternoon, so we'll spend a quiet morning together, then, I'll drop her off at the airport, and come home to do some knitting and maybe some sewing too.

Monday's To Do List:
- Take daughter to the airport
- Do the dishes
- Do some tidying
- Do a load of laundry

How was your Sunday?  If you knit or crochet, would you have bought yarn because it was on sale, even if you haven't finished an earlier project?

  2. I think the new yarn is knitting up very nicely. I'd like to see a picture of your daughter's decorated pillow cover when she's finished. It sounds like a lot of fun with all of those buttons.

    1. I will ask her to send me a picture when she's done, Live and Learn. She wants me to wait until she actually gives the gift a little later in the month, before I post a picture of it. Her friend doesn't read my blog, but she doesn't want any pictures floating around on the internet before it is given. :)

  3. I like the way your yarn is knitting up. It has been a very long time since I knitted anything. Perhaps time to give it another go.

We had quite a lot of rain last night and off and on today. It is in the 40s and the air has that damp feel. I have made a big pot of beef/vegetable soup. We will have several meals from this.

Be careful to not lift anything. If needed have the store load into your car and then have either your neighbor or gardener friend unload.

    1. Sandy, why not give the knitting a try? If you buy a multi-colored yarn like I did, you don't really need to worry about any patterns as the yarn makes a pattern on its own. Perhaps knit a scarf or something so it will be fairly quick and easy. I find knitting to be relaxing.

Beef and vegetable soup sounds good on a rainy day.

Yes, I'm being careful with the lifting. Daughter helped with the heavy items and the buckets of litter are in my bathroom, now. I use a plastic bowl to carry a scoop or two as needed to add to the litter box. We bought a new type of litter (much cheaper than what we used to buy) to try it out - I'll add it little by little to the old litter to see if Dancer will take to it. If not, I'll donate it to the shelter, I guess.

Hope you have a lovely day, Sandy.

  4. That yarn looks lovely. You're a fast knitter!
I hope your daughter has a safe flight. I know how glad you were to have her around - sounds like a lovely young woman. Take care of yourself!

    1. Thank you, Sharon. Yes, she had a safe flight back. I like to think she's grown to be a loving, caring young woman with a good head on her shoulders, but then, I might be a touch biased! :D I hope you are having a good week and all is well with you.

  5. I love the way your yarn knits up. The colours are great. It was a good deal for such lovely yarn and your daughter was right to insist that it was too good to pass up. I have become ruthless about not buying yarn, so it was an eyeopener for me when I saw my friend's yarn stash. I don't think I have ever seen so much yarn outside a store! But I do understand her love of yarn and she knits far more than I do.
I got busy with the fluffy duster today, upstairs and downstairs. I wouldn't have mentioned it but I am not a daily duster by any means! 😀 I've also been doing laundry, and one task, after I had come in from a trip to town, was to wash my light beige winter jacket, first spot treating some grubby patches with a toothbrush and homemade stain cleaner. It washed well as usual and I shall resume wearing it tomorrow.

    1. Bushlady, I used to buy yarn just because it was on sale and I knew I'd knit it up, someday! Eventually, I had to put myself on a yarn diet! I said no more buying yarn until I finished what I had/unless it was really needed for a particular project. I have been pretty good about not buying more yarn and I have finished most of the stash! I do have some leftover bits and pieces; one day, I will knit or crochet it all up into a blanket - I have been making granny squares with some of them and the collection is growing!

Sounds like you've been busy! Glad to hear that your winter jacket washed up well and you will be able to wear it, tomorrow. It hasn't been cold enough, this winter to wear my big, all wool winter jacket! One of the benefits of having underground parking in my office building! I no longer have to walk outside to get to and from the parking lot to the office!
