Wednesday: Love, Ashes, and Bullets

It rained a little, early this morning!  It had ceased by the time I woke up and got ready to go to the office, but I'll take whatever rain I can get!

I had another somewhat disturbed night, last night, but had a good day, overall.  I had a fairly productive day at the office.  After I came home, I had a cup of tea, watered the indoor plants, spoke with my daughter, called my aunt C, spoke with friend R who called, played the piano for a bit, and watched Olympics coverage.

Nathalie sent me a link to a site for coupons for cat food - thank you, Nathalie!  The stray cats thank you, too.

I was sad to hear about the shooting in the Florida high school.  I read that this is the 18th school shooting, so far in 2018!  We are barely mid-way through February!

Today, I am grateful for:
- The little rain we received
- A productive day at the office
- Nathalie sending me a link to the coupon site
- Talking on the phone with family and friends
- Emails from friends

How was your Wednesday?  Did you celebrate St. Valentine's Day?  Did you observe Ash Wednesday?

  1. The school shootings are horrific. I think the only long term solution is to focus more on mental health so kids/people don't think this is the only way to get relief from whatever drives them to do this.

    1. I don't know what the answer is, Live and Learn. I just find it very sad.

  2. Disturbed nights are certainly no fun. So many of us suffer with sleep problems. I don't have any sage advice but hope this passes quickly and you are back to sleeping well and no bad dreams.

How kind that Nathalie send you a link to cat food coupons because you do spend quite a lot on the stray cats

Valentine's Day came and went. Today which is my big shop day I purchased hubby a bag of M&M's Caramel marked down from $3.99 to $1.99 - there was a huge amount of candy to choose from, all reduced. The bag I purchased has a best before Oct 22 - although I took advantage of the mark down I do think as a society how incredibly wasteful we have become.

Yes we observe Ash Wednesday - services offered at noon and 6:30 pm

    1. Thank you, Sandy. I think I've been trying too hard to get to bed at a decent time and it was stressing me out! LOL! Last night, I broke all the rules, had a late night snack, stayed up till 2:30 a.m. and then, slept till the alarm went off. And, guess what? Woke up feeling just fine! If I had any dreams, I don't remember them!

Yes, I am that crazy cat lady! I've had a couple of stray dogs follow me home, too! There are possums and raccoons, too, who come to my back door, hoping to find some leftover cat food!

I'm sure your husband appreciated the bag of candy (h, and I'm glad that you were able to take advantage of the mark down. Yes, we have become a very wasteful society, haven't we? Tossing things out the minute the holiday is over. But, I guess that's what keeps the economy going!

  3. 18th school shooting in 2018 alone?! I'm speechless.

I'm glad you were able to print the coupons!

    1. Nathalie, they've clarified it a little bit to say it was the 18th shooting on school property (apparently includes a couple of shootings in parking lots, and accidental shots) so far in 2018.

Thank you, again, for the coupon link. :)

  4. Sorry to hear that you had another disturbed night. If only we could all sleep soundly and wake up like brand new creatures! At least your day went well again in spite of it.

It was a shock to hear of yet another school shooting. How tragic a loss of so many young lives.

I sent a Valentine card and an e-card to granddaughter, but sending her a package got delayed as I was still working on an applique cat on an apron I wanted to include. She will enjoy her mail delivery later.
I did go to an Ash Wednesday mass, it was a school mass and there is a choir of little ones who sing with great enthusiasm! Today I did some artwork with a friend of mine in the afternoon.

    1. Thanks, Bushlady; last night was better. :) I'm sure your granddaughter enjoyed her cards and, no doubt, the package, when it arrives will be much appreciated, as well. The cat apron sounds lovely. Spending an afternoon doing artwork with a friend sounds like fun!

  6. I did not celebrate Ash Wednesday. I haven't gone to mass in years, I'm afraid. I had a falling out with the Catholic Church during my University years. Later I went to Church with my Protestant husband until I had a falling out with them too. There seems to be a common denominator here.
I didn't celebrate Shrove Tuesday either because of the new diet, but I did go to dinner at my son's place on Valentine's Day. That was lovely.

    1. Susan, I am glad you had a lovely dinner at your son's place on Valentine's Day. Too often, the practices in many religions don't match the theory and the excuses they provide for the discrepancies don't stand up to scrutiny. I think that what is important is that we live in a manner that treats others well, with kindness and compassion.
