Friday: A Water Conserving Garden

On Friday, I watered the back garden in the morning before going to the office.  Ha, ha, that's a fancy way of saying I turned the sprinklers on while I had my coffee and got dressed!

I took a longer (1 hour) than usual (30 minutes) lunch break because I needed to go and pay my municipal services bill (electricity, water, sewage, trash collection), which I prefer to pay in person.  I wondered if I'd be up to walking uphill to the payment center, but decided I wasn't quite there, yet.  Instead, I paid 50cents and rode the shuttle bus.  My plan was to walk back to the office after I paid the bill, as it was a walk going downhill.

It was a bit of a hazy day, but I took a picture of the downtown skyline:

Paying the bill took only a few minutes.  Afterwards, I set off on my walk.  But first, I lingered to look at the display garden showcasing water conserving landscaping:

It looks a bit like my front garden, doesn't it?  I am starting to think that all I really need for my front garden is a truckload of pebbles to cover the bare ground and maybe put a path!

The garden continued on the other side of the walkway:

There was a poster describing the plants in the garden:

After that, I set off on my walk back to the office.  But, I had another stop planned.

Stairway to ???
The walk back to the office goes past these steps and that's where I was headed.  But that is for another post!

Steps to show the slope
I took this picture of the steps to the courthouse to show the slop of the road.  They are, admittedly, shallow steps, but the right side is at level with the pavement, while the left side is much lower.

I spent the evening watching the Winter Olympics opening ceremonies and chatting with my daughter.

Today, I am grateful for:
- Being able to take a longer lunch break
- Being able to pay my bills
- Another sunny and warm day
- Being able to watch the coverage of the opening ceremony
- Video chatting with daughter

Plans for the weekend include doing some grocery shopping, cooking, cleaning, some other shopping, and visiting the cemetery.

How was your Friday?  What are your plans for the weekend?

  1. The garden on the other side of the wall is nice, perhaps I like it better because of the winding green strip.

Glad you got your municipal bill paid. Are there other locations that accept payment and why do you prefer to pay in person?

    1. Sandy, I, too, prefer the lusher looking section. More like what I would consider a garden.

Yes, there are other locations to pay the bill and one could mail it in or pay it over the phone or online. I used to pay it by mail, but then, I got into the habit of paying it in person - I like getting the receipt immediately and knowing it got credited, right away. The one time I tried paying over the phone, it didn't go through properly, even though I received a confirmation number! When I was undergoing treatment, daughter helped by paying the bills online, for me, but I haven't been brave enough to do so, myself! :D

  2. The Mediterranean style garden looks lovely. Maybe it is something to consider. Not here, however. There is no shortage of water today! X

    1. Yes, I prefer the Mediterranean side, myself. Need to show the pictures to my gardener friend and see what we can come up with. Sorry you are having such an abundance of water! :D

  3. Sounds like you have booked your weekend solid with lots of chores and not much relaxation. I hope there is room in there to do some things you love.

    1. Yes, Susan, I am spending Saturday morning, relaxing. :) I am watching some sewing shows on TV and replying to blog comments. Hope you are having a relaxed weekend, yourself.

  4. I pretty much pay everything online, it's really not bad at all. I copy every confirmation number next to the payment in my spreadsheet so if there's a problem, I can refer to it. I've never ever had any problems. But I don't automate a lot of payments. I'd rather pay as many bills manually so I can catch a mistake before it hits my checking account. Again, though, it's extremely rare that I've found any mistake.

I love all the views you share with us. Thanks for taking the time to take pictures on your walk!

    1. I suppose I don't like leaving an electronic trail...what with all the data breaches and all.

      You are welcome. :)
