Root Canal Thursday

Thursday was the day when my root canal was completed.

My day got off to a relatively early start when my aunt's phone call woke me up around 7:00 a.m.  She and my cousin are back from France.  She said she and cousin wanted to visit me tonight but I reminded her that I had my dental appointment and root canal, today; we agreed that it would be better if they visited on Friday evening, instead.

Today, I swept and mopped the kitchen floor, right after I had my morning tea!  Then, I went to the office.  I didn't go to the farmers market, today, and I left the office at 2:30 p.m.  I came home at 3:30 p.m and I had 15 minutes before I needed to leave for my dental appointment.  I called my sister to find out the plans for Saturday (her daughter is coming down this weekend and wanted to see me); we agreed we'll meet for lunch at an Indian restaurant close to my house, as she didn't want me to drive out to her neighborhood by myself (she lives more than an hour's drive away).  I appreciate her consideration.

Then, I went to the dental appointment.  It went OK, but it took almost 2 hours!  This time, everyone made sure to ask me how I was doing, every so often!  I guess they were worried I might have another crying fit! The root canal was completed, but I was in pain, afterwards.  I made the next appointment, for the last tooth extraction, for September.

I stopped by the small Armenian grocery store, in the same strip mall as the dental clinic, to buy more of their bread, grapes, and blackberries.

August 18 Groceries
I bought:
1 loaf bread = $1.50
grapes @$.99/lb = $1.49
12 oz. blackberries = $.99
Total = $3.98

Amount spent on groceries in August = $19.25 + $3.98 = $23.23

When I came home, I was greeted by this little guy who was hanging out on my wall:

Garden Lizzard
He was shy - as soon as I took the picture, he ran behind the euphorbia plant that is barely visible in the picture and hid from me!

I took one of the prescription strength ibuprofen, spoke on the phone with my daughter who called, and with my aunt who called to check on me, and took a nap for 2 1/2 hours, while I waited for the ibuprofen to kick in!

Later,  I was able to eat some of the bread with fish curry, a banana and grapes for my dinner.  Still later, I had a video chat with my daughter.

Today, I am grateful for:
- Aunt and cousin returned safely from their trip
- My root canal has been completed
- Prescription strength ibuprofen
- Naps on the sofa
- My favorite bread

    1. Yes, it is, thank you, Live and Learn. Much better. The dentist said the pain might last for about three days, that it was normal, but I think, after today, it should be fine. I haven't tried eating from that side, yet - I'll wait another day or two to try that!

  2. Awww, Bless, you didn't cry! YAY! I'm sorry you were in pain, hopefully the ibuprofen worked fast. My dentist told me to take (regular) ibuprofen right before coming to my deep cleaning appointment because I'll be getting crowns too that day and the whole thing will take 4 hours so he said I'd get cramps in my mouth if I don't take it. I appreciated the advance warning and also made sure to ask if I'll be able to take potty breaks because there is no way I'll be able to wait that long, ha.

Glad your family made it back from France OK. It seems like a very short trip. Did they go anywhere else than Lourdes? How did they like it?

I like your little lizard, it looks different from the lizards (anoles) that we have here in our garden.

I hope you're not in pain today. Have a great Friday!

    1. No, I didn't cry! Although, when the dentist said the tooth will now last me for years and years and I wondered if I'd live that long, I almost wanted to cry!

That's good that your dentist told you to take ibuprofen before your next appointment. Four hours is a long time! Yes, bathroom breaks will be important!

My aunt and cousin went on a 4-day pilgrimage to Lourdes. They do this every year, or every couple of years. No, I don't think they went anywhere else.

The lizard, from what I can tell, is a Western Fence Lizard, although I wasn't able to see if it had a blue underside (identifying mark).

The pain is much better, this morning, thank you. I might take one more ibuprofen, today, and that should be enough.

  3. You certainly got a great deal accomplished and best of all you are done with the root canal.

"Have gardener friend mow back yard" - you have done well to keep your Kwan growing with so much heat.

Wednesday about 6:45 pm we had a violent thunder storm and lost power for almost 4 hours! It was so hot and stuffy.

Son and hubby have gone off on a trip North close to where hubby grew up. They will return Sunday and son flues home on Monday. We won't see him again until Thanksgiving.

I have lost track of the frequent times I went to the supermarket. Often son wasn't here to eat dinner but of course I always wanted to be prepared. Expect it is the same when your daughter comes home.

    1. Thank you, Sandy. I am happy to know that the dental work is nearing an end.

Four hours is a long time to be without power! But nothing in your fridge or freezer would have spoiled, so that is good. I hope your husband and son have a safe trip North and back. You will miss your son when he leaves, but then, you get to look forward to having him home again at Thanksgiving. Is this the son who lives somewhere on the west coast?

    2. Kwan - auto correct! guess you worked out I meant grass. We will go out to see our son over Thanksgiving and yes he lives in San Diego. You have a good memory.

    3. LOL, yes, I figured you meant grass! It's, actually, more a mixture of grass and weeds, but I don't mind - it looks green! Oh, that's nice that you'll be visiting son in San Diego. It's been several years since I visited San Diego, but it is a nice city. Have you been there, before? Will you have time to take in some of the sights? Will your daughter and her children join you, or will it be just you and your husband? (Feel free to tell me to mind my own business! :D )

  4. Glad that's over with! Hope it doesn't bother you too long

  5. It must be a relief to have your root canal over and done with and wise to put off your Aunt's visit until tomorrow. Is this the same Aunt who you were singing and playing the piano with? X

    1. Yes, it is, Jules! Just one more extraction to go and I should be fine for awhile!

Yes, it is the same aunt; Aunt C and cousin N. :) Cousin N is actually a second cousin - her father and my father were first cousins (two sisters' children). But, according to our customs, we rarely make a distinction between first and second cousins and my cousin actually addresses me by the term which means "older sister" (I am almost 4 months older than she) and I address her as "younger sister". :)

    1. Thank you, Judy. One more major dental procedure and then, I can sigh in relief!

Brother is not doing too well. I spoke with sister-in-law again, today. I think, based on what she had to say, it's a matter of time.
