If Only

Aren't those among some of the saddest words in the English language?

I've been in a bit of a pensive mood lately and indulging in a lot of "if only"s. Not at all productive, I'll be the first the acknowledge; in fact, it can be downright counterproductive.

Regrets can never undo what has already happened. And there's never any guarantee that the outcome would have been any different, even if things had been done differently. I know all that.

Yet, it doesn't stop me from sitting at dusk, thinking, "If only..."

  1. Yes, that was sad. I do hope you aren't still haunted by if onlys. I don't think I have ever thought "If only", or really regretted anything major, but I do sometimes wonder (unemotionally) what I might have done differently for life to have worked out rather better. They say life must be lived forwards but can only be understood backwards. Well, I accept the first but I'm still waiting for the understanding! 🤔

    1. Oh, I like that - life must be lived forwards but only understood backwards. These days, I do try not to think of the if onlys. What happened, happened; I need to move on! Good luck with trying to understand! Somethings do make sense in hindsight, but, a lot of it probably never will!
