Baby, It's Cold Inside

Temperature in the Family Room at 11:30 a.m.

It might not be cold for some of you, but, that is cold for me!  I dressed in layers and wound a scarf around my neck, as well!  The house only warmed up to 60F, today.  I sat in the living room for most of the day as it felt a little warmer, there, with the afternoon sun shining through the big window.  I still haven't turned on the furnace as I am waiting for the gas company tech to do the safety inspection on Monday, but, I set up one of the electric space heaters near me in the family room, this evening, and switched it on.

I had a restful night of sleep, last night, and woke up feeling fine; no side effects from the booster, not even a sore arm!  It was a sunny and windy day; I walked outside, in the driveway, for only a few minutes as it was so windy and cold.  The rest of the time, I stayed indoors, doing some paperwork.

I also ordered some groceries to be picked up, tomorrow.  I haven't grocery shopped since the first week in October (other than the two packets of brownie mix I picked up, yesterday).

I ate the last waffle I had made earlier, with seeni sambol for brunch; dinner was the last of the milkrice, with the last of the fish curry and the last of the seeni sambol, followed a couple of hours later by the last of the soup I made, yesterday (I had some of it, last night, too, before going to sleep and it warmed me up, nicely).

Afterwards, I baked a pan of brownies using one of the brownie mixes I bought, yesterday.  I will take the brownies for Jennifer, when I go to pick up my groceries, tomorrow.  I hope she will be there!

Today, I am grateful for:

- No adverse side effects from the booster shot
- Space heaters
- Warm clothes for a cold day
- Crocheted blankets to cuddle up under when on the sofa
- Hot soup to warm me up

Today's joyful activity was baking brownies to share.

Plans for tomorrow include picking up the groceries.

How was your Thursday?  What are your plans for Friday?

  1. I agree that you house was cold yesterday! Are you going to have any warmups before Monday when you can turn on your heat?

    1. It was even colder this morning! Not much of a warm up before Monday - today's high will be 70F (it's 64F right now at 11:30 a.m.) and tonight's low will be 47F; tomorrow's high will be 71F and Sunday's high will be 68F. I'm wearing layers and will probably do a bit of baking tonight, too!

  2. I'd say that was cold! My living room was the same temperature first thing this morning and has only increased to 15ºC as I'm writing this at 4pm. I'm lovely and warm though, snuggled up in my oodie! I'm holding off turning on the heating for as long as possible.

I hope Jennifer is on duty so you can give her the brownies you're gifting to her. It's a lovely treat for her. You've done well if your last grocery pick up was at the beginning of October.

I'm glad you didn't have any side effects from your Covid booster. That's a positive!

Your avocado tree is looking good. How old does it need to be before it starts producing fruit?

I spent this morning chatting with M while she worked in the garden and this afternoon made a start of the freezer inventory, so just an ordinary day really.

    1. It was even colder, this morning! I'm all bundled up! Outside is warmer!
No Jennifer on duty, today, according to the store (I called them this morning). Oh, well, I'll see her again another time.
According to what I read, avocado trees grown from seed might take about 8 years to bear fruit and some won't bear fruit, at all! I'll just have to wait and see what happens!
Sounds like you're having a good day. Enjoy the rest of the day and keep warm in your oodie! :)

  3. That is too cold for me as well! I'm glad that you were able to wrap up warm and get the heater on. I find wrapping in layers comforting, so I don't mind that so much. So glad that you haven't had a reaction to the booster. It is absolutely worth getting and I'm glad that you're protected.

    1. Thank you, Lyssa; it was even colder, this morning! This hot house flower is getting frost bite! LOL. I'm pleasantly surprised that I haven't had any side effects to the booster, this time around. I'm glad I was able to get the booster and I feel better about going places as needed, now. Hope you are feeling better and bear is able to rest a bit over the weekend. :)

  4. I'm so glad that you had no side effects! It is chilly. Lucky the last few days here have been quite mild (at least for Michigan) so the heater hasn't been on. Hope you can get the furnace checked before another cold spell!

    1. Thank you, Sharon; I'm very relieved that I haven't had any side effects.
I'm glad the temperatures have been mild enough for you to have the heating turned off. I have the electric space heater on, right now and that helps. The furnace will be checked on Monday. :)

  5. That would be cold for me as well. I would be sitting under a blanket :)
It was kind of you to share the brownies. X

  6. As others have mentioned that wold be cold for me as well. And I see that it was even colder Friday morning. I'm so glad you have your little space heater. Those things do help, at least for the immediate area so it's nice you have one to get you through until Monday.
Time to work on a nice crochet blanket lol
Good job on the grocery shopping in October. You will have a nice credit balance to carry over (for stocking up sales??)
Ok - just so I'm understanding things here. No Jennifer means there is a batch of brownies sitting in your house waiting to get eaten?

    1. I'm glad to see that I am not the only one to think that 58F is cold! LOL. I don't feel so bad about feeling cold, then. :D The space heater is my friend!
Thank you, Debra. Yes, I do have a nice credit balance being carried over! I am saving that to replace items I use up from my pantry and freezer. For example, butter - the butter I bought on sale for $2.50/lb. is coming to an end and I will have to buy butter at the current price of $4.99/lb. which is double the price!
Ha, ha, yes, no Jennifer means there is a batch of brownies sitting on the kitchen counter, waiting to be shared! But, it's going fast and if you want a piece, you'd better hurry down! I offered some to neighbor S and to friend R; M enjoyed a couple of pieces when he was here, tending to the garden, yesterday, and I enjoyed a piece or two, myself. I have a couple of pieces tucked into the freezer for my daughter, as well. :)

  7. I'm sorry your house is so freezing cold! Anything below 70°F is not comfortable IMHO. I hope Monday's visit goes well and that you can turn on your heating. I guess Dancer is happy that he has a fur coat! Good that you didn't have side effects from the booster. A good idea to have some soup to warm you up before bedtime.
Yesterday I decided to get checked out and spent 4 1/2 hours in emergency, during which time I had x-rays done and a brief visit with a doctor in the end. Fortunately there is no fracture in the femur, it is really a case of letting the muscle heal. I was offered painkillers but I don't like the heavy stuff and I am taking a couple of regular Tylenol when needed. I got a pillow into the bed to rest my leg on last night and that helped.

    1. Thank you, Bushlady; your sympathy is much appreciated! I tend to feel cold easily, anyway, but, there is reason to feel cold when the house is cold! Dancer has his fur coat to keep him warm, but, his little paw pads are cold to the touch! I'm very thankful that I don't have any side effects from this booster! Hot drinks are warming, aren't they?
I'm glad you got yourself checked out and the x-rays showed there was no fracture. But, you must have really bruised your leg muscles and that can be quite painful, too. I'm glad the pillow for your leg helped. Sending lots of healing thoughts your way.
