Crocheted Baby Jacket |
The baby gifts my daughter crocheted for her friend's baby. They are the first clothing items my daughter has crocheted and I think she did a great job. She said her friend had requested a bigger size of clothing than new born, so she followed instructions for a 6 months size for the jacket. She said her gifts were well received.
Yesterday, after I posted, I did some mending, cooked a shrimp curry, watched a couple of online videos, and relaxed. My daughter called me around 4:00 p.m. to let me know that she had returned from her friend's baby shower and I went and picked her up from her friend A's apartment.
By the time we came home, the party next door was going full swing. Over the course of the evening, it got louder and louder until my whole house was vibrating! Around midnight, one of the other neighbors (I think the lady who lives in the house behind them) drove over and threatened to call the police on them! Then, the volume was turned down, but, the party went on till the wee hours of the morning. I'm not a big fan of mariachi music, but, during the band's breaks, they played some other music that I liked - remixed rock and roll ("Rock Around the Clock", "Jail House Rock", "Wake Up Little Susie"), swing ("In the Mood"), and country ("Achy Breaky Heart" in Spanish) and my daughter and I danced! LOL.
Dinner was rice, shrimp curry, leftover dhal, and leftover mallung.
It's a sunny and warmer day, today (with an afternoon high of 82F). It's Fathers' Day and Juneteenth. We are relaxing (or, at least, I am; my daughter is busy making melon pan, a type of Japanese sweet bread). Earlier in the afternoon, we walked around the garden and daughter admired the vegetable plants and the fruit trees.
I'm planning to cook hamburgers for tonight's dinner.
Today, I am grateful for:
- Whoever it was who told the neighbors to turn down their music!
- Pleasant sunny weather
- Plums from the garden
- Blissful quiet with only bird song to hear
- Having my daughter home
Today's joyful activity has been relaxing at home with my daughter.
No firm plans for tomorrow. I told myself I won't do any housework, this week, but, I might go ahead and do a load of laundry, tomorrow.
How is your Sunday coming along?
I think dancing to loud neighboring music is a grand solution! Having another neighbor be the bad guy requesting the music be turned down is just the icing on the cake!
ReplyDeleteI mean, if you have to listen to the music anyway, might as well dance to it, right? :D I am very grateful to the other neighbor who complained! I'm reluctant to make waves; I only complain when they block my driveway with their vehicles.
ReplyDeleteYour daughter definitely has inherited your gift of creating. Her card & baby clothes are SO adorable. Neighbours! but at least they got you & your daughter dancing :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Mary-Lou; the items she made turned out well, didn't they? Yes, we took advantage of the free music to dance! LOL.
DeleteI love the idea that you danced to the annoyingly loud music. I probably would have just grumbled and stayed in my chair. :)
ReplyDeleteGrumbling wouldn't have helped. It was definitely too loud, but, it did have a nice beat to it. :)
DeleteHow darling is that card and those crocheted items -- cute, cute!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Susanne. The parents-to-be are very into anime and they really liked the card and gifts. :)
DeleteI have visions of the two of you dancing the night away!
ReplyDeleteThe baby outfit your daughter made is amazing ... she is so clever. It's a shame we won't get to see the baby wearing it.
LOL, we didn't quite dance the night away, but, it was fun. :)
DeleteThe little outfit does look cute, doesn't it? Well, if we ever get a picture of the baby in the outfit, I'll ask the mother if I can post it! :D
I'm very impressed that you and your daughter danced to the neighbour's music with no need to accept an invitation to the party :-) Your daughter's card is very clever and the baby jacket and hat are wonderful. I crocheted a pink baby dress for my daughter, my first attempt at crocheting baby clothes and the more it was washed the dress became bigger and bigger What a bonus but I didn't buy cheap knitting wool after that :-)
ReplyDeleteLOL, a long time ago, when they first moved into the neighborhood, they used to invite me to their parties and, at first, I did accept to be polite and neighborly. But, then, I began to decline the invitations because I felt that accepting the invitations was akin to condoning their excessively loud music, and eventually, they stopped inviting me.
DeleteOh, you crocheted a magical dress that grew with the baby! LOL! Too funny! At least it didn't shrink with each wash! :)
Beautiful card and outfit.
ReplyDeleteI must admit that I would have been pretty annoyed about the music. I suppose if it's a one-off thing it wouldn't be too bad but I might think about reporting it if it was a regular occurrence.
One time the neighbours at the back of us kept playing loud music starting late at night. I thought about calling the non-emergency police, but somebody had already called and it didn't happen again. On a local online forum someone then said that the neighbour didn't realise it was that loud! We are talking really loud, booming loud and after midnight. Apparently they didn't think it would annoy the neighbours! My house isn't even that close and I could hear it.
Thank you, Sharon. These neighbors have these loud parties regularly, although they were fairly quiet during the lockdown period. The police don't seem to come out when the noise is reported in this part of town (not one of the high end neighborhoods) and I am not brave enough to confront them about the noise because I don't want any trouble. So, I tolerate it. :)
DeleteSuch a cute card and the hat and jacket are brilliant!
ReplyDeleteI hope you had some earplugs to wear while the party was going on. I don't understand the need for music to be so loud. At least you and your daughter had fun dancing to it and great that another neighbour saw fit to complain in the end. I love dancing, it's the only kind of aerobic exercise I like, and I often dance around the kitchen to the radio. Sometimes in a store when there is music with a beat, it is all I can do to contain myself!
Thank you, Bushlady.
DeleteNo, I didn't have any earplugs, but, I kept the windows closed. It helped a little bit, but the whole house was vibrating! I figured we might as well enjoy the music and dance, under the circumstances. But, I'm very grateful to the neighbor who did confront them about the noise!
I broke out laughing when I read that you and your daughter danced to the music!
ReplyDeleteWhat a problem though! I will admit that I would be beside myself with a neighbor that regularly had big blowout parties with a band playing outside feet away from my home.
I mean, your house was vibrating! That is just wrong.
I am glad that party is behind you and you had sweet birdsong and a nice day following it.
Your daughter is so talented :). That is an adorable card and gift.
She did a great job on her first piece of crochet clothing.
If you can't beat them, then, join them or something to that effect. :D
DeleteThe crocheted items turned out really nicely, didn't they? :)
I knew the music from the party wouldn't bother you so much, being a night owl. It's a shame others were disturbed by it, however.
ReplyDeleteYour daughter's baby gifts are beautiful. The hat made me smile :)
The music didn't keep me up because I am usually up till late, anyway, but, it was very loud!
DeleteThank you; the baby gifts did turn out well, didn't they? :)
Your daughter did a great job. That jacket looks lovely, bright and cheerful and the hat is a cute overload. I never buy newborn clothes for a new mum. I always buy 3-6 months as it gives room for the baby to grow.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Lyssa. According to my daughter, her friend is expecting a big baby; thus the request for larger than newborn baby clothes! :)
DeleteHow did I miss this post..? That's a clever concept for baby gifts. I especially like the little jacket! Did she find the pattern online?
ReplyDeleteOoh, I'm annoyed just thinking about that party....
I have started a little crochet blanket copying the pink one you made, but I'm not sure if I am using the same technique for getting into each new round. I've taken a photo which I'll mail over sometime....
Too many posts to keep up with? :D Yes, she found the pattern online.
DeleteI received the photos you sent and will reply in a few minutes. But, I do a set of 3 chains and do the next two double crochets into the same opening - they don't turn out nice and neat, but, you don't get that set of chains on their own, either. I will take some photos and send.
