Sunday

Vaccine Sticker

Today, in the afternoon, I received my first dosage of the Moderna Covid-19 vaccine!  I had my appointment at a drug store/pharmacy in an adjoining city a short (approximately 30 minutes) drive away.  My appointment was scheduled for 2:45 p.m.  The pharmacy sent me a reminder around 1:00 p.m. and a link to click on once I arrive at the pharmacy to let them know that I was there.  My daughter accompanied me and came into the pharmacy with me.  There was a table set up just inside the entrance door with a sign identifying it as the vaccination sign-in station.  I showed the pharmacy worker at the desk my appointment confirmation letter and she checked my information against the printout she had and led me to the back of the drugstore where the pharmacy area is located.

I was lucky in that there was no line at all when I went and didn't have to wait!  I was shown into a small room, right away.  The person administering the vaccine explained a little bit about the vaccine I would be receiving and possible side effects to expect.  Then, I was injected with the vaccine and issued a vaccination card that I have to bring back when I go for the 2nd dose.  I was told that I could expect the arm to be a little sore and I could ice it and take a Tylenol if I needed to, etc., and asked to sit on one of the chairs outside the room for 15 minutes for observation, which I did.

The one side effect I did feel while sitting there was one that no one warned me about!  I was suddenly overcome with the urge to shop!  I haven't been inside a store in months!  The last time I had been in a store was in September, when I went to the pharmacy after my tooth extraction to get the prescribed antibiotics and got my flu shot at the same time!  At that time, I was in pain from the tooth extraction and didn't want to do any shopping.  But, today, I was so tempted to browse in the aisles while I waited!  Not that there was anything I needed which I couldn't have ordered to be delivered or picked up, curbside, but, just the thought of actually shopping in person was heady!  It was only the thought of having to stand in line to pay for the items (there had been a fairly long line of people at the check out stands when we went in) and exposing my daughter for longer than needed that made me decide not to shop while I waited!  LOL.

After waiting for 15 minutes, we checked in with the pharmacist who had administered the vaccination, and left.  I had driven us over there, but, daughter drove us home.  We were home by 4:00 p.m.

I had eaten a tortilla with the ground beef curry for breakfast.  After we came home, we had a late lunch - I finished the last of the frozen ravioli and daughter had rice and curries.  Then, we rested a bit - I read blogs and daughter took a nap.  I think she was more stressed about me getting the vaccination than I was!

Later, we had coffee and then, I practiced the piano for a bit.  Dinner was a grilled cheese sandwich.  Daughter, who doesn't like cheese, had a bowl of ramen noodles; then, she tried a bite of my grilled cheese sandwich and was much surprised to realize that she actually liked it!  So, I made one for her, too!

Neighbor T had called me in the morning and we chatted a bit (she, too, had her first dose earlier in the week).  Aunt C called to wish me well before I went to get the vaccine and I called her when I got home to let her know that I was OK.  Later, friend R called to check on me!

Today, I am grateful for:

- Having vaccines available for Covid-19
- Receiving my first dose of the vaccination
- The whole procedure going as smoothly as it did
- Daughter accompanying me and driving me back
- Not experiencing any adverse side effects, so far!

Today's joyful activity was receiving the first vaccination dose!

My second dose is scheduled for early April.

My plans for tomorrow will depend on how well I feel.  I have my regular Monday cleaning schedule and various other things I could do, but, nothing urgent, if I don't feel up to it.

How was your Sunday?  What are your plans for Monday?

  1. Very good news to hear that you got your first dose of the COVID vaccine & how good is that to get at your local pharmacy. I chuckled about your very specific side effect - shopping urges.

  2. That's such good news Bless. Your urge to shop made me laugh - mine was done in a doctor's surgery so I can't comment on whether that's a normal reaction or not 😂😂. Do you know how long your daughter will have to wait for her vaccine and will she have to go back to her home to get it?

    1. Thank you, Eileen. Ha, ha, I think the urge to shop might be more common than expected! As I recall, you, too, did a bit of shopping at a Tesco (?) right after your 1st vaccine? :D

We found out, just yesterday, that my daughter will be eligible to receive the vaccine through her place of employment! She is going to wait until next week to book her appointment, because, otherwise, we will both receive our 2nd doses a day or so apart and we didn't want to both be experiencing any bad side effects at the same time! (I've heard that the 2nd dose causes more severe side effects - oh, no! Will that mean I'll end up buying half the store?)

    2. I'd forgotten about my little shopping trip after the vaccination. I'd better start saving up if the side effects are worse after the 2nd dose! 😁😁

  3. Glad you got the first one under your belt. I wonder if the second one will come with even stronger side effects that you won't be able to resist and you'll come away from the store with something you bought. :)

    1. Thank you, June. I've heard that the side effects are stronger after the 2nd dose! I think I shall go a little more prepared for this particular side effect, next time, and take a shopping list, with me! :D

  5. Oh good - I'm so glad things went well for you with your vaccine.
We got ours at a CVS just a couple miles away and our experience sounds similar to yours.

You really made me laugh with the vaccine side effect of a strong shopping desire lol

    1. Thank you, Debra. :) Ha, ha, you should have seen me! I was like a kid in a candy store, just wanting to grab stuff off the shelves! Toilet paper! Paper towels! Ziplock bags! Laundry detergent! Light bulbs! LOL. Nothing I really needed (except, perhaps, the light bulbs - I'm nearing the end of my stock of bulbs). I think I'll go prepared with a shopping list when I go for the 2nd dose!

  8. The urge to shop! Love it! I guess that is one side effect that is not listed.
We have had a warm day, and DH and 2 friends have started tapping maple trees.

    1. I am going ready with a shopping list, next time! :D

Oh, yes, I suppose it is almost time for the maple trees to start producing sap, isn't it? I hope you are able to collect lots of sap to make your maple syrup!

  9. Good news about your vaccination. I know what you mean about the retail therapy. I have shopped in person just twice this year; both times it has felt like an outing, and both times I have been more inspired to spend than usually! I can well imagine how it must have been for you - going out as seldom as you have!
