It's Better After a Nap

According to Dancer, life is always better after a nap!  Here he is, this morning, relaxing in a sunny spot:

Dancer Catches a Few Rays

Thank you, everyone, for your kind comments on yesterday's post.  My daughter was very disappointed and upset; she doesn't get upset that easily, so, when she gets upset, I do, too!  After we spoke online for a couple of hours, yesterday evening, going over the situation over and over, again, she decided that she will have an early night.  She is as much a night owl as I am, but, she went to bed at 9:30 p.m.  And I wrote my blog post and published it a little after midnight.

At around 12:45 a.m., my daughter called me!  She had slept for about three hours and was now up and unable to fall back asleep!  So, we chatted online for a couple of hours!  She was in a better frame of mind after her nap.  We discussed the options, once again, and decided that if she couldn't get a ride home, she will drive herself down, no matter how anxious she might feel about driving.  We ended the chat by singing some traditional Christmas carols and some other holiday songs, including "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas".  We said goodnight around 2:30 a.m., but, I didn't go to sleep until nearly 5:30 a.m. and daughter apparently never went back to sleep!

This morning, she texted me with some good news!  Her friend's roommate D, the teacher at the school where a student tested positive (not a student in one of his classes) had received a negative Covid test result.  Her friend P will be tested today, and, if the test results come back negative, then, there is a very good chance that they will drive down, this weekend, after all!  Daughter has offered to share the driving.  P has said he might take her up on that offer!  We are keeping our fingers and toes and everything else crossed!

This morning, my aunt's funeral took place.  I texted my cousin, last night, and said that I will not be attending the funeral and made my apologies.  They were allowing 30 people in the church and an unlimited number at the cemetery and, although my cousin said I could stay in the car, I thought that it would be best to stay home.

Today, I am grateful for:
- Dancer's wisdom!
- The benefit of naps!
- Kind and supportive blog comments
- The good news that the trip might still be on (pending Covid test results)
- Late night/early morning singing with my daughter!

Today's joyful activity is continuing to decorate the house!  (I didn't do any decorating, yesterday, as I didn't feel like it.)

    1. Thank you, Martha. We are keeping our fingers crossed that she will be able to make it, safely.

Yes, I thought it was best to stay home and avoid any contact with others. Just the medical appointments are scary enough!

    1. Thank you, June. By the way, she has decorated her tree and her decorations all have some special meanings. I asked her to write a guest blog post to explain what they are, so am waiting for that. :)

  3. Oh, let's hope that some of that positive sunshine that Dancer is enjoying will beam down on you and your daughter and her friends and that all will work out for her visit after all!

You were indeed wise to stay home from the funeral. I think you need to keep peaceful for your health and not go out unless it is unavoidable. I'm sure your aunt would understand.

I hope you enjoyed some more decorating. I did a little more yesterday, and I mailed some cards today and wrapped some gifts. By the way, our winter decided to "drop in" - with a drop in temperature. It was almost minus 4F last night and it was not quite as cold today but still pretty tough to be out in. My glasses iced up outdoors and fogged up when I went inside!

    1. Thank you, Bushlady. I'm hoping with all my might that the Universe will be kind and allow my daughter to come home for a visit!

Yes, I need to look after myself, especially now - I'd hate to go out and get exposed just when my daughter might be coming home!

I set up the winter village, today. My village seems to have grown to a small town over the years and I am running out of space on the mantel which is where I display it! I still have to fit in one or two accessories before I can take a picture.

Oh, my, but, that is cold! Stay safe and warm!

  4. HOORAY!! This is looking positive 🙂 Let's hope for a negative result for P, but I'm glad that she's said that she'll come anyway ... and the halfway meet-up idea on the last post is brilliant! (Why didn't I think of that?)

    1. Thank you, Anne. I was watching the national weather report and the snow storm forecasted for the north-east, including NY. I hope your son3 and dil3 can still make it!

  6. I'm so glad it's looking more likely that, one way or another, you and your daughter can be together over Christmas. Are the roads any quieter as a result of the lockdown if she does end up having to drive?

    1. Thank you, Eileen. I think the roads are a little quieter, but, I don't know how it will be up in the Bay Area (San Francisco, Berkeley, etc.) until she leaves the more built up, urban areas. Parts of the freeway she will be taking is through agricultural areas, miles and miles of vineyards, orchards, etc., (and at least one cattle ranch that one can smell before one actually sees it!) and usually the freeway is fairly open through those areas (lot of trucks, though, transporting the farm products), until it reaches Los Angeles, when it gets more congested, again. But, she is a good driver and I am sure she will be able to handle it.

I'm looking forward to seeing your daughter's decoration and reading her guest post.
And I'm also looking forward to seeing your Christmas "town" lol

    1. Thank you, Debbie. Aunt lived a long and productive life; she used to tell me that she was ready to go. Daughter and I are hopeful that she will be able to come down and you can always trust Dancer to find a nice warm spot to curl up! :)

  9. Cats are very sensible. The thought of enjoying a nap in the sunshine is very appealing just now.
I'm so pleased your daughter will be coming home for Christmas now. I expect you can hardly wait for her to arrive. X
