Thursday's Plans

Stream (Japanese Garden)

I took my time getting started on the housework, yesterday.  Even when I am motivated to clean, as I have been, this week, and even though I enjoy the process of cleaning (for the most part), I still procrastinate on starting it!  For me, getting started is half the battle, when it comes to cleaning.  Dancer tried his best to motivate me, leaving me stuff to clean up just outside his litter box (I think he forgot to turn around so his behind was outside the litter box, instead of being inside!) and some spit up in the family room!  Thank you, Dancer!  I cleaned his mess up, even before I had my morning tea, but, I've spent the rest of the morning on the computer!  I will put it down to the fact that I woke up with a slight headache/sinus pressure this morning (which is gradually easing off).

Brunch was rice flour noodles we call idiappam or stringhoppers with chicken curry, both from the freezer that I thawed and warmed up.  I took pictures, but, my phone is out of storage space, it says, and isn't able to transfer the pictures to my computer for me to post.  I have deleted all that I dare to delete to free up some storage space, but, it is still not working.  I am going to have to wait until my daughter comes home, this weekend to see if she can figure out how to free up more space for me.  What I have is not an expensive phone; it is a $40 track phone that we bought on sale a couple of years ago, mostly so I could text my daughter and take a few photos.  :)

Yesterday was another productive day.  I vacuumed the lamp shades and under the sofa cushions in the living room (I have a canister vacuum with various attachments, like brushes and nozzles, that enable me to vacuum more than the floor); then, vacuumed the floors.  If I ignore the dusty baseboards and the drapes, I can say that I am happy with the state of my living room:

The shelves on either side of the fireplace where I've displayed some of my blue and white china collection were already there when I bought the house.  I like them, so, I've kept them.

The piano is against the wall to the left of the picture, with the arm chair I usually sit on next to it.  The big picture window is behind the sofa to the right of the picture.  You can see it in the photo below, taken from the dining area:

It's all open plan.  I keep the dining table pushed against the wall to leave enough space to walk from the living room to the family room.   This is where I sew and scrapbook, etc.

Wednesday's To Do List:
- Vacuum - including under the living room sofa cushions and lamp shades - DONE
- Paperwork/filing  - DONE
- Do one decluttering/organizing task - DONE
- Water the back garden - DONE

Thursday's To Do List:
- Clean the kitchen - STARTED (cleaned the microwave)
- Load of laundry
- Remake daughter's bed with fresh sheets
- Remove cobwebs in living room (noticed one, last night!) and dining area

I don't have a piano lesson, today, as S gave everyone a break this week.

Today, I am grateful for:
- What I am able to accomplish in terms of housework
- Microwave ovens
- Frozen food (homemade or bought)
- Being retired with time to enjoy doing what I please
- Library books

Today's joyful activity is crocheting.

How is your Thursday coming along?

    1. Thank you, Andrea. There used to be carpeting throughout the house, but, I had them pulled up, several years ago, and the oak wood floors refinished. I'm glad I did that. I'm trying my best to be a neat housekeeper! My natural tendencies are to be a messy one! :D

  2. Your living room looks so cosy and the white shelves by the fireplace are perfect for displaying your blue and white china. Is the big picture window at the front of the house facing on to the road? I love seeing other people's homes so thanks for letting us have a peep inside yours.

I do hope your daughter can get your phone sorted for you.

    1. Thank you, Eileen. Yes, the picture window faces the front garden and the road. I read an article somewhere online that said that the original purpose of picture windows was not so that the people inside the house could see outside, but, so that people outside, passers by and so forth, could see inside and see a picture of the perfect family in residence! Most of my neighbors keep their drapes drawn closed, covering their picture windows (we all have picture windows; our houses were all built at the same time, to more or less the same design, with 4 floor plans), but, I like to keep the drapes open during the day for the natural light. I think the lace curtains provide enough privacy (you really can't see anything through the lace curtains when you are standing outside; I've checked).

  3. YOur home is beautiful! I have an inexpensive TracFone also and the battery is starting to wear out more quickly now. I do have a fancier one that my mother gace me, but I need to transfer my account to it.

    1. Thank you, Debbie. Oops! I think I misspelled the name of the phone in my post! :D My daughter thinks I should upgrade to a better phone, but, we shall see.

  4. What a beautiful home. The shelves are just right for your collection of blue and white china. I think Dancer needs to bear in mind that it is the responsibility of all family members to keep it looking good!
Thursday was a "snow day". We had an enormous amount and even after the driveway was cleared, we still had another inch or two overnight. I checked photos from previous years and the snow was even a little higher in 2017 and 2019 in the middle of February.

    1. Thank you, Bushlady. I'll tell Dancer that! :D

Oh, my, snow! It was in the mid-80s, here! Stay safe and warm, but, make a snowball for me, OK? :)

  6. Love your home, Bless. I love the wooden floors, the white display shelves beside the fireplace, the chandelier and the classic furniture fits the space so well. I am looking around my space right now and noticing that every surface has "crap" on it. Ugh. And you are right, it would only take 15 minutes to clear it up.

I would love to see your rag rug in process.

    1. Thank you, Susan. Sometimes, I look at the fireplace wall and think there is too much of visual stimulation. But, I am not ready to take out shelves and so forth, yet. The chandelier was a gift from my mother. :)

Mostly clear surfaces with one or two items displayed do a lot to make the whole room look neat, I have found. I am trying hard to put stuff away at night, before I go to sleep and keep the surfaces cleared.

I will post a picture of the rag rug, now that I am able to get my phone to transfer photos!

  7. Your home looks so lovely, Bless. The fireplace shelves are perfect. I would've kept them too.
I love all your blue and white. It's such a classic look.
And the pops of pink are perfect :)

    1. Thank you, Debra. Ha, ha, the pink cushion covers are what I sewed. The earlier cushion covers were white. I felt like making a change, one day, and sewed the pink covers with fabric in the stash!
