Superbowl Sunday

Dining Room Shelving Unit: Before (May, 2019)

Today, I put the washed and dried sofa slip cover back on the sofa and washed the slip covers of the second sofa in the family room (the family room seating consists of two sofas).

Then, I put away the tea and various other items I bought.  I took the opportunity to tidy the kitchen cabinets where I store the canned goods that are part of my earthquake supplies.  I made a note of the items I have plenty of and should get more of.

That done, I checked the paper goods I will need for the upcoming prayer gathering.  I will use my glass plates for the dinner, but, I usually use paper bowls and paper napkins, etc. for the snacks and desserts.  I have plenty of bowls and napkins, etc., but, I might need to buy a packet of paper plates to send food home with people.

Then, I dusted and tidied the shelves of the shelf unit in the dining room.  The three shelves hold my cookbook collection and some decorative objects.  The cabinet below the shelves holds my kitchen towels, table cloths, placemats, hot pads, and cloth napkins.  I had gone through the cabinet, earlier, and sorted through things.  Today, I rearranged the shelves on the top.

Shelf Unit: After (February 2020)

The blue and white ginger jars and the tea pots had already been moved to other parts of the house, some to the living room and some to the family room, around October, and the shelves were used to store items I bought for the almsgiving and, later, some Christmas gifts (jars of jam, jar candles, boxes of chocolates, etc.).  In fact, I put away the last two jars of jam that were remaining in the kitchen cabinet, a couple of days ago.  I am going to enjoy this "decluttered" look for a little while, I think.

In the late afternoon, I watched some figure skating and worked on the jigsaw puzzle.  Then, I watched the first quarter of the Superbowl.  Cousin P called me a little after that and invited me over to tea.  So, I went over and had tea with her and chatted with her for a bit.  I came home and watched the fourth quarter of the Superbowl.  Later, I washed the dishes and video chatted with my daughter.

Today, I am grateful for:
- Being alive and well
- A sunny and warm day
- Cousin P inviting me to tea
- A working washing machine
- Video chatting with my daughter

Today's joyful activity was having tea with cousin P.

Monday's To Do List:
- Put the dried covers back on the sofa
- Dust and tidy the family room
- Do paperwork/pay bills
- Clean the fridge
- Take out the trash cans
- Water the garden

How was your Sunday?  Did you watch the Superbowl?  What are your plans for Monday?

    1. Thank you, Jules. I go back and forth between having more on the shelves and less. I would like to move this bookcase to the spare room for my craft supplies, but, I like having the table cloths, etc., in the cupboard portion of it, right in the dining area.

  3. Your shelf does look so very tidy. I think bookcases are my next area to tackle of the decluttering. I did not watch any of the Super Bowl. I also had a working washing machine on my Sunday gratitude list :)

    1. Thank you! I went through my books, last year, and it was such a hard task for me! But, it's been 6 months since I did that, so, maybe it's time to do it, again!

  4. I like the decluttered look of the shelves, although I admit I'd have to put the books in height order or find another place for them 😂😂

I didn't watch the Superbowl. It is available in this country on cable TV which I don't have but I'm not sure I would watch it even if I could.

    1. Ha, ha, now you are making me want to put the books in height order! LOL.

I used to have my cookbooks in the bookcase in the family room, at one time. Then, when I brought this shelf unit to the dining area (it used to be in one of the bedrooms), I thought it would be a good place for the cookbooks, as it is next to the kitchen.

I used to have about 6 linear feet of cookbooks! They took up two shelves in the other bookcase. I've thinned them down to less than two linear feet. I am hoping to thin them down even more, since, as my daughter says, one can find just about any recipe online, these days. But, that's a project for another day.

  5. I'm not sure what the Superbowl is, Bless. Coming from New Zealand, it's rugby, rugby, rugby, plus league, netball, cricket.

    1. The Superbowl is the ultimate game as far as American professional football is concerned. :) I learned about American football when I attended university in Green Bay, Wisconsin, as that city is all about its football team!

  6. Your place looks so neat and tidy. You have inspired me to do some decluttering.

    1. Ha, ha, that's because I am not brave enough to show anyone the rest of my place! The untidy areas! No candid shots of what the family room looks like at this minute, for example! :D

  7. Will you have to finish your jigsaw puzzle quickly and put it away for company? (I'm not suggesting that Dancer help!)

Seeing your before and after photos reminded me that many years ago I took a lot of photos around the house for insurance purposes if we should ever need to list items. When I looked at them years later, I was struck by how much stuff I had either donated or put away. It is fun to compare and I think we should make a habit of before and after photos!

    1. Bushlady, I finished the jigsaw puzzle today! It has been broken up and put back into the box until next Christmas!

Before and after pictures can be very helpful. Some of my display shelves remain the same, usually when I find an arrangement I like. Others change quite a bit as things get moved around. But, it's good to see how things evolve. :)

  8. Sounds like quite a busy day! I didn't watch the game. I can't even tell you who was playing. I'm not a fan of American football. I don't understand it at all. I think I'm a little too impatient as there seems to be a lot of stopping and starting.

    1. It was a good day, in terms of productivity and relaxation. :) I am not an ardent fan of football, but, I like to watch the Superbowl, for some reason. I pick a team to root for and usually, it ends up being the losing team! LOL.

  9. I'll have to admit that I like both the before and after of the shelves, so I don't think you can go wrong. They are such pretty pieces that they would make any shelf look nice.

    1. Thank you, Live and Learn. You are very kind and diplomatic! :) I go through phases when I like a lot of things massed together or just one or two items displayed at a time.

  10. A very productive start to a busy week for you. Will you be serving the same meal that you prepare for October's rosary prayer meeting? Have you decided on the menu yet?
I did not watch the Super Bowl. I don't even pay attention to our Canadian Grey Cup game. I am just not into sports teams any more. In fact, since moving here, I haven't even been watching television. YouTube has become my new screen time. I can while away many an hour on my computer.

    1. I have a tentative menu planned and it is not quite the same at the October meal, but, similar. I will have rice (of course), chicken curry, the smoked sausage with bell peppers that was so popular, last time, cashew curry, lentils, papadum, salad, and some sort of green vegetable - probably green beans. One of my friends asked if she could bring a beef curry and I said that would be lovely. But, even if she is unable to bring the beef curry, the chicken curry and sausages will be enough.
