Relaxed Tuesday

Tuesday started with a phone call from my half-sister.  I had called her and left a message, yesterday, so she was returning my phone call.  We chatted for a bit and brought each other up to date on what has been happening in our lives since we last spoke.

I spent a fairly relaxed morning.  After breakfast, I brought the now emptied trash cans in and collected the mail.  Today, I didn't process it right away, however, so it is sitting on the side table, here!  This is how the paper piles begin!

In the afternoon, I practiced the piano (Dancer didn't join me, today) and then, I put away a few things that needed to go on the higher shelves in the upper kitchen cabinets.  It meant having to stand on the second step on the  two-steps kitchen step stool.  While I was up there, I checked to see if there was anything to declutter, but, there wasn't (at least, that's my story and I'm sticking to it!).  LOL.

I spent the majority of my afternoon and the early part of the evening doing scrapbooking.  I think I redid about 7 pages, today.  I watched some news while I crafted.

Neighbor T called me in the afternoon to give me a couple of oranges and I took over a bunch of flowers from my garden to give her.  We visited a little bit, but, I didn't stay long.

I didn't water the back garden, today, either, so I really need to water it, tomorrow.

Today, I am grateful for:
- Being able to chat with my sister
- Neighbor T sharing some of her oranges with me
- Being able to thank her with a bouquet of flowers from my garden
- Spending the afternoon scrapbooking
- Video chatting with my daughter

Today's joyful activities included chatting with my sister and scrapbooking.

Tuesday's To Do List:
- Bring the trash cans in - DONE
- Water the back garden
- Water the house plants - DONE
- Continue to scrapbook - DID Some

Wednesday's To Do List:
- Vacuum
- Paperwork/filing
- Call to schedule an appointment
- Do one decluttering/organizing task
- Water the back garden
- Practice the piano
- Go to the post office

How was your Tuesday?  What are your plans for Wednesday?

  1. I've been avoiding piles like the post on the table by dealing with it straight away if it takes less than 5 - 10 minutes to deal with. It's made a huge difference as keeping on top of things in this way means less time spent tidying up when it's all got too messy.

Do you find you get sidetracked with reminiscing as you are doing the scrapbooking?

    1. I did process yesterday's mail, last night, after I posted, Eileen. It bothered me that my determination to deal with the mail as it came in lasted only one week! There were four pieces of mail - I tore up two and put them in the recycling bag, filed the medical bill statements, and kept the last piece of mail out as I needed to make a phone call on that. This morning, I made the phone call (to make an appointment for a health insurance related workshop), made a note of it on my calendar and paper clipped the piece of mail to the calendar, as it has the information about place and time. I am supposed to get a confirmation letter, about a week prior to the date of the workshop; at which point, I will toss this piece of mail and keep only the confirmation letter.

Oh, my, yes! I walk miles down Memory Lane when I scrapbook! I find myself taking cell phone pictures of some of the photos and sending to my daughter, and she's noticed at least one thing in one photo that I hadn't even noticed, before! These are all photos of her, growing up, that I am scrapbooking. :)

  2. You have settled into retirement well. Are there days that you miss work?

    1. Thank you, Live and Learn; I think that retirement suits me! :D No, I don't miss work. I enjoyed it, for the most part, while I worked, but, I like the more leisurely pace of life I have now. Back when I was working, I would rush to leave the house by 6:30 a.m. (7:00 a.m. at the latest) in order to get to work on time. I started work at 8:00 a.m.; but, that last year, I was constantly late, especially after we moved to the new building because I had to take a bus from the parking lot to get to the new office and that added to my commute time. I'd leave the office at 5:30 p.m. (I worked an alternative schedule of 8 x 9-hour work days and one 8 hour day and have a day off every two weeks), get home around 6:45 or 7 p.m. And then, I'd be too tired to do anything much other than watch TV, write a blog post, video chat with my daughter, exchange emails with a friend, etc. Not much housework got done during the week and I didn't want to spend my weekends cleaning, either.

Now, it is my time to do all those projects I wished I had time to do when I was working! :D

  3. Rain here ... as usual during February- this has been a remarkably mild winter (not that we usually have Arctic conditions) and trees and other plants are already getting their spring styles on display- a sudden drop in temps will really wreck havoc if it occurs- of course the conditions of constant mud and daily downpours aren't good for doing any kind of work outside, so the yards just look neglected- I've looked at the long-range weather predictions, and things look pretty swampy well into March- sigh ...
Paige has gotten to the 'bad burn' stage of her treatments, but the end is in sight- next week will see the end of this stage, and she will start her chemo- the burn is quite extensive, but her doctors have given her things to keep her comfortable, and she knows this could have started much earlier and been far worse-Whitney has a doctor's appt later in the week and she should have some update on her condition then- this is just like something from a nightmare-
Do stay safe while climbing about on the stepstool ... this request from me who totters about on a box placed atop a chair while looking in the back of cabinets- I am a firm believer in the saying "do as I say, not as I do"!
Have a good week- you and yours remain in my thoughts and prayers-
    Barb

    1. Barb, thank you for the update. I was just thinking about you, yesterday, as I hadn't heard from you in several days, wondering how things were going and hoping all was well. Sorry to hear that Paige has the bad burn, but, glad the doctors are taking care of it. I was given a silver sulfate topical ointment to apply (apparently, something used on burn victims) and treatment had to be stopped for about a week until it healed well enough to continue. I hope Whitney's appointment with her doctor goes well and the prognosis is good. (((HUGS))) I can't imagine what you must be feeling, but, stay strong and positive. Know that I and others are praying for you and your daughters, for good health and healing. And, please try not to stand on boxes on chairs! :)

  4. Always hard to have to climb in order to put away items in high cabinets. However, what I find hard is getting into the lowest part of the bottom cabinets because once I crouch down it is hard to get up again! The same thing is a problem if I want to look at something on a bottom shelf in a store or the library.

    1. Oh, I can no longer crouch, because, when I do, I can't get up without help! I'll bend, but, when I am at home, I sit on a stool to get things out from the bottom shelf of cabinets. I've been thinking of getting bins or baking sheets or something to use on the bottom shelves so I can pull them out, like drawers, to get at something stored there.

  5. The only thing on my to-do list yesterday was to shovel the driveway. I did it, but I also wrote out a birthday card to one of my brothers, wrote out a newsy "Thinking of you" card for another friend undergoing cancer treatments, and I made a birthday card for my sister who is celebrating today.

Shovelling snow is a priority, so other plans go out the window. I am usually deliciously fatigued afterwards, but I decided not to nap and just work on those cards. I went to bed earlier last night.

    1. Shoveling snow is hard work and probably very good exercise, too! I admire you for being able to do that (I know I wouldn't be able to manage!). That was nice that you were able to do the cards, too. Happy birthday to your sister!

Hope you are having a good day, today. Stay on top of that snow removal!

  6. The scrapbooking sounds like fun. I'd love to see some of your pages sometime. I admit that I haven't done a lot of it recently but it's a great way to document and relieve memories.

    1. It is fun to scrapbook, Sharon, and I am enjoying it. I shall take some pictures of the pages and post. They are nothing very fancy, though.

  7. That sounds very relaxing. I've been doing a lot of cooking. I made some turkey tacos, and a huge batch of beef stew. It's mostly vegetables, but the meat and barley give it a really nice flavor. It's very hearty. I have been getting a lot of repairs done at the house and with the car, as well. Happy piano practicing!

    1. Thank you, Stephenie. I have not cooked much since the prayer gathering, because I have a lot of leftovers! Your beef stew sounds delicious; ideal for cold weather! Hope all the house repairs go well and you are pleased with the results. Hope your week is going well.

  8. My Tuesday walkabout getting things in order. Plus I may or may not have hinged Manifest. It was pouring down rain so it was a great day to fold laundry and do some mendingwhilewatching tv. I hate typing on this stupid Kindle keypad

    1. Sounds like a busy day, Anne. Thanks for mentioning mending - I've a pile of that to do, too! I admire you for typing on the Kindle keypad; hope your computer is repaired soon!

  9. Your scrapbooking sounds like a wonderful task to undertake.
It seems you're having a good time resisting good times in the past.

A few years ago I resolved to deal with my mail immediately. I used to just throw it all in a basket and it would pile up for sure.
Now I do it right away. As you've said, it really takes no time.

I'm sure you'll master this new task and it will become second nature.

    1. It was fun to sit and scrapbook, as I've not done that in a long time. :)

I hope I can continue to process the mail right away. It's nice not having paper piles to deal with at the end of the week. :)
