Visiting on Sunday

Earlier in the week, when I called my aunt to wish her for her birthday, I told her I'll visit her this weekend.  Today, I called her to see if it would be OK for me to visit her this afternoon and she said yes.  Then, I called cousin P to see if she'd like to go with me, but, she couldn't leave her husband who is recovering from knee surgery.  So, I went by myself.

I knitted her a shawl for her birthday, because she feels cold all the time.  I gave the shawl and a jar of my jam as her birthday gift from me.  She was so happy with the shawl that she took off the scarf she was wearing and put on the shawl, right away, saying it was exactly what she wanted.  I was happy that she liked her gift.  When her older daughter, my cousin V, came in, aunt showed her the shawl and said, "See what Bless gave me".  I also took a bag of freshly picked lemons and several sprigs of curry leaves for her, to be shared with her daughter, etc.

I didn't stay too long, but, aunt insisted that I ate something before I left, so, cousin V served me some stringhoppers (similar to rice noodles) and curries.  I came home around 6:30 p.m. and have been relaxing and taking it easy.

Today, I am grateful for:
- Being able to visit my 93 year old aunt
- She liked the gift I made for her
- Seeing cousin V, as well
- A safe drive there and back (plus, the car started and had a bit of a run)
- A relaxed evening

Today's joyful activity was visiting with aunt and cousin.

Monday's To Do List:
- Change bed sheets
- Load of laundry (bed sheets/towels)
- Clean the fridge
- Take trash cans to the curb for Tuesday trash pick up
- Water the garden, front and back
- Paperwork

On the calendar for the week ahead:
Tuesday: movie at the library with friend R
Wednesday: blood test
Thursday: piano lesson
Friday: oncologist appointment, M to do the garden

How was your Sunday?  What are your plans for Monday and the week ahead?

  1. It's a lovely feeling when you know someone genuinely appreciates a gift, as your aunt clearly does. X

    1. It really is, Jules. Especially since I wasn't sure if she'd appreciate a handmade gift. But, apparently, she did! :)

  2. It's hard to think of a gift for a very elderly relative or friend. I often bake a cake as it seems eagerly received. In fact, I often take a cake when visiting someone who is unwell; sometimes when the appetite is poor, a tasty slice of cake can cheer. Handmade/homemade gifts give the extra pleasure of knowing that someone has also given their time.

    1. It really was hard to think of a gift for her. She certainly doesn't need another object for the house and she has too many clothes, already. But, I'm glad she liked the shawl. :)

  3. Which movie are you going to see?

I hope the two medical appointments go well for you, and that you feel less nervous at your piano lesson.

    1. Tuesday's movie is "Downton Abbey". I haven't really followed the series, but, I've seen bits and pieces, enough to know who the main characters are.

This library hosts two movie screenings a month, one in the evening, one in the afternoon. They are free to attend. I am not a big movie goer, so, I haven't attended any of the previous screenings. But, I've been inspired by you and have decided to make more of an effort to go out and about and do things, this year!

The second screening, to be held later this month, is "Judy", based on the life of Judy Garland. I've marked it on my calendar, but, friend R won't be able to go with me as it will be in the afternoon and she will be at work.

Thank you; I hope so too! :D

  4. How lovely to visit your elderly Aunt! I'm sure it was wonderful, for the both of you. I take it, she lives with your cousin...

Your week is planned. Not so here. -smile- Best of luck with what you have planned.

    1. It was good to see her again. Actually, she lives in her own home, but, a member of the extended family and his wife live with her so she's not alone. Her two daughters visit almost daily, as well.

This is one of those rare weeks when I have something planned for each day! Usually, I have very little planned and I just drift along, then, wonder where the week went. I am hoping that this will give me the incentive to do things rather than procrastinate! Thank you for wishing me luck with it! :) Hope your week unfolds pleasantly, even if you haven't planned anything much. :)

  5. Food seems to be very much a part of your circle of friends/culture. Do you ever visit someone without leaving with food? Does anyone ever leave your house without food? While food is important in my circles, I do come and go many places without exchanging food.

Just curious. I learn a lot from you and other blog friends.

    1. Come and visit me some day, Live and Learn, and you'll find out for yourself! LOL. You are right; we rarely leave the homes of family and close friends without being given something to eat or to take home with us, or, both! :D I guess food equals hospitality and, to us, hospitality is very important. My daughter says that food is our language of love. She learned very early on that we never return an empty container, for example. Always, always, return a container with something in it or with it and, usually, that something is edible! :D

  6. I hope your medical appointments go well, Bless.

I was going to ask about the movie, and then saw your answer to Eileen. :) I didn't know there was a Downton Abbey movie.

My mom also doesn't return empty containers. :)

    1. Thank you, Nil. The hospital I normally go to is closing its doors, according to the news, due to bankruptcy, so I don't know quite what is going on, but, I will call and confirm the appointment before I go (the medical offices are in a different building than the hospital).

They made a Downton Abbey movie after the end of the TV series, last year. Your library might have a copy of the movie, perhaps?

Ha, ha, I learned about not returning empty containers from my mother and, of course, daughter learned it from us!

How was your first day back at school? Did the classes go well?

    1. Hi Debra! I was just thinking of you, yesterday, wondering how you were because I hadn't heard from you in a while. :) Hope all is well with you.

Yes, she really liked the shawl. I made it rectangular so that it would be easy for her to wear around the shoulders without worrying about corners getting caught to the wheels of her wheelchair.
