Monday

It was cloudy and cool, this morning; cool enough for me to turn on the heater for awhile.  Later in the afternoon, however, there was sunshine and it warmed up, nicely.

I had a relaxed morning, responding to texts from a friend who is trying to schedule this month's prayer gathering (she wanted to know which dates were convenient and asked me to call one of my cousins who hadn't responded to her texts), replying to blog comments, etc.

There was a text from the pharmacy, as well, saying one of my medications was ready for pick up.  So, in the afternoon, I drove to the pharmacy to pick up the medication, then, went to the adjoining dollar store.  I bought three cans of mackerel in brine and four cans of coconut milk.  I didn't take any pictures of them, but, I spent $7 on the canned food items.  I now have $43.49 left in my June grocery budget.

While I was out shopping, I really wanted to get some soda, but, I didn't.  I told myself that I can make myself some lemonade when I got home, instead.  So, after I came home, I picked some lemons from one of my Meyer lemon trees and made myself a glass of lemonade.  It wasn't as good as a glass of the carbonated soda I wanted, but, it was better for me!  LOL.

I sipped my lemonade, watched some news, shredded more paper, watered the front garden, took the trash cans to the curb, etc., and watched some TV (while I shredded more paper).  I also spent some time, reading.

I cooked mung beans for my brunch, this morning.  For dinner, I had leftovers from last night - rice, smoked sausages sliced and sauteed with onions, tomatoes, radish seed pods harvested from the garden, and spices.  I forgot to take any photos, however.

Today's book decluttering:

Day 3 Book Decluttering
I have two copies of this book, given to me by one of the monks who came to last year's almsgiving (one for me, one for my daughter).  We really don't need two copies, so I am releasing this one to bless someone else who might want to know more about the subject.

Today, I am grateful for:
- A relaxed day
- Another no-drama medication refill at the pharmacy
- Sunshine in the afternoon
- Having books to read
- Video chatting with my daughter

Tuesday's To Do List:
- Dusting
- Grocery shopping
- Pay bills (gas, utilities)
- Post office to mail the bill payments
- Library to drop off books and magazines
- Bank
- Water the houseplants and the back yard

How was your Monday?  What have you planned for Tuesday?

  1. I much prefer homemade lemonade to a carbonated drink. I never buy carbonated drinks anymore although I used to drink them all the time. My tastes have changed as I've got older and now I occasionally have a carbonated drink when I meet friends in a pub, but even then I am just as likely to order a black coffee.

How much more shredding do you have to do? It's my least favourite task so you have my sympathy! Well done on finding another book to declutter.

    1. I think I didn't put enough sugar in my lemonade to satisfy my sweet tooth!

Unfortunately, I have quite a bit more left to shred! The problem is, I don't have a shredder. I am cutting up everything by hand, with a pair of scissors. I do it while watching TV in the evenings.

Thank you. Book decluttering is hard for me! I was eyeing a knitting book, but, I put it back! LOL.

  2. Homemade lemonade is million times better than soda. Good for you for resisting the temptation to buy soda. 😊

Today (Tuesday ) I went shopping with mom.

    1. Thank you, Nil. I didn't drink quite as much of it as I would have with soda, so, it was twice as better for me, I think! :D

Shopping with mom must have been fun! Of course, now I want to know where you shopped and what you bought!

    1. Glad you had a safe drive home, Angela. Glad you have a sunny day for the washing to dry, too. Good luck with the ironing!

  4. Our Monday was very productive. We did a couple of hours of volunteer work, and a run to the grocery store, and a general tidy up around the house with a few little chores. Like you, I am trying to cut back on the soda and making Arnold Palmers here at home (1/2 lemonade, 1/2 tea), but I still have the occasional cola. Trouble is, hubby always buys in bulk (3 x 12 can packs) to get the best price so that there is more soda in the house than willpower in me.

    1. That certainly was a productive Monday! I keep a 2-liter bottle of ginger ale on hand for emergencies (upset tummy, etc.), but, I don't much care for ginger ale, so that's not a temptation! However, if there is cola or lemon-lime soda, then, I am definitely tempted! Unless it is flat - then, I don't like it!

  5. Going to your yard and picking lemons to make lemonade sounds so wonderful. However, more like a fairy tale to me than reality. Enjoy some for the rest of us who live in a colder climate.

    1. I'll definitely have some for you, Live and Learn. I'm nearing the end of my lemons - I should pick what is left and freeze the juice until the next crop comes in, later this year.

  6. It is definitely not cool enough to run the heater here, but it is not as hot as it was yesterday so that is a plus.
I am enjoying seeing the book titles you are passing on. I am not doing it daily, but thought I would just do them 7 at a time for the week. I will try to remember to snap a photo to post.

    1. Enjoy your cooler temperatures, today. :) Going through the shelves and pulling out several books at a time is probably a more efficient way of decluttering them. One can declutter an entire shelf at a time and be done with it. I can't quite bring myself to do it, that way, yet.

  7. Radish seed pods! There's something else I've not heard of. Are these, as they sound, radishes that have gone to seed? You are very disciplined in your food spending. I do set a budget for housekeeping/food but I overspend almost every month. Note to self: try harder!

    1. That's exactly what they are, Eloise. Radish that has gone to seed. I pick the seed pods before the seeds are fully formed and the pods are dry. I shall take a photo of them and post. One can eat them raw, in salads, etc., but, I preferred to cook them (just a light saute).

I try to keep to my self-imposed grocery budget. Sometimes, however, I go over budget - usually when I stock up, but, I like the challenge. :)

  8. Hi Bless, It was great, thanks. I am making progress on the gloves that I'm knitting. I also got the laundry done. Good for you for making lemonade instead of drinking soda. It sounds delicious!

    1. Sounds like you had a very productive day! Thank you - I added a little more sugar to my lemonade, today, and it tasted better. :)

  9. It's still cool where I am, too, but I had a pleasant day out with a friend and we went to see a friend in another town where she moved into residential care. Then we took a look in a large thrift store but neither of us bought anything (we are both decluttering so anything we might buy would have to be useful). We had lunch, then visited a department store before heading home. I think we bought one item each so we were not in a shopaholic mood!

    1. That sounds like a very nice day, spent visiting and shopping with a friend. Sometimes, just window-shopping and browsing can be fun. :)
