It's Like Pulling Teeth

My book decluttering, that is.  I've a whole stack of books pulled out from the shelves to go through, but, I've only managed to declutter these two:

Houseplants
I've had this book on houseplants for several years.  It escaped a previous decluttering effort.  But, there aren't that many houseplants that are safe for cats and Dancer insists on eating plants.  Besides, these days, one can look up all the information one needs on plants online, so I think I can let this book go, now.

A Child's Garden of Verses
I had a different edition of this book as a child (the poems were the same, but the illustrations were different) and it was a favorite.  I can still recite a few of the verses from memory.  I bought this edition for my daughter, but, she didn't care that much for it.  When she decluttered it from her bookshelves, I kept it in my bookshelf.  Re-reading the poems, now, however, I can see how much they reflect the attitudes of the times in which they were written.  This book has been put in the donations bag.

How are you coming along with your book decluttering?  Are you finding it easy or hard?

  1. I'm finding it easy but I think I will run out of books before the end of the month, although I still have a couple of boxes and one more cupboard to look through so there may be more.

    1. You've decluttered well over 30 books, so, it would be fine if you run out of books before the month is over! :)

  2. Good job with your continued book decluttering. It's a hard thing to do for those of us who like books. We got rid of lots of books when we moved and I think if I got rid of any more right now my husband would have a heart attack.

    1. Oh, no, we don't want that to happen! I think, if you've decluttered your books once, already, and you have the space to house what is left, then, it's fine. I think it would be much easier for me to declutter if I knew I was moving or downsizing! Because then, there would be a real purpose, other than feeling I have too much/I don't re-read all these books!

  3. I too often find it’s easier to look something up online.
Still I like books. Sometimes just to look at photos. 😊 And to dream about doing all those crafts, cooking all those dishes ‘one of these days’. LOL

    1. Craft and cooking books are the hardest! Especially now that my "one of these days" have arrived! I finally have the time to sit and do the crafts or bake those cakes!

  4. OH, Dr. Robert Louis Stevenson, classic! It's time for me to declutter some more books, too.

    1. Yes, it is a classic, isn't it? I used to love poetry; I still do, for that matter. But, time to let this book go.

    1. Well done on the book decluttering, Angela. You have the perfect reason for keeping your copy of the Child's Garden of Verses. :)

    1. Well done in getting rid of what you didn't need. I still have so many that I don't really need, but, just want!

  7. I have numerous poetry books and came to appreciate some of the early Canadian poets that I had never heard of before we came to Canada. I just haven't been able to get rid of any of them yet. My other weakness is anything to do with wild plants or garden plants, but I did donate my books on houseplants because I am quite capable of killing them off myself, I don't need any help thank you! I certainly don't want any information that will make me feel guilty of forgetting to water them.

    1. I still have several books of poetry on my shelves. That was my last houseplants book! I haven't touched the gardening books! I did remember to water the houseplants, today!
