I took the car in for a service, today. I was told that, in addition to the oil change, I also needed to do a few other things, since the car now has over 36,000 miles. They estimated it would take two to three hours (it actually took a little less than two hours). I waited in the nicely air conditioned customer lounge, read a bit, and watched TV. They had an Indian cooking show on; I tried to change the channel, but I couldn't get the remote to work and neither could the three workers there that I asked! Not that there's anything wrong with Indian cooking - they were showing how to make samosas, chicken biriyani, rice pudding (kheer), mango lassi, etc. But, it was making me hungry! LOL! The car service bill came to $435.09; I budget $100 per month for car maintenance, so that was not an issue.
After the car service was done, I drove to the pharmacy to pick up my medication refill and came home. Had lunch and went through another couple of file folders. I am now starting to have a little room in the filing cabinet! At least, in this one drawer! Yay! After that, I tried to sew a bit, but, even with the stand fan playing on me, it was too hot in the living room/dining area where I have the sewing machine set up, as it gets the afternoon/evening sun. So, I cleaned my bathroom, watered the indoor plants and, because it was cooler outside than inside, by then, watered both the backyard and the front. Even the succulents in the front have got sunburnt!
Today's book decluttering:
Day 12 Book Decluttering |
Which brings me to the question: just how many books relating to Christmas does one need? I know I gave away at least one other Christmas related book ("A Patchwork Christmas") in an earlier decluttering session and this is the third one in this decluttering session! I still have nine more Christmas related books on the shelf!
Cousin P called in the evening and we chatted for a bit. Later, I video chatted with my daughter.
Today's joyful activity was watering the garden.
Today, I am grateful for:
- Getting the car serviced and having the funds set aside for that
- A nice, air conditioned waiting area, with TV, etc., at the service station
- More drama-free medication refills!
- An abundance of books!
- A slightly cooler day
Wednesday's To Do List:
- Take the car for a service - DONE
- Clean my bathroom - DONE
- Continue to declutter my files - DONE
- Do another load of laundry
- Water the indoor plants - DONE
Thursday's To Do List:
- Do a load of laundry
- Vacuum
- Clean the kitchen
- More file clearing
How was your Wednesday? Do you budget for things like car maintenance? What are your plans for Thursday?
Oh dear... Now you are making me feel guilty. I still have Martha's Xmas book, as well as FaLaLa Felt. But I've had the MS book 25 years, and it cost quite a lot back then. I haven't used any of the recipes in the 5 years I've lived in this house. Maybe it should go... "How many Christmas books?" is a good question. I do not need to make any more decorations for my house (esp as downsizing for retirement) and a recipe is a recipe all year round. I don't need a book to remind me to garnish with a sprig of Holly or sprinkle stars on a pudding...
ReplyDeleteOops! Sorry, Angela! Don't mean to make anyone feel guilty! :D I used to belong to several "Book of the Month" type of mail order book clubs, so most of the books were bought at a discount. I don't know if her books are as popular now as they used to be (probably not), but, hopefully, someone will find a use for it.
DeleteYes I budget for car maintenance, putting money aside every month.
ReplyDeleteYou brought a smile to my face when you said it was cooler with temperatures in the 90s, as it is so cold here I've switched the central heating back on... the forecast is for a low today of 10°!
I'm having my hair cut today and then off to the printers to get the music ready for band on Saturday.
Brr! I'm sorry it is so cold, there, that you need to turn on the heat! Hope it warms up a bit, soon.
DeleteI just had my car in for an oil change and a brake job and the bill was $600. Fixing a car is never cheap, but it's a whole lot cheaper than buying a new one.
ReplyDeleteYou are right - car repairs are never cheap, but, they are cheaper than buying a new car. My car is 5 years old, now. To me, it's still quite new (I tend to keep my cars for 12-14 years, before getting a new one).
DeleteI'm sure you would prefer it was cooler but we could do with a bit of warmth over here right now. It's turned cold and wet and windy - very unseasonable.
ReplyDeleteMy car is in for a service next week so I'm hoping it won't need too much work - there is one issue which I know about but I'm keeping my fingers crossed for everything else.
I'm keeping up with my blog reading but apologies if I don't comment as often. I'll be glad when my studying is finished. 😆 X
I'm sending you some of our temperatures, Jules! Hope it arrives and makes it a bit warmer for you! Hope your car service doesn't cost too much. You take all the time you need to get through your studying. Don't worry about not commenting as often. Hope things are going well.
DeleteYou really have a lot of books about Christmas, very intetesting books I have to say! In here it is slightly colder too, bit stormy, but still hot ☺
ReplyDeleteI love looking at Christmas decorations and all the wonderful recipes. I used to decorate a lot for Christmas (and a lot of other holidays, too), but, not so much, now.
DeleteI hope it continues to cool down for you, until it gets to be a comfortable temperature. Try to keep cool as much as you can.
See Bless, you can pick one Christmas book per year and do decorations around the house. Then every year you will have new, unique decorations. 😁🎄
ReplyDeleteGroan! Nil, you are supposed to encourage me to declutter, NOT give me ideas and more reasons to hold on to the books! :D LOL.
DeleteIn the 90's only! It is unusually cold here for June...40's to 50 at night and just 60's to low 70's during the day. I think our May was warmer. I'm not sure if I remember what 90 feels like...lol. These days there are too many Christmas books...and also other books such as gardening, etc. Maybe it is too easy to publish lately. Andrea
ReplyDeleteHope it warms up nicely, later in the month, for you, Andrea. Today was much cooler, here. Quite comfortable, actually. Sigh; I have quite a few gardening books, too!
DeleteI laughed to read that the Indian cooking show was making you feel hungry. I have the same problem when I come across interesting recipes on-line, and I get "the munchies".
ReplyDeleteI don't have a single Christmas book and I no longer buy or borrow Christmas magazines. I would only find myself feeling inadequate at not being able to quickly recreate a decoration or recipe that took a team of 6, two weeks to accomplish!
Cooking shows, in general, make me feel hungry, but yesterday's show was in the early afternoon (my appointment was at noon) and I hadn't had lunch! I did end up eating the granola bar that I had in my purse...
DeleteI just love to look at the decorations shown in those books. Everything is a bit over the top, and I don't have the energy to decorate that way, but, I love looking at them.
