Family Get-Together on Saturday!

I slept in, this morning (as usual), and spent a relaxed rest of the morning.  Cousin P called around noon to find out if I was going to the family get-together in the afternoon and, if so, could I give her a ride; I confirmed that I was going and will give her a ride.  The get together was being held by her cousin R, actually, to celebrate R's husband's birthday..  It was being held at 3:00 p.m.; we left home around 2:00 p.m., but there was so much traffic that it actually took 1 1/2 hours to get there.  As always, there was plenty of food, conversation, and laughs.  My cousin who is visiting from Australia was also there, so I was able to meet and chat with her, as well.  We were there until almost 7:00 p.m.  The party was still going on, when cousin P and I left.  We got home shortly after 8:00 p.m.  I had a cup of tea and rested.

Friend R called after I got home and I had a nice chat with her.  We might go out to lunch, tomorrow, depending on how long the event at the temple takes.

Today, I am grateful for:
- Family get togethers
- Being with my cousins and good friends
- A safe drive there and back
- Phone calls from friends
- Chatting with my daughter

Today's joyful activity was getting together with the cousins and extended family.

I am glad I didn't have any cleaning tasks scheduled for today, because I didn't do any!  I didn't do any sewing, either!

Saturday's To Do List:
Attend a family get together/give a ride to cousin P - DONE
- Finish sewing the sweater
- Mend daughter's quilt

Sunday:
- Attend the temple function
- Do the dishes
- Clean the litter box
- Sweep the bathroom floor, around the litter box
- Go out to lunch with friend R?
- Finish sewing the sweater
- Mend the quilt

How was your Saturday?  What are your plans for Sunday?

  1. It must be wonderful to be able to enjoy a get together with family and to get to see your cousin.
It sounds as though you had a great time and a day away from your cleaning schedule too. X

    1. It was good to celebrate the day with family and a few friends. I am trying to keep the weekends free from cleaning, unless I feel like doing something. I'm hoping it will keep me more motivated to clean during the week.

  2. Is that the first time you've met your cousin from Australia? It sounds like you had a good time with your family - a day full of food, conversation and laughter is a form of medicine and will do you more good than keeping up with your chores list. Maybe take a day off from chores when you have this sort of event to look forward to?

    1. Eileen, this particular cousin makes annual visits to the US, so I have been getting to see her once a year. I will definitely take time off from the cleaning schedule when I have such events to attend, but, I am hoping I'll be able to fit in the cleaning around them. :) We'll see how it goes...I am taking it one week at a time, where the cleaning is scheduled! Just yesterday, my visiting cousin said that it's been 2 years since she retired and she still hasn't gone through all the closets and cupboards that she had been planning to go through! It's not quite 6 months since I officially retired, so I am

    2. Oops! It published itself before I was done! Anyway, what I was saying was, I still have a little time to finish organizing my house!

  3. Such a lovely way to spend a Saturday afternoon, especially after a week of adhering to your goal of maintaining your maintenance schedule. Those family get-togethers always sound like so much fun.

My plans for today might include some die cutting, using a Cricut cartridge that I borrowed from my daughter. She has several cartridges that I don't have, so I use her collection as a lending library. Lucky me!

    1. I had a fun afternoon, Susan. It was sad, too, in a way, because it was perhaps the first family get together I've attended where there weren't any of the aunts, present. As one cousin put it, we are the older generation, now.

That's so nice that your daughter shares her die cutting cartridges with you! I'm sure you'll enjoy making die cuts, today.

  4. It sounds like you had a great time with your family. Traffic can be heavy in LA, even on the weekends. That's nice that your cousin comes to visit once a year. Yesterday I did a lot of planting and chatted with a friend on the phone. Today I am meeting with a knitter to knit.

    1. I did have a good time getting together with the family, yesterday. It was a lot of fun. It seems there's traffic on our freeways, no matter what time of the day or night!

Ooh, what did you plant? I need to dig up another planting bed and sew more vegetable seeds - the mourning doves ate all the tops off my beans and peas!

How nice to be getting together with another knitter! I hope you both had a fun time, socializing and knitting! :)

  5. What fun to be with so many family members, and cleaning can always wait, it will get done soon enough. I don't clean or shop on Sundays if I can help it, but I don't mind doing some sewing or baking. In fact I made some squares this afternoon.

The weather was rather damp and gloomy and rained around suppertime, and the sap hasn't been flowing too freely, but every year we have days like this during maple syrup season.
Supper was easy yesterday (takeout Chinese) and today (reheated remains of the same). Our local Chinese restaurant does really good food. I cook the rice at home as it is so easy to do and saves having an extra container to bring home.

    1. It was nice to spend time with family, Bushlady. I'm going to try and keep the weekends free of cleaning tasks. That's the plan, at least.

I hope your weather improves. I wish I could send you some of our sunshine and warmth. But, I'm sure spring will be there, soon.
