Rainy Weekend

It started raining around midnight on Friday night and rained most of Saturday!  The rain ceased for awhile on Saturday afternoon for a bit, but, by evening, it was raining again and it continued to rain all Saturday night.  It rained all Sunday morning too, but it ceased raining a little after noon.  However, more rain is in the forecast!  I am glad we are having all this rain, because the garden is getting a good soaking.

I didn't attend the funeral on Saturday, due to the weather; I didn't want to risk getting a relapse, just as I am starting to feel better.  Instead, I spent a quiet day at home, blogging, reading, relaxing, and talking with family and friends on the phone.

For dinner, I thawed a piece of previously cooked salmon steak, some curried green beans, dhal (lentil) curry, and rice (about 1/3 cup); but when I went to eat it, I found out that I was fine without the rice, so I pushed most of the rice aside and didn't eat it.

For dessert, I made a compote with the blackberries I had in the fridge; I cooked them in a bit of water and 1 teaspoon of sugar (normally, I would have used at least a couple of tablespoons!).

As I was eating it, I thought how much better it would taste if served on a piece of sponge cake, or, on a waffle, or with a bit of ice cream , etc.  But, it was quite satisfying on its own, too.  There's another serving in the fridge to be eaten later.

Dancer, being as curious as ever, came to check it out!

"What you eating, Mummy?"

Much later in the night, I began to crave a salad!  I hadn't felt like eating a salad in several days, so I decided to have a salad as a late night snack!

Late Night Snack
That finished the cucumber I had bought and most of the bag of carrots (I have one carrot left), and much of the lettuce, too.

Plans for the rest of the afternoon include watching the Superbowl, as I enjoy watching American football, especially since our hometown team is playing (Go L.A. Rams!) and knitting.

This weekend, I am grateful for:
- The rain we have been getting
- A good roof above my head!
- A warm home
- Recovering from the cold and cough
- Phone calls from family and friends

How is your weekend coming along?

  1. I'm glad that you felt like eating salad again. While I have had plenty of vegetables, I haven't had a salad in a while. That's why it's on the menu for tonight.

    1. Glad to see that salad was on your menu for tonight! It was back on my menu, too! :) Now, I really need to go grocery shopping as I finished the last carrot and there is only a small wedge of the lettuce left!

  2. Oh yes, Dancer was curious. Look at his face! LOL He does have a very curious look there. :)

    1. He says he needs to check out what I am eating to make sure I am eating only stuff that is good for me, and not because he wants to see if it is something he could have!

  3. Nice that you are having enough rain that the garden gets what it needs without additional watering.
I think you were very wise to avoid the funeral in rainy weather. There is no point is possibly relapsing..

    1. Yes, I'm very appreciative of the rain. We really need this rain.

One of my cousins called me, today, and said they all got wet because the wind was strong and blew all the umbrellas inside out!

  4. Rain water is so much better than tap water for your garden plants, I am glad you are getting your fair share of it lately. I don't ever remember reading so many blog posts about rainy weather as I have this past month. That is wonderful. Your peach tree will thrive in all of this rain. Kudos for giving up your rice portion and sugar in your fruit serving. Berries are an excellent choice for low carb diets. I can almost see Dancer's nose quivering in the photo.

    1. Hopefully, the rain will seep deep down to where the roots are. Often, when I water, I only do a surface watering, which might wet the top inch or so of soil, not a deep watering, in order to save on the amount of water I use. I am hoping that the rain is helping the peach tree to get established before the summer heat arrives. No doubt we'll have a bumper crop of weeds, too, this year! :D

Thank you, Susan; I was pleasantly surprised to see that I didn't miss the rice or mind the reduced sugar. Yes, I read that berries are a better choice as they have less carbs per serving than other fruit. I'm learning! :)

Ha, ha, sometimes, his nose quivers so much, he resembles a rabbit!

Hope all is well with you.

  5. The good thing about rain is that you don't have to shovel it! But too much rain can be a problem, too, and I read that in Australia they are having floods.
There was a big funeral today for a man at our church and the forecast was for freezing rain, but fortunately it didn't happen, although on the way home after the lunch, I noticed that fine misty rain was starting to freeze where the wipers didn't touch it. I was glad to get home. According to the radar there is nothing much going on, but looking at the radar west of here, something big is heading our way. How boring it would be if we only had warm sunny days, but I think I could handle it for a while!

    1. Yes, that is true, unless the rain results in mudslides, etc., which do require shoveling! Fortunately, I don't live in a mudslide prone area!

Glad the freezing rain didn't happen until after the funeral and you were able to get home, safely.

Yes, we get our fair share of warm sunny days, here, in the summer! Sometimes, a bit too warm, but, that's OK. :)

It rained again, this morning, but now, the sun is trying to shine through the clouds. I am wondering if the rain would hold off long enough for me to do a quick grocery run!

  6. We've had a lot of rain, too. As you said, it's wonderful for the garden. I took advantage of the sun coming out this afternoon and took Lula for a bike ride. You are wise to eat the foods that you crave. I wish that I craved salad, like you.

    1. How lovely to hear from you, again! I'm glad the rain didn't bring any damage to your area and you took the opportunity to go for a bike ride, today. I was actually quite shocked to realize that I was craving a salad! But, it's a good thing to crave, isn't it? :)
