Clear on Tuesday

It rained practically all night, last night.  I don't know if it rained early this morning, but, by the time I woke up, there was no rain.  It remained cloudy and overcast until the afternoon, and then, there was bright sunshine.

I was woken up by a phone call (a number I didn't recognize, so I let it go to the answering machine and whoever it was, declined to leave a message).  I couldn't fall asleep after that, so I got up, as it was already past 9:30 a.m.  However, I felt tired.  I also have a blocked ear!  I think my sinuses are congested on that side and that caused the ear to get blocked.  It doesn't hurt, but feels weird!

I felt cold this morning, so I sat near the heater and spent the morning responding to blog comments and reading and commenting on other blogs.

Lunch was a salad:

Lunch Salad
I used the last bit of the old head of lettuce, a carrot, half a cucumber, half a peach, and the last piece of the beef pepper steak, shredded, plus salad dressing.  It was a yummy salad and I enjoyed it.

In the afternoon, I brought in the trash cans (trash collection was late, today), and checked the mail.  The weekly grocery ads came in the mail, today.  I took a quick look through them.  Zucchini is on sale for $.39/lb., this week, but I still have two of the zucchinis I bought earlier!  Eggs are on sale for $.79/doz. at another store, but I still have 10 eggs left in the dozen I bought earlier, as I only eat 1-2 eggs per week, 3 at the very most (due to cholesterol concerns, and I don't want to throw away the yolk and eat only the egg whites, either, as that seems like a waste of money, to me).

After that, I took a nap on the sofa!  I slept for almost 3 hours!  I had opened the windows to air out the house before I took the nap; when I woke up, the house was cold!  I quickly shut the windows and turned on the heater!  Normally, I wait a little after I close the windows to turn on the heater, but, not today!

Friend R called in the evening and I had a nice chat with her.  Later, I spoke with Aunt C and exchanged emails with a friend.

For dinner, I had rice (from the freezer), leftover green beans, and some of the mackerel curry I made, yesterday, along with a cucumber salad:

Dinner: Rice, green beans, mackerel curry, cucumber salad

I warmed up the frozen rice and fluffed it up to see if it had warmed up, thoroughly, before I took the photo, so the plate looks messy!  I'll never make it as a food stylist!  LOL.

Later in the evening, I video chatted with my daughter.

Tomorrow is supposed to be a sunny day.  I am planning to go to the grocery store, to buy cat food for Dancer, a loaf of bread and a bottle of orange juice for myself.

Today, I am grateful for:
- Being retired and able to take it easy when I feel like it
- Afternoon naps
- A working heater
- A break from the rain
- Video chatting with my daughter; chatting on the phone with family and friends.

How was your Tuesday?  What have you planned for Wednesday?

  1. Your food always looks delicious Bless and reminds me that I really should eat more salad than I do.
I hope your sinuses clear soon. It must feel uncomfortable and I hope it doesn't upset your balance.
I needed to get Mog some more food this last week, she's eating sooo much at the moment. She only eats dried food and I order it online at a good price. Her food costs £26 and the minimum for free delivery is £29. Rather than pay a delivery charge I order some extra sachets of food and donate it to the rescue centre food bank. X

    1. Thank you, Jules. I am learning to like salads! I hope it continues! It fills me up and I feel virtuous for having avoided carbs such as bread, pasta, potatoes, and rice (although I did eat rice for dinner).

The blocked ear feels strange, but, so far, it hasn't affected my balance! Which is a good thing!

That is very kind of you to order the extra food to donate to the rescue centre. Dancer used to eat only dry food, but, since his tooth extraction, I've been giving him some wet food, as well, and now that he's feeling better, he seems to like it. The wet food is given in addition to the dry food - a quarter or so of a can in the morning and, again, in the evening. He looks forwards to it. :)

  2. Wednesday's plans have gone out of the window. My PC has failed and I cannot access some documents I planned to work on today. Bob is out at a breakfast meeting but hopes to fix it later. I'm regarding this as an opportunity to chill out and do other less important tasks!

    1. Oh, sorry to hear about the PC troubles, Angela. Hope Bob is able to fix it! Yes, take this opportunity to relax or do some crafting. You are supposed to be taking it easy, anyway, aren't you? :)

  3. I hope you're not coming down with something! There seems to be a lot going around right now.

    1. Sharon, actually, I am getting over a cold and cough that I had all last week. This is just a residual effect from that, I think. At least, that is what I am hoping - I'd hate to have a relapse! You are right - there is a lot going around and even with the flu shot, one is not immune to everything.

  4. If you like eggs, you might talk to your doctor about eating more. Studies have shown that the cholesterol in eggs does little to affect the cholesterol levels in the body. Many nutritionist/doctors say there doesn't need to be a limit on the number of eggs you consume. This is a change from the years of limit your eggs because of their cholesterol content that I grew up with.

    1. That is interesting; I shall bring it up with my doctor. Actually, I don't like eggs all that much, so 3 a week is probably what I'd eat, anyway. It's just that, trying to eat low carb, breakfasts are a bit of a challenge and a scrambled egg is often the easiest thing I can think of!

  5. I hope your sinuses clear soon, Bless.

I see you also have my type of naps. :) I can never have 10-20 minutes naps. It's always at least 2 hours.

    1. Thank you, Nil. Yes, LONG afternoon naps! They have to be on the sofa in the living room - the afternoon sun coming through the window. :) Sometimes, Dancer naps with me. Other times, he comes and meows at me, usually around 4:30 p.m. and, if I don't wake up, at 5:00 p.m., and so on - "Are you still sleeping, Mummy? What about my tea time snack?" (He gets some of his wet food in the evening, when I make my tea). If I don't respond, he grumbles to himself as he settles down to wait for another half an hour! :D

  6. A nap on the couch seems like such a great idea right about now. I also need at least two hours sleep. There is no sun today. We have freezing rain and ice pellets. Our fire department has also responded to two highway accidents already today, so there is a glut of traffic on the highway outside my house that has been diverted from the 401 to Highway 2. This is a good day to stay inside and nap.

You are making short order on that bag of cucumbers you bought. One down and three to go??

    1. Sounds like a good day for you to stay in and take an afternoon nap, Susan!

Fortunately, I love cucumbers, so, eating them up won't be a hardship. I can't remember, but was it you who said you ate cucumber slices with cheese, instead of crackers? I haven't tried that (I am not much of a cheese eater), but, I can have a dish of cucumber slices by themselves as a snack at any time.

    2. Yes, you have a great memory. In fact yesterday I was going to suggest eating them like crackers when I saw you had a whole bag of them, but remembered you are not a big fan of cheeses like I am. Of course you could use other toppings with them, but sliced with a little sprinkle of salt is always delicious.

    3. Aha! I thought it was you! :D Maybe I'll try them with cheese, tomorrow.

  7. I'm glad you are getting sunny days now. And it is nice you are retired since you don't get much sleep at night. I've been eating salads for lunch lately. They do taste good! Andrea

    1. Yes, we are supposed to have sunny days until the weekend, when it is supposed to rain, again! I am enjoying retired life and being able to sleep in and take afternoon naps! I'm trying to have at least one salad a day...still a bit hit or miss, but, making progress. :)

  8. I can't even imagine having a hard time going through an extra dozen of eggs around here, since we eat them almost daily and my nephew has been on an egg-loving kick when he visits. So, we use a lot and my aunt gets them for me when there is a limit:)

Here's a thought (take it or leave it no problem if it's not for you): 79c/doz is super cheap food, even if you only eat part of them. Could an animal, such as a cat eat the egg yolks scrambled if you didn't choose to eat them? Or, could you do 1 yolk and 2 whites and it would be less yolks, but only a few would be wasted? I'm kind of with the commenter above--we haven't noticed that eating eggs almost daily is affecting the cholesterol levels--Rob just got his checked and it was very good and he eats them a LOT:). I've tried everything to get them down, since they aren't my favorite, either. Hot sauce/salsa on top helps, cheese helps, scrambled gently and not overdone helps, putting them on a piece of gluten-free toast or bun (rarely since I don't eat bread all that much), but, best of all--when Rob makes me a mushroom omelet from them. He usually does that most Sunday mornings. Good luck getting them down:). They are a great low-carb food.

    1. I am sure the garden cats would love some egg yolks! I did think about buying them and freezing them, but decided not to.

  9. An afternoon nap sounds so nice, but it evades me all the time.
Sinus issues are no fun, plus it makes me talk funny.
I eat a salad or a cabbage slaw every day. Not really because I want it, but it is filling and low carb.

    1. I try not to nap too much, because it makes it harder to go to sleep at night! But, some afternoons, that sofa calls my name and I can't resist!

Yes, I am trying to have a salad every day, because, as you say, it is low carb and it gets some veggies into me. Today, however, I skipped the salad (but I had veggies with dinner).
