Restful Sunday

Today has been a chilly, cloudy, day.  Although I generally try to open the windows and air out the house in the afternoon, today, I kept the windows closed and the heater on, all day!  January and February tend to be our coldest months.

I took it easy, today, and didn't do anything much.  I woke up with a slight headache, but, that wore off later in the day.  My blood pressure and sugar levels were good and under control for the most part; but, towards the end of the day, the blood pressure numbers climbed up a bit above what the doctor recommended they should be, so I took the first medication for it since Friday morning!  I have another doctor's appointment, tomorrow (a different doctor, the gastroenterologist, and I need to call and confirm before I go); most probably they, too, will check my pressure, so it won't be just me checking it with my little monitor.

Aunt C called in the morning and we had a nice chat.  She said she was wearing the socks I had knitted and given her, a couple of years ago, as it was a cold day.  Time to knit more socks, I think!  Neighbor T called, too, for our regular Sunday morning chat.

Dancer is on the mend, I feel.  He has been eating his regular dry food, but has been giving a wide berth to the soft food!  He meowed at me, once, a rather small, tentative meow, when I was making my lunch, so I offered him some soft food (the dry food is available at any time, now).  He just looked at the first spoonful of "white fish and tuna pate" but didn't go near it!  I put spoon of "salmon pate", as well, on the same plate, and he sniffed at it cautiously, but decided he didn't want any of it!  The garden cats had no problem with it, though!  LOL!

Today, I am grateful for:
- A restful day
- A working heater
- Phone calls from aunt C and neighbor T
- Chatting with my daughter
- Dancer and I are both doing OK

Monday's To Do List:
- Call the doctor's office to confirm appointment
- Go to the appointment/or schedule a new one
- Grocery shop for fresh produce
- Clean out the fridge
- Take the trash cans to the curb
- Do the dishes

How was your Sunday?  What are your plans for tomorrow and the upcoming week?

  1. Have you tried softening Dancer's kibble a little in water? He may not need any softer food since he seems to be tolerating the dry food okay. However, that's what I do with my cats sometimes.

    1. Thank you for that suggestion. I haven't tried softening it; I shall do so, today, and see if he likes it. :)

  2. Glad to hear that both you and Dancer are on the mend. Of course, having an improvement in Dancer is automatically going to help with your own recovery.

I see you have on your daily to-do list, shopping for fresh produce. Is this an indication of your desire to eat less processed carbohydrates? My only suggestion is to buy lots. Without rice, bread or pasta, you will be filling up more on vegetables.

    1. Thank you, Susan. Yes, I am not as worried about Dancer as I was, earlier. :)

Yes, I need to cut down on the carbs and eat more vegetables. I know people have been telling me that for years, but, I am dense! It has taken this long for it to really sink into me! Also, I haven't bought any fresh produce for the past couple of weeks, and all I have left now is celery, some beets (which have been in the fridge forever, it seems), a mango, a banana, and 1 1/2 apples for fresh produce! I want to get some salad ingredients, green beans, etc., and more fruit.

  3. Glad Dancer is doing better! He sounds as though he is on his way to forgiving you. I want to try knitting socks but they seem so intimidating.

    1. He meowed a greeting to me, this morning! And consented to being picked up and hugged (only for a minute, but he didn't struggle, at once). But, he refused the tuna I gave him. Oh, well.

I have one favorite sock pattern that I make all the time. It is from an old 1970s knitting book, but it works for me. It is knitted in the round with 4 double pointed needles, so there is that. But, there are some instructions online for knitting socks with two straight needles, too. Maybe something to try?

  4. Hope your day goes well today. I think it is wonderful that you have not needed your bp meds since Friday. Fingers crossed for a great appointment today.

    1. Thank you, Anne. I needed to take my medications, last night, but it was OK, this morning. I think I might need a lower dosage, but that is for the medical team to decide.

  5. Hi Bless,
Wanted to wish you a belated happy new year. I broke my arm on 12/19 and this is the first time I've been on the computer, all be it one-handed. lol. I'm off work on disability until 2/1 for now. may need surgery, but will find out tomorrow when I see the shoulder specialist. not sure how that will affect my thyroid surgery. I see that doctor on 1/21. Going crazy not being able to do anything. I wish you and your daughter a wonderful new year!

    1. My goodness, Mia, I'm so sorry to hear about your arm! What happened? Did you fall? I hope you don't need surgery, but, if you do, then, I hope the procedure goes well and you recover quickly and as pain-free as possible! Hope it won't affect your thyroid surgery, but, I'm sure the doctors will be able to decide what is best. Happy New Year to you and yours and very gentle (((HUGS)))

  6. I'm glad you have been taking it easy. I think January is not a month to be overly busy unless one has no choice. DH and I have been reading a lot and heading down to the library just for the fun of checking out the new titles and perhaps relaxing with a newspaper or magazine.
Dancer may be blaming the earlier prescribed soft food diet for his sore mouth. Perhaps he is reluctant to try it again. At least it doesn't go to waste and the garden cats must be very happy to get his leftovers. I hope he soon enjoys his pates again.

I got into a satisfying little craft project for a couple of days. I had some slipper mules that I didn't feel were safe to wear on the stairs. They are black and I found some black yarn and began to crochet a strip for one of them, which I began to join around the edge of the rest of the sole with some strong button thread, so that it would be the right length. Increasing at each end I added rows back and forth until it was high enough at the back for my heel, then fastened off. I sewed the increased end pieces each side to the front, making a firm and comfortable slipper. It was surprisingly easy to do, and I soon did the other to match.

    1. Thank you, Bushlady; I guess we need to take it easy in January after all the hustle and bustle of December.

That is what I thought about Dancer and the soft food - he probably blames it for his sore mouth. But, today, he meowed in the evening, when I was in the kitchen, so I opened a new can of tuna and gave him a little...and he ate it! He didn't eat what I gave him in the morning, on a paper plate; but he ate what I gave him in the evening, on his regular china plate! LOL!

What a clever idea for the slipper mules! You made them safer and probably, a little bit warmer, as well!

  8. That's a nuisance, having to monitor your blood pressure so closely. Do you just do it at set times throughout the day, or just when you feel strange?

    1. I've been checking it throughout the day, not set times as such, but, when I wake up, in the afternoon, evening, at night before bed. More or less every time I check my blood sugar.
