Aachoo!

Cough, cough.

I have a full blown cold and cough and I feel miserable.

I did go to my appointment with the gastroenterologist to find out the results of my blood test and see if I needed to undergo that additional test he had mentioned (to check the small intestines).  Fortunately, the blood test results came back OK; my iron levels were fine, he said.  I don't need to take the iron supplements, any more, and I don't need any further testing.  But, he asked me to come back in 4 months' time to do another blood test, just to make sure everything continued to be OK.  I was so happy when he said the blood tests were good!  It was an answered prayer!

After I came home, I had a scrambled egg for a late lunch.  Later, I had a roast beef sandwich (1 slice of bread) for dinner, followed by another slice of bread and peanut butter.  Oops!  So much for being low carb!  I also took two Tylenol tablets because the cold was making me feel achy and ill.

I took the trash cans to the curb, but that was all the housework I did, today.  I rested a bit on the sofa and finished knitting the back of my grey sweater.  I need to decide on the design for the front.  The back has an overall pattern:

Grey Sweater: Back
I am debating whether to do the same overall pattern in the front, too, or combine it with a central panel of cables.

Today, I am grateful for:
- The blood test results came out well
- I don't need to do any additional tests
- I don't need to take any more iron supplements
- Phone calls from family (aunt C and cousin P)
- Video chatting with my daughter

I haven't made any plans for tomorrow.  I am just going to take it easy and rest; hopefully, I can recover from this cold and cough.

How was your Monday?  What are your plans for tomorrow?

  1. Oh, that's not good news. I hope you feel better soon. Your sweater is lovely - is that another pattern you've made up yourself and if so, I think you are so clever. I can't even knit properly let alone make up a pattern!

    1. Thank you, Eileen. I hate getting colds.

No, I don't make up knitting patterns, myself. I have a book of knitting stitch patterns. What I do is pick and choose which pattern(s) I want on my sweaters and figure out how many stitches are needed for a sweater to fit me, etc. I am averse to making test swatches to get a gauge, so, there is always a bit of guess work and wondering if the end product is going to fit well or be too big! There is no worry about it being too small - if that ever happens, it goes to my daughter!

  2. I'm glad you got good results from the doctor and hope that your cold is better soon. You know what they say, "A cold lasts 7 days if you treat it and a week if you don't." You can treat it symptoms, but usually it just has to run its course. They are no fun.

    1. Thank you, Live and Learn; I was so thankful the test results were good. :) Yes, a cold has to run its course. I am just grateful that I don't have to go to work and can take it easy at home. Maybe I'll make some chicken soup...Our traditional treatment for a cold is coriander tea, but, I need a couple of spoons of sugar in it, in order to make it palatable!

  3. That pattern is beautiful. You are such a gifted knitter. The extent of my knitting is a very simple dish cloth pattern. Ha.

So sorry that cold caught up with you. Get lots of rest and vitamin C from your backyard and you will be feeling better in no time. Otherwise, your health is great. Your iron is good and you don't need further testing.

    1. Thank you, Susan. The pattern is called "Little Birds" in my knitting stitch patterns book.

Yes, other than the cold and cough, I am OK. :) I am very glad to hear that my iron levels are back to normal. They don't know why it went down, last year, but it seems to have been a one-time thing.

I'm relieved to read your blood results have come back OK. X

    1. Thank you, Jules. I'm just taking it easy, reading and knitting. I think I will make a pot of chicken soup, too - that should soothe the throat and be nourishing and comforting, too. Yes, the blood test results were good and I am so thankful!

    1. Thank you, Nil. I don't like coriander tea without sugar, so, because I am trying to cut down on sugar intake, I am not drinking any! I made chicken soup, instead, and will have that.

  6. I do hope you soon get over this wretched cold. It's about time someone found a cure! Well, at least you managed to get to the specialist and I'm glad you got good results from your blood work. That must be a relief.
Have fun with the sweater. It looks good. This evening I couldn't resist tormenting myself by starting another "will it/won't it work out" project. I'm using 3 different yarns which I believe are enough to make a striped vest that I can wear over a blouse. It could be great! I have a pattern which I am basing it on for dimensions, otherwise not the same.

    1. Thank you, Bushlady. I feel a little better, today, but still sneezing and coughing and my voice is more of a croak than anything else!

Yes, I was very relieved to hear that the blood test results were good. :) It means I don't have to swallow a camera at the end of a tube, all the way down to my intestines!

Oh! Good luck with your new knitting project! I'm sure it will turn out well! I've knitted with two or three different yarns with good results! I used leftover yarn from other projects. One was a sleeveless top, color blocked in the front, with a lilac colored right angled triangle going up from the waist to one shoulder, a white yarn right angled triangle going in the opposite direction (from the other shoulder and neckline to the waist) and a grey stripe between the two to separate the colors, with a grey band at the waist, along the top and edging the armholes. The back was in the lilac yarn, I believe (it's been awhile since I knitted it - back in the mid-80s - and I no longer have the garment). The lilac yarn was sort of fuzzy (imitation mohair), the grey was metallic, and the white was just regular white acrylic yarn.

    2. That colour blocked top sounds lovely. I actually have a pattern for a sweater with colour blocking which I used for my striped sweater. I must be hooked on stripes!

    3. Stripes are lovely, too. I have a short sleeved knit top I made using blue and white yarn (two types of yarn, the blue is a wool blend) from leftovers after I knitted a sweater for my daughter. :)
