It was a gloomy, overcast day, today. There was rain in the forecast, but it didn't actually rain until evening. Then, we had a good shower of rain.
Daughter and I woke up at 8:00 a.m. to give Dancer his pain medication - it is a two person undertaking, with both of us holding him and forcing his mouth open while daughter squirts the medicine into his cheek pouch and Dancer doing his best to avoid it! Afterwards, we gave him half a can of soft food and he was very happy!
Then, I went to feed the outside cats and that's when I discovered that we had forgotten to hide the bag of hairball formula dry cat food. Dancer doesn't much care for it, but he had knocked it over sometime in the night, and since it was open, some food had fallen out. I don't know if he ate any of it or not! The only reason they said to give him soft food was to allow his gums to heal; I am hoping he didn't eat much of the hard food. He isn't showing any signs of distress, so I am going to assume everything is OK. I have since locked away that bag of food, too!
The vet's office called to check up on him, which I thought was nice of them to do. They said to call them if I had any concerns. One question they asked was if he had used the litter box as normal. I know he used it once, late last night, but I haven't heard him use it since. So, now, I am worried about that! Hopefully, he'll resume using it, tomorrow, and all will be well. Otherwise, I might have to take him back to the vet!
My daughter tried to go back to sleep after she gave him the medicine and couldn't; she was not happy about that! I tried to stay up and couldn't! LOL! I fell asleep on the sofa and slept till noon! I only woke up because I was feeling hungry! I got up and made some milk rice, which daughter and I both ate for lunch. Dancer had another quarter of a can of food for lunch.
In the afternoon, I altered the dress and skirt. The dress, which I changed from a short sleeved dress to a sleeveless dress now fits me better than it did before, so I have reclaimed it! LOL. Daughter is content with the skirt, which I re-hemmed for her.
Later in the evening, after dinner (leftovers), I did a load of dishes and handwashed a few items. I really didn't feel like doing today's exercises, but my daughter coaxed me to doing them; she did 100 crunches, I managed 70. Tomorrow's set is kneeling on one knee with the other leg stretched out to the side, but the foot pointing to the front, and at the beginner level (which is what I do), you hold your arms out to the side and bend to the side to touch the floor by your bent knee (daughter, doing it at an advanced level, will reach to the side with both arms); 50 on each side! Wish me luck!
Today, I am grateful for:
- Dancer seems to be recovering well
- The vet's office calling to check on him
- Daughter being home to help with giving him medicine
- The rain we received
- A working dishwasher
Sunday's To Do List:
- Paperwork
- Start taking down and putting away the Christmas decorations
It's good to read Dancer is recovering well, although, your medication story has just reminded me Mog needs her worming tablet today. It is not something I relish doing. X
ReplyDeleteOh, good luck with that, Jules! Dancer says, "Be brave, Mog!"
DeleteOh, the joys of giving medicine to a cat. They always make it look so easy in the vet's office, but then you get them home. One of my cats gets meds twice a day and he struggles, but not as much as Lucky did (the stories I could tell). Good luck to you, Little Bless, and Dancer.
ReplyDeleteYes, they do make it look easy at the vet's, don't they? Thanks, we need all the luck we can get! There are just two more doses to give, thank goodness!
DeleteHa, ha. Nice that you were able to reclaim a new piece for your wardrobe. Good thing your daughter was okay with that. It is also good to hear that Dancer is recuperating well. The fact that he has used the litter box since the surgery is a good sign. Remember, his system was running on empty.
ReplyDeleteI am feeling very antsy this weekend. It has been a week since I slammed my thumb and it is getting tiresome not being able to do everything I want to do. I may have to keep working on my files to keep busy.
Well, daughter gets to borrow the dress when she comes home. :)
DeleteDancer seems to be his usual self, today. He's not happy that he isn't getting his regular, dry food; he's been pawing at the handle of the laundry room door where the bags of dry food are stored! But, he's happily eating the canned soft food, which has been given only as a treat prior to this!
I can imagine you are chafing at the enforced rest! Now is the time to catch up on watching TV or shows, or reading, etc. Working on the files is good, too. I need to work on my files, one of these days.
Glad your cat is healing. I can't believe what it cost! Well, happy new year! Andrea
ReplyDeleteYes, pet care is expensive, here. Thank you; happy new year to you and yours, too, Andrea. :)
DeleteGlad to hear that Dancer is doing well. You certainly have to have your wits about you if he discovered the hairball formula dry cat food. How much longer does he have to have the medication for?
ReplyDeleteHis last dose of medicine will be given tomorrow morning. But he has to be on wet food for 2 weeks total, until his check up on the 18th, to allow his gums time to heal.
DeleteI'm looking back to the days of pilling one of our cats (wrap in towel to avoid scratches and then check to see if he managed to hide the pill in his mouth and then drop it down the hot air register). I am glad you are using a two person approach to Dancer's medication. You need a medal for doing all that and then still being able to do those exercises. You put me to shame!
ReplyDeleteThank goodness for leftovers, right? I found some nice cooked chicken breast in the freezer that I could thaw out. I just had to cook some potato and frozen corn to go with it. It was good to have an easier meal as I am still tired from the remains of the cold I had.
Giving cats medicine isn't easy, is it? Dancer received his last dose, this morning, which is a good thing because daughter leaves this afternoon! Now, all I have to do is give him his flea medicine!
DeleteLeftovers are a wonderful thing! I'm glad you had some that could be made into an easy meal for you while you are still recovering from your cold. Hope you feel better, soon.
