Rain on Tuesday, Too

This morning was overcast, but not rainy.  However, around 11:00 a.m., when I went outside to bring the trash cans in, it began to drizzle and it has been raining (a light rain, for the most part), ever since!

I did a couple of loads of laundry, today, including the knitted blankets I had out on the sofas, took down the Christmas items in the living room and dining room, did more dishes, and made a pot of  chicken and vegetables soup:

Chicken and Vegetables Soup
I used a bag of roast chicken bones and bits and pieces from the freezer, added a package of tomatoes and onions from the freezer, some celery from the fridge, and a can of mixed vegetables from the cupboard to make the soup.  I cut up the rest of the head of celery in small pieces and froze it, before it spoiled.   I don't like raw celery, but don't mind it in soups, etc.

Breakfast had been the last banana, before it got overripe; lunch was two bowls of the chicken soup.  Later, in the evening, instead of my usual cup of tea, I had another bowl of the chicken soup and a slice of bread and butter because my sugar level was low.  Dinner was a scrambled egg on multi-grain bread, toasted, and a slice of spicy, dehydrated mango for dessert.

I called my doctor in the morning with a question about my blood pressure medications, and left a message for her; she didn't call me back, so I called again in the evening and left another message.  However, she didn't return my call.  I suppose I will have to call again, tomorrow!  In the meantime, I am checking everything I am supposed to be checking and doing what I can to keep things even.  The blood pressure has been good; not too low but not high enough to take anything.

I read a bit in the afternoon, but I am unable to finish my second library book before it is due tomorrow.  So, I renewed both books online and will return them both before the next due date.  I am glad I am able to renew library books online.

Cousin P called to check on me in the afternoon and we chatted awhile.  Aunt C called, too, and friend R.  I called my cousin R to see how she was doing as she is a special-ed teacher and the teachers union is on strike!

Today, I am grateful for:
- Rain for the garden and the newly planted peach tree
- Soup from the freezer and cabinets
- Warm sweaters and scarves
- Phone calls from family and friends
- Being able to renew library books online

Tuesday's To Do List:
- Grocery shop (if not raining!)
- Do a load of laundry - DONE
- Put away the Christmas decorations!  (Yes, the tree is still up!) - DID SOME
- Do some housework - DID DISHES; WIPED DOWN KITCHEN COUNTERS

Wednesday's To Do List:
- Call the doctor's office, again
- Reschedule Thursday's medical appointment (severe rain in the forecast)
- Put away the rest of the Christmas decorations
- Housework: dust the living room, dining room, and family room

  1. We have the 'online renewal' arrangement at the libraries here. I find it SO useful. I hope you get to see the Dr soon.

    1. Thank you, Angela. So far, no returned phone calls, but, my blood pressure went up, last night and it was still up, this morning, so I took my medications. I guess I am no longer dehydrated?

  2. That soup looks delicious and it's a good way of using up leftovers. Like you, I much prefer celery when it's cooked.
It must be frustrating when your doctor doesn't return your calls but it's a good sign that your blood pressure has remained steady.
I finally packed away our Christmas decorations last weekend. I had already taken them down but just put them aside in the spare room, rather than packing them up properly. X

    1. The soup turned out to be quite good and just the thing for a rainy day. :)

Certain vegetables, such as celery, bell peppers, etc., cause stomach discomfort, when I eat them! Cooked, and in small quantities, they are OK.

Yes, it would have been nice if the doctor returned my calls. She always tells me to call, that she'll get back to me as soon as she can, but I know she's run off her feet with patients back to back. Anyway, my blood pressure rose, last night, and it was still up, this morning, so I decided to take my medications and just make sure I am well hydrated.

I had intended to take down and put away the Christmas stuff after January 6, but, then, all this other stuff happened and I decided it can wait. Besides, it is raining too much to take the boxes back to the garage for storage! (I have a detached garage.)

    1. Exactly my thoughts, Live and Learn. There is something about soup on cold, rainy days, isn't there?

  4. I hope you have more luck hearing from the doctor today and manage to get your blood pressure under control!

I love online renewing for the library. I don't always finish my books or something comes up (like the weather) and I can't get to the library to return my books. This last time my library automatically renewed two of my books! I ended up taking them back anyway. I am trying to read what I have so I wanted to return the books and I resisted picking up anymore. Hope you have a good Wednesday!

    1. Thank you, Sharon. I didn't hear from the doctor, yet, but, my pressure went up and so, I just went ahead and took my medications. I guess they went down because I was dehydrated and now that I am hydrated, again, they are back up! I don't know.

I, too, have some books, on my shelves, that I need to read, before I borrow more library books! And after I read them, I ought to release them! That is the hard part!

Thank you; I hope you have a good day, too.

  5. When it rains, it pours...you are getting your rain lately. Frustrating when the dr's office doesn't return calls! Andrea

    1. Andrea, it sure does! Either we get too little rain or we get a lot of it all at once! But, my garden is getting a good watering, so that is a blessing.

  6. Your soup looks delicious. Is it cold over there?
Here we are having cooler days (low 60 s in the morning) so I'm enjoying lots of hot soup. :)

I hope you will be able to talk to the doctor today.

    1. Thank you, Nil. Yes, it is "cold" by our standards! In the 40s at night; mid 50s as our highs. Today, we are supposed to go up to 60F.

I doubt if the doctor will call me, today; but, my pressure went up, again, and so, I went ahead and took my medications. I guess the pressure goes down when I am dehydrated and when I am sufficiently hydrated, it goes back up? I just don't understand how these things work, but, I am glad I feel OK, now. :)

  7. Mmmm. That soup looks yummy. I am still eating down my big pot of turkey soup I made over the weekend. I have been eating it for my lunches this week, along with my keto bread.

I did some more painting this morning, and card-making this afternoon. I fear I will not be doing any scrap booking this week either.

    1. Thank you, Susan. I think it was your turkey soup that inspired me to make my chicken soup. :) I had a bowl of it for my lunch, today, too.

You had plenty to do with the painting and card-making. Scrapbooking can wait for next week.

  8. Light rain is great as it has time to seep into the earth, unlike a downpour which might just run off. I hope that you get the snow in the hills and that the coming summer will not have any drought.
We had a pesky wind today. I call it pesky, because every time I turned around to go back the other way, the wind changed and it was still in my face! I was very glad to get home to a warm house!

    1. The light rain was very good for my garden. But, we are bracing for stronger rains that are in the forecast for tonight and tomorrow! People in the burn areas have been asked to evacuate or be ready to evacuate, as we are expecting mud slides.

Oh, that wind really was pesky! I'm sure you were glad to come in from that wind to a nice, warm house!
