Winter Joy List - 2018

Now that my almsgiving is over and Christmas has been celebrated, I thought it would be a good time to post a Winter Joy List.  I picked 15 joyful things to do to enjoy the winter days in January and February, until Spring arrives in March.

Winter Joy List:

1. Greet the New Year with my daughter (and maybe some friends)
2. Hot chocolate - with whipped cream!
3. A warm house
4. Cozy knitted blankets and throws
5. Winter decorations
6. Homemade soup
7. Candle light in the evenings
8. Continue to enjoy the rest of daughter's holiday visit
9. After-Christmas sales!
10. The Winter Photo Scavenger Hunt
11. Reading
12. Afternoon naps
13. Relaxed days after the holiday rush
14. Afternoon walks
15. Winter gardening

I am looking forward to warm, cozy, slower paced days, once the holiday rush is over and daughter goes back.  How about you?  Is anyone else doing a Winter Joy list?

  1. Some great ideas there, Bless. I think I will clear the coffee table this evening - it is currently covered with Lily's books - and once she is in bed, I will light a scented candle.
I'm so glad you enjoyed a successful almsgiving and a lovely Christmas. We've been out for a walk this afternoon, so I'm going to relax and have a catch up with some blog reading tonight. X

  2. This is indeed a joy list, Bless. Even reading it makes me happy.
I really don't have a winter joy list. I should prepare for the new semester... that's joyful enough. :)

    1. Maybe you might consider a short winter joy list, Nil, other than preparing for the new semester, no matter how joyful that might be! :D What are some of the things you enjoy doing, that will bring you joy? Working on your quilt top, for example? Or reading?

  3. This is a great joy list! Life is so short and so many people forget to include joy!

    1. Thank you, Anne. It was reading about your monthly joy lists that inspired me to try doing them, a year or two ago!

  4. This is a really good idea, Bless. I think I will do a list. I'll try to post it later today. I'm not a big fan of winter and I think doing a Winter Joy list will help me get through it and maybe even like! I have been trying to see the beauty in winter the last couple of years and that has helped!

    1. Sharon, I hope you'll join in with a joy list of your own. I know you've been trying to see the beauty in winter, but winter in your part of the country is both long and hard, isn't it? But, think of all the fun things you get to enjoy in winter - hot chocolate, a nice fire in the fireplace (if you have one), curling up under a blanket and reading, etc. I'm looking forward to reading your list. :)

  5. Maybe because our winters are so long, I don't have to schedule anything into my Joy list. Winters are meant to stay indoors to craft. I have lots of cards to make and I really hope to make a few scrapbooks this year. I will do more needlework for sure, and maybe learn a few easy patterns from Youtube. If I have to shovel my drive, I make sure to bundle up warm and take it slowly not to over extend myself. I enjoy the snow falling and the crisp air. I usually burn scented candles in the evening while I am sitting in one place to keep a watchful eye. People give me candles because they know I use them up. Right now I am listening to wonderful classical pop music and was playing it while I puttered around putting away Christmas gifts and wrappings, etc. I am eating a warm bowl of vegetables in a creamy white cheese sauce with chunks of chicken (like eating a chicken stew)and eating up some keto Christmas cookies. Life is joyful enough that I don't have to look for it, but I AM intrigued by your winter decorations. That sounds lovely. How do YOU decorate for winter?

    1. Susan, you are where I want to be - incorporating joy into your every day! Doing joyful activities as part of your daily routines.

As for the winter decorations, the answer is I really don't know! I didn't do my usual decorating for Christmas, so I want to do something to celebrate winter, without it being Christmas. I am envisioning something with lots of white and maybe some green. Maybe a wintry scene in a glass bowl or something. :)
