Doctor's Appointment on Monday

I called the oncologist's office, this morning, to confirm my appointment and to check that the insurance was OK.  The receptionist confirmed the appointment, but seemed unaware that there had been an issue with the insurance.

My appointment was for 1:45 p.m., but I wasn't called in to see the nurse practitioner until 3:00 p.m.!  Even then, there was a slight wait until she was free to see me.  I received my first injection of the drug they are giving me for my osteoporosis; I will be receiving an injection of it every six months.  I read up on the possible side effects and I am hoping that I won't get any of them!  It was almost 4:00 p.m., when I left the clinic.  I went directly to the pharmacy to pick up another of my medications and then, stopped at the grocery store for a few items: bread ($1.25), 1/2 gal. milk ($1.99), coffee creamer ($1.77), 2 containers of orange juice ($1.77 each, for the almsgiving; there was a deal on the orange juice and coffee creamer - $1.77 each if you buy 3), a box of macaroni and cheese ($1.00), a 6-oz. container of blackberries ($.88), and a piece of beef steak ($4.84 @$4.99/lb).  I spent a total of $15.27.

Came home and had took out the trash can, recycling bin, and yard waste bin to the curb for pick up in the morning, went across the street to say, "Hi" to neighbor S, had a cup of tea, and cooked the steak for my dinner (lunch had been a granola bar, eaten at the doctor's office while waiting!)

I've been checking on my daughter, throughout the day, today.  She called me at 4:30 a.m. this morning, saying she was having an upset stomach (diarrhea and throwing up!)  We didn't know if it was a stomach virus or something she ate, although everything she ate yesterday was what she had cooked earlier in the day.  She called in sick and took the day off from work, today, and slept on and off, most of the day.  I worried about her getting dehydrated, but she sipped on lemon-lime soda all day.  Much later, in the evening, she ate some rice, she said, and managed to keep it down.  She didn't have any plain bread or bananas or applesauce!   Although she did have apples (she went grocery shopping on Saturday) and I told her how to make applesauce.  She said she might make some, tomorrow.  I've asked her to take tomorrow off from work, too, so she could rest and fully recover.

Cousin V called me later in the evening; I will go over, tomorrow afternoon, to pick up my baking dish.  I have plenty of metal baking dishes, but this is the only large glass baking dish I have and I need it to make a dump cake for the almsgiving.

Today, I am grateful for:
- Daughter has paid sick leave
- She is feeling a little better, now
- I was able to go to my doctor's appointment
- The medication I am receiving for the osteoporosis
- What I was able to accomplish today

Tuesday's To Do List:
- Bring the trash cans in
- Water the front garden (it didn't rain in my area)
- Water the indoor plants
- Visit cousin to pick up my baking pan
- Go to the Armenian store to buy garbanzo beans
- Do laundry
- Do dishes
- Finish up Christmas gifts

How was your Monday?  What are your plans for Tuesday?

  1. I understand that it's hard for doctors to keep to an exact schedule with emergencies and some patients needing more time for unforseen reasons, but I think that was too long to wait. But at least you got in. The worst is to show up and have to come back another time.

I hope you daughter is better today. She sounded miserable.

    1. I go in expecting to wait for at least 1 hour at this particular doctor's office! They are always busy!

My daughter had texted me in the morning saying she has taken today, too, off from work. I texted her back when I woke up, but, I assume she's sleeping, because she hasn't responded to my text, yet. I hope she's feeling better.

  2. I hope your daughter listens to your advice and takes today off work as well. At this time of year it is common to pick up all kinds of viruses. I can remember lots of Christmases when I was as sick as a dog because I was worn down and vulnerable to other people's germs.

This was a very long day for you and sitting in a waiting room does not help. I would be thinking of all I had to do and couldn't get accomplished. Worrying over your daughter would also make the day feel longer. But you managed to get a lot done. You're on fire this week.

    1. Yes, she listened to Mama and took the day off, today, too! :)

I anticipate long waits at my various doctors' offices, but, especially this one. I don't think I've ever been seen without an hour long wait at this clinic! I go prepared - I read, do crossword puzzles, etc., while I wait. Yesterday's waiting room had a TV, so I watched a cooking show! :)

I need to get a few more things accomplished, this week. It's going to be a busy few days!

  3. That was a bit of a wait you had for the nurse, but at least your appointment was confirmed and it is all done now.
I do hope your daughter is feeling better soon. It's no fun being ill when you have no one there to look after you. X

    1. Yes, at least the appointment took place and I got my injection. I usually go prepared for a long wait and try not to plan too many things afterwards!

Thank you, Jules. You are right, it's no fun being ill when you are by yourself. She took the day off work, today, too, and, hopefully, she'll be well, soon.

    1. I always have my prayer books in my purse, so I read that and then, I watched the TV program they had on, a cooking show. My daughter is feeling better, today, thank you.

  6. I hope your daughter is on the mend, Bless. It's not easy being sick when you are by yourself. I hope she has a friend to bring her some food.
(I know I hate cooking when I'm ill and have no energy.)

    1. Thank you, Nil, she's feeling better. No, she really doesn't have anyone there, except the people she works with. If necessary, she could call one of them. Today, she felt well enough to go to the store across the street to get some Gatorade, etc.

  7. I expect you are glad to get that appointment over with at last. It is tiring hanging around medical facilities!
I'm sorry to hear that your daughter had a nasty tummy bug. Sometimes we never find out why it happens, but I am glad she is recovering and hope she will be 100% soon.

I still haven't put the decorations on the tree. I was doing housework this morning and I just had to have a nap this afternoon and then I took a walk to the mailbox. I did hang up the Christmas cards we received, though. I guess a little bit gets done here and there. Also I did finally finish and mail our cards. It will all come together in the end!

    1. Yes, this was an appointment which was postponed a couple of times due to the insurance change. Good to have it taken care of. My daughter is feeling better, today, thank you.

I'm sure you'll get your decorations done, perhaps over the weekend. I don't have a tree up, yet, and most of my decorations are still in the boxes in the garage! This might be another year of minimal decorations!

  8. I'd have been annoyed if I'd had to wait that long for an appointment but at least you went prepared with book etc., plus the added bonus of the TV show.

Sorry to hear that your daughter is poorly but better it is out of the way before Christmas.

    1. I've got used to the long waits at my doctors' offices! I've learned not to schedule two appointments in one day! LOL.

Thank you; my daughter said she felt well enough to go to work, today. And you're right - better get it out of the way before Christmas. :)
