Winter Photo Scavenger Hunt

Eileen at A Bracelet of Days has posted a list for a winter photographic scavenger hunt, here.

I am thinking of joining in.  This will be the first time I've joined in a photographic scavenger hunt, as I don't consider myself a photographer!

The hunt started on December 1, 2018 and one has until March 31, 2019 to complete the list.  All the photos must be taken between these two dates.  She has stated that "the usual rules apply", but since this is my first time participating in one, I really don't know what those rules are, other than that the photos need to be taken between the days specified and, presumably, have to be original photos one has taken and not copies of what someone else has taken!  I am also not sure quite whether we post our photos during the scavenger hunt, or present them all at the very end.  Ha, ha, I sure don't know a lot about what I am planning to join, do I?

The list of items to be photographed are as follows:

1. At the end of the day
2. Pool of light
3. Fastener
4. Nail
5. A group activity
6. Water dispenser
7. Horse
8. Chocolate
9. Peel/peeling
10. Holly
11. Dressed for the season
12. Glitter
13. An instruction
14. A crossing place
15. Flight
16. A measurement

17. Orange
18. A natural feature
19. A carved object
20. A method of communication

There are also, two alternatives that may be substituted for one or two of the items above, in case you can't find suitable photos for all of the listed items:

Alt A. A keyring
Alt B. Show and tell - something you made

This is the first time I am participating in a photographic challenge of any sort, so I am both excited and nervous!

Have you taken part in a photographic scavenger hunt, before?  Is it something you might consider participating in?

  2. I've never participated in a photographic scavenger hunt. The list looks very interesting.
From what I understood, it seems like you can share your photos at the end of each month. :)

    1. That's what I understood, too, Nil, but I've checked on a couple of blogs and it seems they do post their photos as and when they take them. I'll see if Eileen says something about it, before I post anything, however. :)

    2. Hi Bless,

Yes, you can post your photos as and when you want. We do a link up at the end of every month so people can see what you've been up to and comment. You can post as many photos for each prompt as you want but in the final link up in March you are asked to choose your best images, one for each prompt.

As for taking the photos, as well as being taken between the stated dates, every photo must be your own. You aren't allowed to copy images from Google for example and pretend that they are your own work, which has happened in the past.

General advice is that if you get stuck on knowing what to photograph, try to think outside of the box. Orange, for example, can be the fruit, the tree, the colour. Horse can be the animal, a picture in a book, a shot of a horse on the TV, an image on a sign.

It doesn't matter what you use to take your photos or whether you consider yourself to be a 'photographer', this is a 'join in and have fun' activity and the more the merrier.

    3. Thank you, Eileen! I wasn't very sure what the rules were and didn't want to start off on the wrong foot, so to speak!

  3. I haven't taken part in one before but I think I'm going to do that one too! Give it a go. It's fun just to go out walking and see what you can find. It gives you something to look for while out and about!

    1. Sharon, I hope you join too! You are right - it does give you something to look for! In fact, I noticed something right away and took a photo of it, but then, realized it was taken on November 30 and the rules say December 1! So, I went back on Dec. 1, and took another photograph of it! :D

  5. This is such a great idea, and no I haven't heard of one before. The list of subjects is so broad, it will bring a wide range of photos. I look forward to seeing what the participants come up with, especially you Bless. I am the kind of person who watches from the sidelines first, before trying something new. So I won't be joining in this time, but I will be an avid spectator.
